Writer strike was the biggest problem, but along with it there were other problems, like the movie was the biggest imitiator of bourne- heck, even casino Royale was a bourne/batman like origin story but was completely a bond film. Qos, was just bourne, be it action, editing, his relation with M/Pamela etc. That's the problem with qos
I loved QoS. It’s not the best Bond, but it’s a great sequel to Casino Royale, and it has one of the more true themes to date. Governments, companies, and villains alike are now fighting over water and the rights to water all over the world. This film captured what was not well known in the mainstream and talked about it.
This has the best opening scene ever imo. Honestly best bond scene, knowing where it just came from and the Mountain View ending in him popping the trunk and the song. It’s just my fav
Really? To me, Skyfall is the cleanest and sharpest looking film in the Craig series since it was shot digitally. I loved the looked of this film but it was shot on film and it has that filmic and gritty look to it.
@@LeonardoKlotz Well I can't really argue with you here since I don't know what type of display you're watching it on. But to my eyes, Skyfall has the deepest black in dark scenes and I'm watching it on my JVC projector. Of course, it may look different on your display.
As a 'Casino Royale pt 2" this film is great. On it's own it has it's issues, but there's 3 things that make it stand out. The arc with Mathis is great. The fact Bond doesn't sleep with Olga due to his loss of Vespa is good character growth. And finally the action scenes with Craig front and centre are great. Without this film we wouldn't have Skyfall and all the course correction that helped that become one of the best Bond films.
I honestly like this movie.. to me it just had the bad luck of being sandwiched between 2 of the best action films of the century in Royale and Skyfall... Sure, the editing is rough and reflects the time in which it was made, and the villain is weaker, but at worst it's a well-acted, passable action flick with a plot and lead that I found interesting.. It's good looking when the editing let's you take in the cinematography. Also probably my favorite score of the Craig era.
This movie gets a ton of crap and certainly had its production issues with the writer's strike, but it's my favorite Bond of the Craig era. Loved the action, loved Mathis, loved Mr. White, tight runtime, the rope fight, airplane chase, Tosca were tops and Craig's Bond was ferocious and bent on revenge. Really good follow up to Casino Royale.
The best thing about Quantum of Solace is the opera scene in Bregenz, Austria. It’s shot and directed beautifully. Almost like it was made by an entire different crew.
You guys should do a video review on 'The Quick and the Dead'. I just watched it for the first time in maybe 20 years and it was great. All 4 leads do an excellent job. I think it was mainly sold as a Sharon Stone vehicle, as both Crowe & Dicaprio were up and comers, but she nails it. And of course, Hackman doesn't disappoint. I will say they maybe could have cut out 10 mins to tighten it up just a bit in the first half, but the last hour hits its stride and it's a great ending.
Ok, I hear that a lot but it's strange to me, the plot in QOS is the most straightforward of the Craig era. I have no idea what the heck is going on in Skyfall or especially in the last 2 and even CR is a bit all over the place.
Its ok to have issues, John. Most of us do. Recognizing them, confronting them are hugely helpful. Wish you all the best. You're also great on the show! ❤ as always to both of you.
This was so much better than the last one (Spectre), I refuse to even acknowledge that there was one after this. Although it sounds like without the cuts this would’ve been on a par with Casino Royale
When Quantum breaks into the interrogation room and breaks out Mr. White. There’s a scene where Judi Dench reacts and a lot of viewers first thought that M got shot. But that’s not what happened. The fact that so many people interpreted that scene one way when it wasn’t intended is an illustration of just how badly edited that scene it.
Another Way to Die is my all-time favourite Bond theme song ... I played it over and over on youtube when it came out!! LOVE it!! And loved this movie too, despite the awful editing in parts!
The film's music composer David Arnold once said in an interview for The World Is Not Enough that without the James Bond theme you got an action film, not a James Bond film. Well thats the very thing right here an action film with very few Bond elements.
think this movie gets a bad rap, I find it to be an excellent action movie. Is it Casino Royale?...HELL NO! that movie is damn near perfect, but for a sequel I love it, this movie does not get enough love.
Great concepts with horrible deliveries sums up Quantum for me. Daniel Craig totally should have had his own License to Kill/Man on Fire style entry that Quantum set up but couldnt deliver. Tony Scott would have been a perfect director for it.
Admittedly CASINO ROYALE is about 10 minutes too long, but it's a banger. It's my favorite Bond movie that's why it's disappointing that the rest of Daniel Craig's tenure is poor. QUANTUM is a poor sequel. The idea is interesting but the execution is poor. Dominic Green is a dull villain and there's no big ending, Olga Kurylenko is a good actress but she is so muted here, the action work doesn't in places. For me, the biggest mistake was making this a follow-up to CASINO and then trying to make SKYFALL, SPECTRE & NO TIME TO DIE somewhat connected as a series. The series idea is a big mistake. Make them standalones. There's more freedom in the storytelling. Have to say though QUANTUM (for all its faults) stands up and is a more enjoyable watch than SKYFALL, SPECTRE & NO TIME TO DIE. When they reboot Bond they need to make sure they hire a good/proven action director and have some good escapist adventure stories for the character.
Massively agree. I'm not sure why Skyfall gets so much love. It has excellent performances but the actual plot is more like something from a comic book. And it is, because it's got elements ripped from The Dark Knight and the villain is just The Joker without the clown makeup.
Glad to see so many positive comments about this movie. I really like it, it's my favourite Craig outing by far, maybe because it feels more like a straight forward Bond, harking back to the Brosnan era. Anyways, let's hear it for this movie, it's just great.
Casino Royale was so fantastic and a fresh reboot for the series. But after that, the entire Daniel Craig era has been mediocre (outside of Skyfall). Quantum of Solace just happened to be the most boring of the Craig films. Even the opening song with Jack White and Alicia Keyes was awful. Its especially bad when you listen to the 'rejected' theme song, which actually included the word 'Quantum of Solace' in it.
I recall watching QOS at the cinema and noticing immediately how much cheaper and underpolished it was, in contrast to the terrific, surprising quality of CR just a few years prior.
I honestly didn't think this movie was that bad. There were certain issues with it but all in all it was a decent movie. It's definitely the weaker movie out of the Daniel Craig series of James Bond, but it was going to be very very difficult to top casino royale at that point because it was such a monster hit
Thank goodness I had a free movie pass with the purchase of the "Live and Let Die" DVD. Daniel Craig was good, but the film felt like the second half of "Casino Royal."
It's Barbara 🥦 not bracoli or how ever your saying it. This movie is poorly directed, it's not a strong sequel to casino Royale, the editor should never work again. The villans are as memorable as the villans in the Living Daylights. We got Skyfall because of this movie. So I guess that's a plus in its favor. 😂
One of my favorite Bond movies, and I'm an old grognard who started watching these films when Moore was fresh, Quite why I like it I'm not sure. I agree with Forster than Casino Royale was too long, particularly the 45 minutes of playing poker, which I understand was a popular game at the time but I had no interest. I think I like Quantum because it's different. I compare it to License to Kill, a better movie but similar in that it's not goofy, it doesn't involve taking over the world, the gadgets are practical rather than ridiculous, and the Bond girls are not just window dressing. Quantum is fast paced, it has a non-ridiculous plot that has more than a little grain of truth to it (with Billionaire's like Gates and Bezos buying up water and renewable energy production). I think the writers strike gets a lot of blame for how this film turned out, but given what the director said I doubt it would have been all that different. I don't see what's wrong with the script anyway.
Totally agree. People keep going on about the difficult plot but I find it really straight forward and I love the fast pace. The other Craig bonds are total snooze fests to me.
I particularly liked Olga Kurylenko in this movie. I prefer take charge female characters. I liked this movie despite the criticisms, and I liked Daniel Craig as Bond.
Indeed. That explains why the movie is so incoherent and without tension (for example, the..."villains"). On the other hand, the videogame is quite good; the gameplay is OK (though not groundbreaking) but most of all, the player is put in Bond's suit, both in Casino Royale and its sequel. Hours of fun!
I really wanted to like this film. I really did. I watched in theaters and then on a loaned DVD. It did nothing for me, just a jumble of stuff I couldn't get excited for.

One of the major issues I have with this movie is I cannot justify picking it out at random when I want my fix of Bond action. It can’t really be watched without first watching Casino Royale for a little context. Most Bond movies can be watched at random as they are only loosely part of a continuing narrative. On the plus side, the cinematography gives the movie a vibrant and classy feel - unlike the urine-soaked sepia tone of Spectre - the climactic scene in the burning desert hotel is pretty spectacular, the fact that a lot of the stunts were done practically always rings true with me and I’m probably one of the few people who actually quite like the White/Keys theme song.

I appreciate this video's content, but could you do a read through before you record so the narrator doesn't sound like he doesn't know the subject he's discussing? It's pronounced Em-Eye Six, not Em Sixteen. And Co-producer's last name is pronounced BRAH-cuh-lee, not broh-KO-lee.

I liked it
I don’t care what anyone says. I love this movie. I agree with the director about Casino. I’m in the minority opinion.
The Craig "Bonds" lacks humor big time.
