Great Bond movie - maybe slightly on the long side but definitely in my Top 6 007 movies. This one is the reason why Daniel Craig is my 2nd favourite Bond.
Awesome video! I'm always happy to see anything Jame Bond, and this 2nd look is superb. The intro theme to Skyfall is easily in my top 3 across all the Bond films. Also this Bond film lends to my "head cannon" theory that James Bond is a code name for 007 specifically with the Skyfall estate being an indoctrination facility. Lol. I enjoy it anyway. Thanks again. This was a delight.
Must admit, Sean Connery turning up would have bumped me out the film. Bit like Branson appearing in CR. Well, lot worse actually. Loved seeing Albert Finney. What a coo.
I remember being dissappointed that the middle part was such a ripoff of the Dark Knight. The MI6 explosion and Silva's plan relying on being caught and having a captive interview
Yes it was very jarring, almost as if they had some sensible Casino Royale-style story and the studio came along and said "Dark Knight is good. Do that." That is why Silva is an odd villain, who seems quite grounded and sympathetic most of the time, but seems to go full Joker-crazy in the middle.
@Meta Man I dunno man. To me it seems like someone tried to capture the magic of Casino Royale and Dark Knight in the same film and failed. Rather than being the thinking man's Bond film, it only works if you don't think about the plot contrivances.
OMFG! Kincaid had to be played by Sean Connery! What were the producers thinking?! Even to this day, I'm pissed off that he didn't get the role. Surely he would have come out of retirement for it!
8:10 I thought Emma was her actual name. At least there was an Emma Pill on the stone wall of deceased agents in the old MI6 building in Specter. I could be wrong
I know you mention this, but the home alone theme in the end and the random master plan bogs this down for me. The final act is laughable because of that home alone stuff. Great direction and cinemetography but there were a lot of luls in this one. Canino Royal is much better in my opinion.
The ending where Bond takes M to the most unsecure location you can imagine doesn't feel very smart. Couldn't understand that rationale. C'mon, you're part of a top spy agency. You must have a more secure location. Bond goes Home Alone 🙀
I must truly be an outlier. I disliked this movie so much that I've not watched Spectre and have no interest in the next one. Spoiler: Bond gets M killed through his Home Alone antics. Maybe I'll revisit the movie someday. Perhaps it's better than I remember. But, other than Casino Royale, I don't hold the Craig era in high regard.
That title falls flat on its face in the 2nd act when Silva can foresee everything that everyone in London is doing. Exactly when M’s going to be ina certain room, when James is going to be where in the chance after him (Silva) etc. That completely destroys the film for me.
This is a great looking bond, like a 2hr Luxury watch ad - but ultimately bond and M make the dumbest choices in this movie. The bad guy plot makes zero sense. Movie starts with M saying take the shot - her best agent just chased this dude down in heroic fashion and is in a hand to hand fight with him on a train going into a tunnel - she tells a Junior agent to take a shot from a few hundred yards away lol. Why in the world wouldn’t she bet on bond? I guess once that train goes into the tunnel there’s not telling where it’ll end up - oh wait. It’s a train in a tunnel. That’s just the beginning of stupidity in this film. Craig is a fantastic bond and the movie looks beautiful but the story is far dumber than it thinks it is.
M ordering Monepenny to shot was so stupid, ´cause Bond had proven again and again that he was able to take down the bad guys. So why suddenly this distrust in Bonds abilitys? Really lazy writing. Because the plot demanded Bond to get shot, M had to order it, despite knowing from experience her best agent would manage to win in the end. But why building up an interesting but complex character driven plot, when you can just focus on a simple story driven plot, where characters constantly act out of character, just because the story has to move from a to b, using the figures as mere plot devices, with zero consideration towards their motives and beliefs.
That was a great segue at the end for the next video. You're the most professional one on this channel, for sure. The writing and delivery is top notch. I agree on Casino Royale being better, to me a lot better. This movie was pretty entertaining and well done, the cast was amazing and the M-bond girl story quite interesting and different. That being said, not only too many Home Alone vibes (in fact that's not a problem), but too many Dark Knight vibes. Not only it looked like it, they copied scenes (the scenes with Silva locked down were ripped off straight from the Joker scenes in jail). Adele's song is for the ages, almost on par with the best Shirley Bassey's themes, IMO, especially in contrast to the horrible dud from the next movie (movie, theme song, everything).
The point is the third movie of Brosnan and Craig the villain want some kind a revenge over M. Elektra King cos the kidnap and Silva about being desfigurated.
We're James Bond to truly live the way he does, he would have to averaged 1.5 million dollars in salary. That's a pretty good trick for a guy on Secret Service pay.

I don't have too much to say about Skyfall. it wasn't one of my favourite Bond movies. It was my least favourite of the Daniel Craig era. Like Quantum of Solace, it was good, but again not great. Daniel Craig was again good as 007. Berenice Marlohe was very beautiful. Javier Bardem is the most unattractive Bond villain ever. It was sad that Skyfall was Judi Dench's last appearance as M after 17 years. Skyfall had some thrilling and exciting action sequences and stunts. Skyfall was slow in places and it didn't have much action. I consider Skyfall to be pre Star Trek: Into Darkness as both movies had similar plots. Some of the writing was good. I thought it was very clever how they revealed Naomie Harris's character Eve as Moneypenny. M's death was one of the saddest scenes in the franchise's scene. The theme song "Skyfall" by Adele is a good theme song and the theme song goes back to the more classic and sultry Bond themes. Like Quantum of Solace, Skyfall was again a Bond film that was good, but not great. It's not a terrible Bond movie.
I think Skyfall is a great film, the only thing I didn't like about it was the finale. I think that should've happened somewhere earlier in the film. I still think Casino Royal is the better film!
Was a Bond fan all my life this isn't a James Bond film its terrible I can't even rewatch it it's that bad also the soundtrack makes my ears bleed. I'm English and 44 years old
the absolute BEST part of Skyfall was they finally got rid of the beancounter, aka m, yes, in lowercase. i adore Dame Dench in everything else, but she was the worst part of every Bond film she was in, including Dr. Christmas Jones.
Nah this is where it all started to fall apart for me. The plot is ridiculous with far too many eye-roll moments and by far the biggest problem is Bond pretty much completely fails in his mission.
So ok, the character finally got over the death of Vespa and moved on. But with what did they come up next ? Q was transformed into a nerd kid, the women are (yet again) too masculine, there's another lame punchless theme song, and then the attempts to make it a somewhat of a tearjerker with the so called 'mother-son' complex... I fail to see the Bond "vibe" in these movies, except for the name of the main character. The main 'baddie in the movie' is one of the best you said ? Maybe it's time to take another look at Grant, Goldfinger, Blofeld (D Pleasence) and even Scaramanga again :) But hey... there was a time these movies were pure entertainment with humor and one liners that were more dry than a Vodka Martini :) But hey that's just one guy's opinion ;)
There is something wrong with your conversion. A) you forgot to adjust Skyfall to 2021 Dollars, which would mean its box office would now be the equivalent of 1.308 billion Dollars. B) I can't find the ratio you use, 141.2 million in 1965 should be 1.22 billion in 2021 Dollars. And even if you tried to get it to match 2012 Dollars (which is weird; if you adjust for inflation it's usually the current year as goal) you should end up at 1.03 billion.
Idiots complained that it was huge coincidence the hole is blown and a train magically appears on time. But! Trains passed each Underground line every few minutes, so not really.
It's really hard to pick between this one and Casino Royale. Skyfall was more of an instant wow, especially because of the A+ cinematography, but Casino Royale is just one of those movies that's not only an amazing reboot, but also just gets better the more times you watch it or think about it.
Loved them both, but for ME, Craig's _Casino Royale_ is the best Bond movie of them all. Shocking. I love the Dalton-esque ruthlessness of Craig's Bond mixed with a human idea that he is actually a person with a history, some of which you get to see in _Skyfall_
I did not like it that much. The evil plan was overly complicated and hoping for many coincidences. Getting yourself captured on purpose to then break out?
@@neo-filthyfrank1347 A rocket launcher plattform in a volcano? I can live with that :) Putting away the plot - did not like it. Maybe I try a rewatch. I remember many people liking it back in the days, though.
@@RGK93 I think it works better for the Joker's character in The Dark Night. We're always wondering how the chaos he sews always seems to work itself out so well and it fits with the mystery of the character. I think they were trying to go for a similar vibe with Silva but it doesn't work as well because he seems a bit too methodical for it to be chalked up to random chaos like it does for the Joker. Also, Batman is like the personification of virtue and order which is in direct contrast to the Joker. Silva seems to be like a weird "what if Bond were a villain" and I think it weakens that tension between the hero and villain. He's still a great villain though thanks in large part to Javier Bardem's performance.
@@neo-filthyfrank1347 but the other Bond films didn't take themselves so seriously, Skyfall is dark and gritty, like when Bond gets the girl killed because he went there on the bad guys boat, instead of tracking it and sneaking onto the island.
james reaction to the girl getting shot seems cold blooded but he was only doing it not to give Raul what he wanted. James missed on purpose shows he did not want her to die but may have not realized Raul was going to shoot next. and james immediately shoots all them down right after so you know he was pissed.
Daniel Craig's version of bond is usually cold blooded in everything he does, it what makes him calm and collected in every scenario. Just look at all the car chases and everytime he makes a kill in every one of his movies, he shows 0 emotion. Bit weird to get annoyed at one instance of bond showing himself being cold blooded lol
Lots of people complain about the home alone scenes, but the whole movie centers around whether the old ways work in the modern age. Bond is a field agent, his ability is questioned by the likes of Q and Silva who regard him as ineffective. It's not just that Bond is old by any means, but the way he operates brings more liability than effectiveness. So Bond tries to be modern, and the team tries to best Silva in technology and hacking, and they all fail. Then Bond takes the fight back to the stone age to prove that the old dogs have new tricks. I also like the attention to detail in some of the backstories, like Silva's cultural background being Portuguese makes it easier for him to blend into Macau a former Portuguese colony, and then potentially building his HK connections from there. And then him being captured after the handover of 97 is also a nice touch.
To be quite honest, the plot is ridiculous. “Let’s go to a desert place, in the middle of nowhere, to a completely exposed house, that can be attacked by a chopper and bombed in seconds.”. Looks like a cartoon plot.
I never got the hate for Quantum. The bad guys plan was kinda dumb, but it was a very enjoyable movie for me. Lotta good action. Spectre is the one I dislike.
The plot is one of the silliest in the franchise... all the crazy over complicated complots from Raoul Silva to kill M when he could have her killed multiple times in a less fancy way. Casino Royale is far better
"Is Spectre as bad as you remember it?" That's the problem, its so boring that i barely remember it. And as far as Skyfall goes, its really good movie, Casino Royale is better Bond movie in my opinion.
Spectre was an absolute fiasco of a Bond movie... Cristoph Waltz was completely misused (or maybe actually miscast) and Bond ended the movie as a boring dad/husband-like character. Easily one of the worst Bond's of all time... From the highs to the lows indeed.
I'll be honest I really don't like it, it's too serious and Bond comes off as depressed. I don't want later Roger Moore/Peirce Brosnan silliness, but the lack of charm, adventure and heroism is sorely lacking in the modern films.
It would have been the greatest cameo ever if Sean connery had chosen the play the grounds keeper at sky fall. The audience would have erupted when he came on screen!
@@chrithwaddle The Daniel Craig era is a completely separate universe to the Connery-Brosnan universe. So in this universe Connery was never bond and it always has been Craig.

I might lose you there but that's why Quantum is my favourite Craig movie. They didn't have time to do an edgy script so they just went for bond by the numbers and it works so much better, and way more entertaining.
I don't even particularly like Bond movies and yet I have watched every video on this channel on James Bond revisited and am always eagerly awaiting for new one.
I really didn't like this movie. I felt like it was a James Bond rip off of The Dark Knight and Silva was made to be the Joker. I liked Patrice as a bad ass villan. The ending just dragged on and I never liked Judy Dench in the Daniel Craig Bond films, they also made Bond appear more of a villan than a hero in the Connery and Moore films.
I never made that Albert Finney Sean Connery connection; had Connery made a cameo appearance this would have easily been the greatest Bond film of all time and may have even won best picture Oscar.
I will never understand what people see in this movie. If the absolutely idiotic main plot of "bad guy lets himself be captured to then escape and do something he could have done much easier without getting captured first" wasn't enough there is also the home alone remake at the end, the weak main threat, an idiotic Q, no bond girl etc.
I disagree with almost everything here. The villain got caught so he could see m before the court to see if he had any remorse. The home alone remake is good for a personal story, the main threat kills a lot of people and m so he’s not weak and the lack of Bond girl makes it unique.
What a coo.
Awesome vid - as always! But a heads up (as a Brit here) - Finney isn’t playing a Scottish person in the movie, it’s an English accent 👍🏽
I remember being dissappointed that the middle part was such a ripoff of the Dark Knight. The MI6 explosion and Silva's plan relying on being caught and having a captive interview
Agreed
Yes it was very jarring, almost as if they had some sensible Casino Royale-style story and the studio came along and said "Dark Knight is good. Do that." That is why Silva is an odd villain, who seems quite grounded and sympathetic most of the time, but seems to go full Joker-crazy in the middle.
I mean, him in the cage...come on.
That was the end of the film, was'nt it
@Meta Man I dunno man. To me it seems like someone tried to capture the magic of Casino Royale and Dark Knight in the same film and failed. Rather than being the thinking man's Bond film, it only works if you don't think about the plot contrivances.
Home alone revisited
OMFG! Kincaid had to be played by Sean Connery! What were the producers thinking?! Even to this day, I'm pissed off that he didn't get the role. Surely he would have come out of retirement for it!
Loved this movie. The villain plan is a little over the top, not quite at Lex's Batman vs Superman level though, it was still fun.
Skyfall is the only Bond movie I've seen more than once at the cinema.
8:10 I thought Emma was her actual name. At least there was an Emma Pill on the stone wall of deceased agents in the old MI6 building in Specter. I could be wrong
"Moneypunny"? Thought I heard that a couple times. LOL
Have enjoyed these vids, love the bond films. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Spectre
I know you mention this, but the home alone theme in the end and the random master plan bogs this down for me. The final act is laughable because of that home alone stuff. Great direction and cinemetography but there were a lot of luls in this one. Canino Royal is much better in my opinion.
ya and it didn't even work, at least in Home Alone the kid won, all Bond did was get M killed.
I was a bit surprised you talked about Oscar nominations in other James Bond films, but this one won 3 Oscars.
I’ve been waiting for this
The ending where Bond takes M to the most unsecure location you can imagine doesn't feel very smart. Couldn't understand that rationale. C'mon, you're part of a top spy agency. You must have a more secure location. Bond goes Home Alone 🙀
The second best Craig-era Bond movie!
My personal favourite James Bond movie
I must truly be an outlier. I disliked this movie so much that I've not watched Spectre and have no interest in the next one. Spoiler: Bond gets M killed through his Home Alone antics. Maybe I'll revisit the movie someday. Perhaps it's better than I remember. But, other than Casino Royale, I don't hold the Craig era in high regard.
No you're not. The Sam Mendes movies are terrible. I'm hoping they finish off on a high note with the next one.
01:06 Miss Moneypunny?
That title falls flat on its face in the 2nd act when Silva can foresee everything that everyone in London is doing. Exactly when M’s going to be ina certain room, when James is going to be where in the chance after him (Silva) etc. That completely destroys the film for me.
This is actually my least favorite of the craig films, I found it very generic and overrated.
You and I pretty much agree on most Bond Films!!!
Glad to hear it!
Agree. Plot was convoluted, unbelievable. Great talent wasted. Found it very disappointing. Wasn't any better the second time.
But why building up an interesting but complex character driven plot, when you can just focus on a simple story driven plot, where characters constantly act out of character, just because the story has to move from a to b, using the figures as mere plot devices, with zero consideration towards their motives and beliefs.
yes! and Bond later told MoneyPenny that he heard M say "take the shot" so why didn't he duck??
Skyfall is a masterpiece. That’s all.
@5:10 Money Punney?
The point is the third movie of Brosnan and Craig the villain want some kind a revenge over M. Elektra King cos the kidnap and Silva about being desfigurated.
Great video but why can't you day penny correctly? Heheheh
We're James Bond to truly live the way he does, he would have to averaged 1.5 million dollars in salary. That's a pretty good trick for a guy on Secret Service pay.
00 Agents have an unlimited expense account whilst on assignment.
@@CaptainCritical no they don't! Wake up! You have to be living like Elton John every year to be living that way! The Queen Is Not sponsoring that s***!
@@CaptainCritical thank you for proving my point by the way of how ridiculous James Bond truly is. So government agents roll around with a 1.5 million dollar salaries a year? Just so they can keep up appearances huh? Keep telling yourself that cupcake.
@@sethkaicer319 It's not a salary you moron. It's an expense account. And it's stated explicitly on the novels. Hardly surprising that your ignorant of this, I doubt you've ever read a book in your life.

Skyfall is the Empire Strikes Back of the Bond franchise.
WTF
More like The last fucking Jedi. Horrible movie.
Ok. Juggernaut. Gotcha.
Was Skyfall the first song to win am Oscar from a Bond Film?
1. Casino Royale
2. Skyfall
3. Spectre
4. Quantum of Solace
Dame Judy Dench is the mother of all Bond girls.
Best James Bond film with Daniel Craig. Not really into the Daniel Craig JB era though.
This movie is pure shit, with Home Alone ending. Why people like it I do not understand
Skyfall and spectre are both still good in my opinion.
And when one hunts big and dangerous game, one need a proper rifle that will do whats needed .
Good catch on Wishaw 😜
I think Skyfall is a great film, the only thing I didn't like about it was the finale. I think that should've happened somewhere earlier in the film. I still think Casino Royal is the better film!
I agree Casino is still a superior film, but Skyfall is still in my top 5 for sure.
Games keeper; stacks Monopoly, Jenga, and croquet sets.
Gamekeeper; manages the estates' wildlife.
ugh! ;-)
One of my favorite movies of all time
Everything about this movie is perfection
There is something wrong with your conversion.
A) you forgot to adjust Skyfall to 2021 Dollars, which would mean its box office would now be the equivalent of 1.308 billion Dollars.
B) I can't find the ratio you use, 141.2 million in 1965 should be 1.22 billion in 2021 Dollars. And even if you tried to get it to match 2012 Dollars (which is weird; if you adjust for inflation it's usually the current year as goal) you should end up at 1.03 billion.
I worked on this film at Charing Cross Underground station in London. It felt special at the time. It's still great.
Idiots complained that it was huge coincidence the hole is blown and a train magically appears on time. But! Trains passed each Underground line every few minutes, so not really.
I love these “Bond Revisited” video essays you do. Thank you for putting these together, they’re awesome!
It's really hard to pick between this one and Casino Royale. Skyfall was more of an instant wow, especially because of the A+ cinematography, but Casino Royale is just one of those movies that's not only an amazing reboot, but also just gets better the more times you watch it or think about it.
Can confirm
Loved them both, but for ME, Craig's _Casino Royale_ is the best Bond movie of them all. Shocking. I love the Dalton-esque ruthlessness of Craig's Bond mixed with a human idea that he is actually a person with a history, some of which you get to see in _Skyfall_
I did not like it that much.
The evil plan was overly complicated and hoping for many coincidences. Getting yourself captured on purpose to then break out?
Almost all other Bond films are even worse in terms of realism
The Joker does it and no one bats an eye, Silva does it and everyone loses their minds!
@@neo-filthyfrank1347 A rocket launcher plattform in a volcano? I can live with that :)
Putting away the plot - did not like it.
"A gun and a radio. Not exactly Christmas, is it?"
"were you expecting an exploding pen? we're not really into that kind of thing anymore"
@@jarrodkapernick3401 you beat me to it lol
A golden gun
A set-up for one of the best lines in the series: "The latest thing from Q Branch. It's called a radio."
james reaction to the girl getting shot seems cold blooded but he was only doing it not to give Raul what he wanted. James missed on purpose shows he did not want her to die but may have not realized Raul was going to shoot next. and james immediately shoots all them down right after so you know he was pissed.
Yup. Even the subway bomb and the improvised one liner IMO was Silva "one upping" bond and the train crash was pure fluke.
I don't understand people who like this movie. It's so drab and slow and boring. MEH.
It looks good.. That's all people care about
Lots of people complain about the home alone scenes, but the whole movie centers around whether the old ways work in the modern age.
I also noticed the old vs new them in the movie. 👍
I genuinely don't understand why Skyfall gets such high praise. I find the film drags throughout its entire runtime and is very boring.
100% agree. Another pretty terrible Craig-era Bond movie. Only "Casino Royale" had something going for it. Everything since has been awful.
To be quite honest, the plot is ridiculous. “Let’s go to a desert place, in the middle of nowhere, to a completely exposed house, that can be attacked by a chopper and bombed in seconds.”. Looks like a cartoon plot.
Should have had a Harry and Marv cameo
yes! he didn't even know the guns would be there. no backup plan or re-reinforcements to call in.. and it didn't even work because M was killed.
I love these James bond reviews. I actually went back and watch quantum of solace and it wasn't as bad as I remember. Love this narrator too.
I never got the hate for Quantum. The bad guys plan was kinda dumb, but it was a very enjoyable movie for me. Lotta good action. Spectre is the one I dislike.
@@tmclaug90 I was so excited for spectra and after the parade in Mexico city or whatever I knew the movie was not gonna be what I thought.
@@mitchconner1132 yea, that was a really fun scene, but the trailer made the movie seem like it was going to be better than it turned out to be.
The plot is one of the silliest in the franchise... all the crazy over complicated complots from Raoul Silva to kill M when he could have her killed multiple times in a less fancy way. Casino Royale is far better
I'm in the minority but this is actually one of my LEAST favorite Bond films.
I'll die with you on that hill. Although Spectre is even worse!
Same here
I'm with ya. I want gadgets and sexy ladies!
And a better story I suppose haha
I'll go a step further and suggest that CR is the only good Craig Bond film.
Spectre is an even longer, reheated Skyfall without much to differentiate itself. Ahem, without much of positive note.
Many assumed spectre was Craig's last. That's how forgettable it was.
But NTTD will connect the dots in spectre and make it a better movie I guess
Spectre is a pile of shit. Its worse than i remember it
@@jonbojsenkvrndrup8180 Daniel Craig looks miserable through the whole film
I'll be honest I really don't like it, it's too serious and Bond comes off as depressed. I don't want later Roger Moore/Peirce Brosnan silliness, but the lack of charm, adventure and heroism is sorely lacking in the modern films.
Skyfall is my favorite Bond movie. It's more consistent than Casino Royale (gets confusing in the final act)
It would have been the greatest cameo ever if Sean connery had chosen the play the grounds keeper at sky fall.
The audience would have erupted when he came on screen!
Just a question, how would you make that work cannon wise?
@@chrithwaddle The Daniel Craig era is a completely separate universe to the Connery-Brosnan universe. So in this universe Connery was never bond and it always has been Craig.
@@pianoif Yes, it's a reboot, there wasn't a official Casino Royale until 2006.
Another Example are Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, they appeared in Avengers Age of Ultron but were originally from X-Men Universe and Magneto's Kids and in the Movies Days of Future Past and Apocalypse there was another Quicksilver because Disney/Marvel and Fox still were independent.

Waiting for the next one JoBlo...it's an awesome work that you are doing on these James Bond revisited.
Thanks so much!
Mi favorite "new" Bond movie, I absolutely love everything about it, part of the reason why Spectre disappointed me so much.
This is the one I've been waiting for. My favorite 007 film by a mile.
Bond let himself get captured too, by going on the boat..
I disagree with almost everything here. The villain got caught so he could see m before the court to see if he had any remorse. The home alone remake is good for a personal story, the main threat kills a lot of people and m so he’s not weak and the lack of Bond girl makes it unique. The only one I agree with you on is that q is a idiot
I thought Q (played by John Wishshaw) was an obnoxious jerk compared to the legend Desmond Lylewelyn.
Great Photography, but man, that Script was dumb as Hell. Everything after Bardem's Escape was just laughable. They made M look so dump and unlikeable
