  • Kev is joined by The Lutonian journalist James Cunliffe and they have a very special guest with them for the January Deep Dive as Luton Town chairman David Wilkinson comes in for a chat.
    The podcast begins by looking back on the season so far with the high points discussed as well as the chances of avoiding the drop and how a significant transfer deal was actually done.
    It is January, so inevitably the attention turns to the transfer window and whether we might see anyone coming or going before we discuss the club's financial accounts, which were released.
    The lads then chat to Wilko about the ongoing improvements both on and off the pitch including safe standing which is currently being installed in the Oak Road end before the discussion moves onto the latest surrounding the Hatters' new stadium plans at Power Court.
    There is then a lengthy chat about finances in football and the state of the game as a whole before we cover topics such as the wonderful medical team that saved captain Tom Lockyer when he had a cardiac arrest, the club's fantastic work in the community and the academy.
    All this and a lot more on the longest running Luton Town podcast!

    The Luton Town Supporters' Trust celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2023 year having been created, and initially named Trust in Luton, in 2003 to help force out unpopular former owner John Gurney.
    Current club chief executive Gary Sweet was part of the group that effectively forced the club into administration and out of Mr Gurney's control, for a new consortium to take over, headed up by Bill Tomlins.
    Another change of ownership again brought problems and administration followed again in 2007, until the club was eventually bought out by the fan-led 2020 consortium, headed up by Sweet, which has now helped steer the history-making Hatters from the non-league to the Premier League.
    The Supporters' Trust is a democratic, non-profit organisation run by fans for fans. The purpose of a Trust is to help fans to join together and strengthen their influence over the way Luton Town Football Club is run, and to improve the links between their club and the community it serves.
    In a way, we’re like a union, believing that many voices are stronger than one and that the best way to influence the club is to represent many fans, not just ourselves.
    We have defended the Club in the tough times and maintain a shareholding in the Club to ensure we are able to protect and celebrate the future. We act as custodian of the image rights of the Club - to protect the Club name, kit colours, Club crest and mascot for the long-term interests of the Club.
    And like our Club, we have integrity. We believe in fair play and are committed to represent the fans and influence the regulation and its enforcement of football. And to collaborate with other Trusts to share our ideas, learn from best practice and presented a stronger voice to the authorities.
    Join the Trust for as little as £10 a year (adults) and £5 for children and seniors.
    We offer exclusive benefits, podcasts and meet the manager and players events and are committed to continually improving the experience of the Hatters’ fans, bringing the team closer to the fans and bringing the supporters’ voice into the boardroom, validating proposed activities and decisions that impact the fans.
    We encourage the you to get involved, to enjoy the thrill (the ups and the downs!) of supporting Luton Town, and we raise money for both the fans and the community/charity, along with the Club, to help with immediate needs as we have seen during the recent COVID crisis, and to build a better future through significant capital projects.

    Wow this Podcast was absolutely fantastic. Please bring on more guests from within the club. We are in such good hands, can you imagine the fans of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, UTD etc being treated to a conversation like this? We at Luton are a real community run football club and not a corporate business. Luton Away fans are embarrassing PL football fans by turning up and showing them what a football fan is and how to create an atmosphere. 3,000 Luton away fans is equivalent to 50,000 PL home fans. See you all at Goodison Park COYH!!!!!

    Great show again... everything is just looking perfect.... still improving is what any fans wants to hear...we can go on to become a established premier League team... reminds me of the 80 s team when we showed how good our then unknown players were at the time..now they trip of the tongue with ease and not just Luton fans....it's happening again and if we can match those YRS then my god what a decade we've got Infront...now if you can stay in the top league the financial rewards after a while coupled with the correct owners, management ect can keep you in the premier League for many decades if not forever... we've got this stability and keeping it looks achievable...

    Does the safe standing increase in capacity in the away section (Oak Road) allow the bobbers to become fully home fans only?

    • @lutontownsupporterstrust

      It will increase capacity but there's been no confirmation about the Bobbers. One to keep an eye on.

    Come on guys, have you forgotten how good Ricky Hill was and for how long! Should of had far more England caps, still easily the best player I’ve seen play for Luton, imagine how good he’d be in this footballing era.

    • @lutontownsupporterstrust
      @lutontownsupporterstrust  5 месяцев назад

      We're too young to remember Ricky in his prime, but that's why we asked Wilko because he's been watching Town for 60+ years

    • @paulfairbairn7342
      @paulfairbairn7342 5 месяцев назад

      @@lutontownsupporterstrust I guess it's opinions, eh! I think that you can compare them a little bit, albeit not the era though, particularly where Rob has got Ross playing in that slightly deeper role, very clever of Rob there. I believe Ricky was a bit ahead of his time TBH, you have to remember that 'England' midfielders back then were either 'box to box' or safe 'side to side' or thugs! Ricky could do all the physical stuff but he was very technical for his time and thus, I believe, the lack of England caps. Safety first England in those days! Thank goodness it's changed!!!!
      Still, I might be swayed when Ross is kissing the FA Cup, celebrating mid table safety and leading the European charge, you never know, it is Luton!! I don't know why, I've just got that 1988 feeling for some reason!
