  • He is the Special One, and over the course of this hour-long exclusive interview on the Obi One Podcast, José Mourinho reminds us why. ✨
Hear from the Portuguese as he explains why he’d probably be in JAIL today if he managed like he did at Chelsea, what ACTUALLY happened with Kevin de Bruyne and Mohamed Salah and the player that gave him more grey hairs than any other.
Mourinho also opens up on why beating Liverpool at Anfield in 2014 was so special, identifies the man he REALLY wanted to work under at Manchester United and gives his verdict on Arsenal’s title chances. 👀

When I was 12, I went to watch Chelsea reserves at Aldershot and Mourinho was in the directors box. He signed my programme and I thanked him for beating Man Utd at Old Trafford the week before 3-1 which made him beam a big smile. He asked me who my favourite player was and really made me feel special. It was only a 1 minute interaction but I’ll never forget it. In the last 10 years since Ferguson's retirement, Mourinho had to be the best that United had hired. He was working with players he never wanted, he was working with players who are always against him from training to matches, he was working with people who don't like his style, he was working with a lot of restrictions from the top and still came in top 2 and even won a European tournament.

He wasn’t underrated. He didn’t maximize his talent. Sure he got money and some trophies but he mostly a squad player, didn’t leave a mark in the game. I wished for his own sake he took a risk like KDB and Salah did. Because those two will go down in history as some of the very best to do it, while Mikel is busy talking about getting approval of Lampard and JT. Did Argen Robben need those men approval? Did Eden Hazard need it? No, because they were world class ballers.

Mikel was like a final whistle come early for Josè. There were so many matches when opponents would be 1 or 2 goals down, and Jose would bring Mikel on, around the hour mark and everyone around the ground including the fans and the opponents were like, ok so this game is done, no goal will happen anymore, neither for Jose nor the opponents. It's over. You don't get the home record he had without players like that who could kill games like that.

Man U's record of appreciation and treatment of great players and coaches, is absolutely disgusting. Jose is not the only one, there are uncountable players that left due to this.
Any genuine fan of football and even non-fans of Man U, can clearly see this repeated pattern of absolute disgusting and unfair treatment, instigated largely by the Press and also from the lousy management structure.
When these great players leave, they flourish elsewhere and get the admiration and thanks which they deserve. Man U languishing in no man's land now is what it deserves to be. Period.

This was the BEST episode! So special and as always great hosting by Chris and Mikel to make everything so relaxed. Each question was well thought out, from the Salah De Bruyne departure to his own time in the beginning etc. Always good to hear these stories but there’s a reason why he agreed to do his first pod, because of the mutual respect and I am so glad for this. Cant wait for the zoom call for all the boys as Jose said. 😉

The Jose charisma is undeniable: i wish this conversation went on for so much longer. His press conferences were always blockbuster and man, i wish nothing but the best for him. I appreciate his time at United, and there is no doubt he is one of the outstanding characters of the game. Also, I remember mikel’s transfer being announced on the United website, only to find out a couple of days later that he actually signed for Chelsea. Brilliant show, so thanks, maybe this in some way makes up for the disappointment I felt when you didn’t end up signing for my club.

Wow! Initially, I thought to myself: More than an hour of podcast for me is too much, I can't finish it. But here I am now not wanting the podcast to end. Listening to Mourinho is just so refreshing. His mixture of honesty, wit and humility at the same time is on another level. He knows how to tell stories. Hope he writes a book someday. I'd love to read it.
On a different note, I'm not very good at making predictions. But I think Mourinho's next job is at Newcastle FC, England. I'd throw away my affiliations with Chelsea and support Newcastle because of him. He's truly the special one.
Finally, as for the the ObiOne podcast, please never stop doing what you're doing. We haven't had it this good in a long while. The studio is amazing. A proper podcast at last and John Obi Mikel couldn't have picked a better co-host who is so good at what he does. Thank you so much for this.

Mourinho is the greatest coach of all time. people put pep up against him but i think mourinho just edges it a little bit. winnin the ucl with barcelona and city is nothing compared to winning the ucl with porto and inter milan. to also go into the premiere league when arsene wenger and sir alex were dominating and to win back to back titles is insane. Pep cannot be considered the greatest of all time because if put in Jose's shoes he would not accomplish even 15% of what this man did. and this is coming from a liverpool fan. mourinho is hands down the greatest manager we have seen in the last 20 years

@@benjaminwillamspeter1919 i agree there. the head to head battles especially when jose joined madrid were brutal for madrid and jose. pep dominiated. and even though he won laliga in 2012, it took a monumental effort to knock pep of his perch. i think the later years made me realize that pep doesnt challenge himself. he went to bayern who were an already successful team and he did next to nothing there. with City he had a blank check. to me... yes his great but he was never put in "horrible" conditions to coach a club

I know that Jose will get another very good project after Roma because he is addicted to the game and good owners of ambitious projects will always value his experience!
As a Manchester United fan,it is so sad that some ignorant fans are finally realising that the player power virus in our club that Mourinho wanted to eradicate was allowed to thrive and now fans have finally smelt the coffee!
Pogba and Martial never went ahead to achieve anything and we can see how their careers have faltered because of their entourage, agents and owners who back these people over managers at the club!
Those players were the genesis of the culture problems at the club and now fans will not let players destroy another young manager at our club!
Jose Mourinho is sounding everyday like a prophet and we are seeing it unfold before our eyes!
Thank you Jose for opening the eyes of Manchester United to the problems at the club!
Love long and prosper "Special one"!
