When I was 14 my 12 year old brother a Chelsea fan who was terminally ill with cancer had a wonderful trip to a Chelsea v City game. Chelsea got trounced 3-0 an Aguero hat-trick. After the game we met the players in the tunnel. John was expectional, took great time to talk with my father and brother taking pictures. My brother died 6 weeks later, four days afterwards my family received a hand written letter from John Terry and Chelsea about the experience of meeting my brother and how it impacted him. It was a class act and a superb touch. Myself and my family will always remember John Terry for this and hugely respect him as a man.

Do you remember when Sky has a show called “The Debate”? Simple concept, Dave Jones as presenter and then two football/football adjacent people on, discussing and, you guessed it, debating current talking points of the game. I remember Jordan being on it, before I really knew who he was, and he was fantastic on it. I may not always agree with him, but he doesn’t just throw out silly opinions without any thought going into them and can always back them up. Not sure why they got rid of that show as it was great, but regardless, since Jordan has turned up on TalkSPORT his three hours a day is some of the best sports discussion available.

Dean Smith is no fool and Terry was humble and grateful to be at Villa Park getting some serious experience. Sadly I think the Gerrard, Rooney & Lampard effect has made chairman wary of hiring Terry. They're missing out on a great man who would give everything for the club. Given the right opportunity he'll grab it with both hands and run with it. Good luck, John, you have my respect.

His presence his composure, his measured patience and confidence all very impressive and shows why he was the best CB and Captain in the premier league. His partnership with Carvalho was also the very best partnership in Europe two world class complimentary defenders who created history that still to this day and maybe never will beaten.

Fair play for touching on the anton ferdinand situation something I actually forgot about. And I suppose fair play from JT from not shying away from the question..
As a person of colour who played football all over the UK for 30 years but more primarily the north east of England I've been in situations and had to deal with off the cuff words in the heat of the moment. Only twice has my colour ever been Brought Into it factually and the situation was dealt with on the pitch and after as men right or wrongly we shook hands and my thoughts there after were mine.. The older I get the more I just think well there's obviously something missing in that person's life where they feel they need to talk to another human in that way

    • @norfolkronin6307

Chelsea has come along way. As well as British football and a couple of other clubs i can think of. As I think if people of colour knew what Chelsea have been like in their past? They would put a little more thought behind supporting such a club. It's great we've come out of the dark days of the seventies into the eighties. Glad your own personal experiences were down to a minimum. I was a big Justin Fashinu fan as a kid. He put me on the tele every Saturday night for 30 odd years, bless him. And it was an awful embarrassing horror show at times the Neanderthal stuff you'd witness back then. And what players of colour had to put up with, on and off the pitch. Takecare

Ironically his insight into the England setup was the most I got from this.
