Eric Bandholz Merry Christmas Eric I see you shaved just as I am starting my third Beard journey Two months in and I'm surprised at how fast the beard is coming back. I know you will soon have your beard again. Have a great Christmas and a fantastic new year
Rock What You Got! It is fun to pursue what is best for your beard and terminal length is for sure an interesting topic. I do not know what my terminal length is, but hoping to push it to find out. I have my beard the longest I have ever had it right now.
Hello Bearbrand Alliance. I am just about 30 days into growing out my beard for the time in 20 years. Your videos have been great and definitely has given me the push to stop and just let it grow. I'm looking forward to seeing what I've got after about 4-5 months.
As I write this, it seems a dumb question, but is it the length of the hair or age of the hair that makes it go terminal? In other words, If I keep my beard trimmed at 10 inches, instead of 12 to14, when it started shedding, will that keep it from becoming terminal? My gut says no.
Merry Christmas back to you all. This was fascinating to learn. Month 2 for me, learning undergrowth is so important and finding both oil and balm essential to both a better growth and more comfortable.
Merry Christmas. I’m 52 and 1.5 yrs into my 1st beard. I would say I’m not at terminal yet but I have had monthly trims along the way to keep things dense. I found the best thing to increase density was at 1 year I stopped trimming my neck at the Adam’s apple and let the neck hair grow which has caused my beard to seem much denser as those hairs are all grown in now.
This is good beard advice Greg! I am in the process of letting my beard get bigger, it is kind of like yours in that it is patchy in the start but then when it gets longer plus styling and some product the patches disappear. I think when it looks like it is going through an awkward phase for more than a month you also know that it might be time to trim. I need a beard friend that will say “hey Jim, its time to trim” 😆 Hope All Bearded Men And Their Family’s Had A Great Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas! I have a question. I'm 37, growing out my beard for the first time. It's been almost 2 months, and coming in full, not patchy. When should I go in and have it shaped at the barber? 4 months?
I was disappointed with my yeard so I’m carrying on to a 2 yeard or maybe 3 yeard I’m 16 months in. Because my hair curls inwards it looks shorter. The hairs on the middle of my chin are short I have to do a comb over from the sides would you say I’m doing the right thing?
The most trouble I Have found is finding a Barber that understands beards, not close to a big city and finding someone i can trust has been a real struggle for me. 1.5 yrs into it and it looks good to me but would love some professional help. MERRY CHRISTMAS
I feel exactly the same! even someone who could talk me thru my beard length and thickness! mine isn't really long but feel it could be terminal.. but really want a good beard ha!
Hi Greg... I am a first time beard grower and 8 months in. I was ready to throw in the towel for optimal length, however I changed my mind. Like you said keep going to the terminal length and see where it ends. Thank you for your video ! Karl
Distinguishing Terminal - Optimal - Preferred is incredibly useful! Thank you! I've been managing the length of my curly beard by cupping it into shape and clipping the few straight hairs sticking out.
This is my personal battle at the moment, great subject to talk about. My side's of my beard seem to be growing faster then the rest of it. After a blow dry and fully straightened the bottom of the sides of my beard are transparent, but from the front it looks thick and full. What should I do?, wait till the rest catches up if ever,? Or should I trim the sides?. Cheers Joe.
Merry Christmas Greg and everyone at Beardbrand. Haven’t reached terminal yet, and the longest my beard has been is 6-7 inches. My optimal and preferred are the same around 8-10 months or 4-5 inches. That’s the length I like and where my beard looks it’s thickest and strongest. Lol
I’m hoping my beard will get an inch or two longer. I’m still thick and it isn’t whispy yet. Although my beard is very curly and I comb it out. So I’m looking in the first few months of next year to see if I need to cut it back.
I'm not really certain how this would pertain to me since I have had my beard for over 14 years however about every 4 months I trim it back at least 4 or 5" that way I try to maintain a decent looking beard without it looking scraggly or thin if you have any beard tips for me I would greatly appreciate it thank you in advance for all of your help God-bless you sir have a wonderful day a merry Christmas and a very happy New Year.
I've been blessed with the ZZ top Beard. It doesn't stop getting longer but I do have to trim it up every 4 to 5 months and then it grows thicker and longer again. I recently trimmed it up for summer and I was thinking about just cutting it off completely.
Hi Greg Thanks for your advise :) it made me realize that my beard was overstaying its welcome and went to my Barber and told her to make my Beard about 2 inches (5 cm) shorter . When She was done i looked in the mirror and saw that my beard looks more dense ,healthy and beautiful again . So a big Thank you from the Netherlands :) And the best wishes for 2020 :) :) :)
Great stuff, Greg. I'd like to comment on not the length of your beard but the look of your beard in this video. It's up to each of us to decide what the optimal length for our beard is, as you stated so well. But I can tell you objectively that your beard has never looked healthier then it does in this video, IMO. I'm not sure if you've done anything differently, but I don't recall your beard ever looking this straight and healthy and with this much sheen. New technique? Or just more unbridled Berzinsky beard majesty? Really looks particularly awesome in this video.
Funny you should mention about people commenting that your beard is getting long after trimming it, that really rings true with me. I get that all the time when I've trimmed it back (sometimes cutting nearly an inch off that very morning).
I’m currently on the way to figuring out what I’m working with in the only way I see fit. I’m doing the yeard challenge, but untrimmed because I just want to see what I look like if I just let my hair grow for 365 days untouched. I’m definitely thinner than most but I’m gonna stick it out, because I said I would, but also because I truly hope I end up with something I can shape into a nice beard. I’ve never grown for more than maybe 45 days because it’s so sparse, but I’m hoping it fills in with age.
I went through the wispy phase, and looking back, I feel I looked ridiculous. The length was reaching my chest, and have even accidentally tugged at it while trying to sleep. As for time and measurement, I cannot say. As for something more optimal/preferred, I think a bit shorter than your current length. I tend to regularly wear ascots, so having a beard that is too long can end up hiding what I am wearing. Concerning the growing into the wispy phase, part of me wonders if there is a cultural view about it. What I am referring is perhaps a mindset came into being that the longer beard is a sign of genetics and hormones regardless of how optimal it appears.
Totally agree, Greg! My beard has reached its peak. Looking in the mirror my hair isn't thick beyond my t-shirt collar. Not quite making it to the yeard status as a trim is due! Not going for the dirty wizard look!
Great topic Greg. I don't know what my terminal length is but I have grown a yeard before. It wasn't terminal at that point cause it didn't appear wispy, but, it wasn't my preferred length. I guess my preferred length is when it covers the adam's apple, or around that area. I sort of use that as a gauge. In the new year, I'm really going to let my mustache grow. I'll see if I can get a great stache like you guys come June, or if genetics just isn't in my favor. In that respect, I feel that the mustache would dictate how much longer I can let the beard get (for symmetry reasons). Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays.
I’ve recently changed my style. I’ve been keeping it tidy and blow dryed from month 6 to month 18. It was looking Very terminal ( Really see through at the bottom 2 inches and a lot more flyaways that were just untamable So I’ve stopped taming it. I run a brush through it just to untangle but that’s it. I put my oil in, quickly shape it Afro style and go. It’s quite liberating, especially on a windy day. And I also think my beard looks fuller this way and more classic beard shaped.
I'm probably at the 2 month mark at going a beard and so far disappointed wouldnt be disappointed but my right cheek has a big bald spot looks like some hair might be coming in but cant really tell
I hit terminal at about 6 months. Optimal length is about only 2 inches from my chin. It's been hard tk accept, but hey, it actually looks so dense because it's really curly. I wish you have someone in your staff with a very curly beard to share tips. I think Ben has a very curly beard just like mine, but I haven't seen him growing it much. Anyways, merry Christmas to the community! Cheers!
I agree with the problem: i.e., you don't want length that starts to look sparse and disheveled. But I have reservations with proposed solution: i.e., hacking off any uneven length sticking out. Consider your own advice when it comes to fly-aways. Your first impulse shouldn't be to cut them off, but rather to retrain and reshape them. When a beard starts thinning at the bottom, beardsmen should at least consider using their round brush/blowdryer to curl the bottom inward. Such an approach fixes the problem of a thin/scraggly bottom, while simultaneously allowing your beard to both retain more length and have a fuller body.
I've changed the length and style of my beard many times over the years. I'm always looking for a bit different look and have fun changing my style. My "optimal length" and style is rather subjective and changes over time. I don't think I've ever found it's "optimum" state. I will say, though, about a 6 month length does seem to look better and is easier to manage. 👍
been growing my second beard for about 8 months now and it measures 7" from the bottom of my chin, and I think its terminal. I probably need to cut about 2" off to make it look full...but i dont want to!!!!
I recently took my beard growing properly, it's a little light on my cheeks so I shave it into a connected balbo shape which suits my face, the front of my chin and my moustache is really thick, which works well but the hair underneath my neck is also very thick but grows at all different angles and I would like to grow a long beard but not sure how to cope with some hairs growing up/left/right. I'm using wax/balm and combing reguaraly but it's almost as if some hairs grow far quick and make it look like my beard is growing left lol
Very interesting video w important information. In my case: going to guess terminal at apron 8-9m, looks best at 6m length. Stache....I tend to trim due to eating disasters....so I have never let it grow besides 1cm bellow lower lip. Merry Xma$ and keep on growing.... Erics New Years wish: to grow again into adulthood.
Don't know what my terminal length is. The longest I've grown my beard is 18 months and except for some split ends it was still doing well according to my barber. An unfortunate self trimming incident caused me to start over in July, so we will how it goes this time.
Maybe I'm a strange kinda beardsman but I prefer it when I have a short beard or stubble just I feel it suits me. If I had a fuller and thicker moustache I would grow it a lot longer. My moustache goes terminal really early sadly.
Ive done a tweard n it went 2 the bottom of my chest n I noticed it was still growing so I think maybe 3 years is my terminal cause by yeard it gets wispy n stragly but still grows n my optimal length I would say is 10 months
Exactly vid i needed im at the 7 month stage i want the side high and thicker but hair slowly coming in but looks good been getting close to to trim wanna give it best shot so haven't touched it since july 4 cant wait to shape it and trim but giving it a full shot at growing i want a fuller mustache and side thicker but since got the growth i wanted in areas i wanted so probably wait til summer but since found yals channel im getting the beard i wanted and look . and alot love it well ladies 💘 my beard got me compliments from ladies usually when i wouldn't get any and from dudes lol just my experience im just regular dude idk but the beard added something its crazy ! 😜 like a painted flame added🔥 to the side of my box aka square bear 📦🐻 weird analogy i know but can explain it.
I remember when I had a couple weeks of stubble one time, I was putting on a coat and one of my whiskers got snagged by the zipper. Wouldn't have happened had I just shaved.
I've worked in food my whole adult life, as such I've had to keep my beard short. I want to get to the point where I can take a year and a half off or so to grow it out just to see what it looks like.
@@Yorker1998 hmmm, im pretty sure ive seen men and women with facial hair. they just gotta wear a hat or hair net on their head and a hair net on the face but i could be mistaken
@@韓国J Most places have you clean shave and they encourage you to do it everyday because you can't have a hint of stubble either. Sounds like the military!
I think, on many people an extra long beard (druid-like) looks like not having it at all. I think the best lenght of your beard is when it emphatizes your jaw and makes it look stronger. When it grows too long, it takes an unnatural shape and you lose this benefit.
Hello, Beardbrand Alliance, I need your advice. I've been growing my beard for the last 4 months or so, and I try to take care of it as best I can. The thing is, since I'm middle-Eastern, my beard grows quite thick and curly and it's incredibly difficult to tame with a hairdryer and comb or even a heat brush. I'd say the hairs now are about 3 inches long if I pull them, but they spring back up to maybe the third of that length. My best strategy so far is to sort of shape the beard with my hands and it's pretty hit or miss. Any advice? or should I cut it short since it's that untamable?
Omar El Garhy I’m Hispanic but I have that similar issue. The upside to having a beard like that is that it’ll look fuller and won’t look as thin as other beards.
Omar El Garhy I say when you shower and have beard conditioner in your beard, use a comb to comb through. Make sure to apply beard butter at night too before bed. I don’t use balm anymore, just oil and butter instead. It definitely helps with that. I use a detangling brush as well in the morning and in the night.
My razor beckons, I miss you! But it’s only been three weeks, but I have an itch to get back to it and I’m trying to get over it, let’s face it... sorry!
I don't think I do entirely agree, Greg. We should embrace what we have. If guys want to rock a wispy beard. Let them be. If they want to rock a terminal length beard. Let them be as well. If they don't like the wispy beard, chop it off and create a thicker look. Long or short. There's no right or wrong. It is really entirely to their satisfaction or personal preference on whatever it is or has.
Merry Christmas! I usually kept an occasional very tight (a couple shades beyond stubble) "chin strap" with thin mustache. Late October of this year I decided to treat myself to a mature, dense beard. Currently, my beard is a half inch long and it is undetermined how long I want it - just playing by ear until this April/May.
It doesn't look too natural the way the beard moves when greg talks, I feel it's just been dried out and forced down when it doesn't want to sit that way naturally
I found that cutting everything or using a straw is the easiest! However, there are a few guys who use hair clips when eating. Kissing, well I haven't figured that one out yet 😂 -Mack
Terminal, ZZ Top, or Man Mountain, all look terrible. A well styled, and maintained, short beard looks the best. And, unfortunately, most women prefer clean shaven or stubble. And women even complain about stubble, because it irritates their faces. You can't win for losin'.
AnotherDayInParadise lol, theirs signs of intelligent design everywhere, and ways to experience whatever it is that it is, through meditation, fasting, even prayer, shit you could eat magic mushrooms, or D.M.T. and experience what religions try to preach. whatever it is it's not what religions try to convey through words that defile, and pervert it's nature. it's not something that can be explained in words, because it taints it by doing so, it really is something that can be experienced by any one who looks. be it monks, religious nuts, or junkies through Psychaedelic drugs whose path leads to the same source whatever it is. science, psychics, and mathematics, are beautiful human concepts, being an intellectual is part of our primal nature, our skill, but until you look within your own spirit you'll notice that even we aren't smart enough to understand whatever it is that is out there. it cannot be described by our interpretation, thinking so is foolish, and only taints it's being. it's just something that can be experienced, intellectualism dosent hold a candle to the sun.
AnotherDayInParadise haha sorry i'm a bit high. I've just been debating on wether shaving my beard, an old grego popped up. anywho I know it may sound crazy to you whatever i'm preaching. I know religion has probably at some point raised your dreams with empty promises, and let you, and many down, and you might feel contempt by anyone who is open to the possibility of something being out there, but that's part of the problem trying to put the universe into words. it creates disaster. I really don't have it figured out the deeper you delve yourself into spirituality the further down you realize there seems to be no end of its infinitness. but, whatever. I became that spiritual nut i've never thought after taking the dive. lol. merry Christmas man. take care!

Merry Christmas! I have a question. I'm 37, growing out my beard for the first time. It's been almost 2 months, and coming in full, not patchy. When should I go in and have it shaped at the barber? 4 months?
OK so, Once it starts looking scraggly, And you trim it will it not grow anymore? Just trying to learn.
Merry Christmas to you and your whole family Greg, this man found the fountain of youth and is also Santa
Epic beard Greg, well played 🤝
I was disappointed with my yeard so I’m carrying on to a 2 yeard or maybe 3 yeard I’m 16 months in. Because my hair curls inwards it looks shorter. The hairs on the middle of my chin are short I have to do a comb over from the sides would you say I’m doing the right thing?

dear greg i don’t think i can go terminal my father and all his brothers (4) had beards down below chest it takes 2months to hit my collar bone area
Who did the great painting over the mantle?
Epic beard brother. Great video as always.
I'm presently shooting for the Duck Dynasty look, full 6inches so far, think I've the long growing gene.
btw- long whispy is a style too.
Great video I like the tree in your video! Happy holidays !
Would you suggest someone who has extremely thin chops to grow those out along with the chin and stache?
This is my personal battle at the moment, great subject to talk about. My side's of my beard seem to be growing faster then the rest of it. After a blow dry and fully

Don't straighten your beard so much. Waves give density.
Happy merry Christmas bro
Merry Christmas Greg and everyone at Beardbrand. Haven’t reached terminal yet, and the longest my beard has been is 6-7 inches. My optimal and preferred are the same around 8-10 months or 4-5 inches. That’s the length I like and where my beard looks it’s thickest and strongest. Lol

Funny you should mention about people commenting that your beard is getting long after trimming it, that really rings true with me. I get that all the time when I've trimmed it back (sometimes cutting nearly an inch off that very morning).

Does optimal and terminal beard length increase with age?
This longer beard style is epic 👌🏽 better than short greg
I extend that towards terminal length by styling. Curling under keeps the density on the ends and gives it that clean look
Totally agree, Greg!
My beard has reached its peak. Looking in the mirror my hair isn't thick beyond my t-shirt collar. Not quite making it to the yeard status as a trim is due! Not going for the dirty wizard look!

Good video 👌🏼
I find alot of mustache hairs get clipped off by my teeth when eating if i dont have any wax in it
Just say merry Christmas!
Thanks. I had to see this to finally recognize that my 3 year old beard was thinner at the bottom.
Mine too. 30 month mark and It hurt to whack the 8 inches off.
Have you read about the guy from India who has a 14 foot long moustache?
Now that's impressive!
Haven't hit that "terminal" length yet. Beard is about 1.5" longer now than in the profile pic. ~16 months so far.
MERRY X-MAS TO THE "O.G. SANTA" GREG BERZINSKY.
due to my job, i shave everyday and keep my hair short. in 26 days, i can finally grow my head hair and facial hair and see its character!
@@Farquad76.547 nah, im proud to serve my country but it's time for a new profession
In fast food you're required to do the same.
My wife said longer is always better before she left
Phil Velasco she is now telling me the same but hasn’t left yet
@@TheAnthonrsls she's your problem now
Hold on, what we talkin about now?
#suicidebywords
She spent a night at my house and I told her tighter is better.
Die hard knicks Fan since I was swimmin in the sack Oh yeah absolutely, but the hairs don't spread as easily. How do you deal with the issue?
@@diehardknicksfansinceiwass2683 I'm also Hispanic - agreed, it's nice to effortlessly grow a dense beard.
Jon Fernandez yup at first I didn’t like it. But I’ve grown to like it, i wouldn’t want my beard to be any other way.
Greg, have you considered trimming your mustache to the lip? I think it would look great.
Blayne Cooper I hope he styles it into the handlebar style again
@@gaminglegend That was a cool look. But shorter might be a nice change of pace too.
Legend has it Chuck Norris’s beards terminal length is 2 x that of the Wall of China and is more solid then the stone that’s in it!
He uses diamond played scissors to trim it
Plated* / covered yall know what i meant
It doesn't look too natural the way the beard moves when greg talks, I feel it's just been dried out and forced down when it doesn't want to sit that way naturally
That's what she said..
His beard has some wiggle and bounce to it
Lol this is just Greg roasting everyone xD
HOW IS YOUR BEARD SO STRAIGHT WOW ALSOME BEARD I WANT MY BEARD LIKE YOUR
That long moustache would annoy the shit out of me trying to eat.fashon over form
you look like santa
that lip curtain needs a trim.. o/w this guys got great hair and beard...
Yeh how do you eat when the mustache grows over you're mouth or kiss lol?
I found that cutting everything or using a straw is the easiest! However, there are a few guys who use hair clips when eating. Kissing, well I haven't figured that one out yet 😂 -Mack
@@BeardbrandAlliance I'll kiss you I want to see how this works :)

Terminal, ZZ Top, or Man Mountain, all look terrible. A well styled, and maintained, short beard looks the best. And, unfortunately, most women prefer clean shaven or stubble. And women even complain about stubble, because it irritates their faces. You can't win for losin'.
Going completely clean shaven really is the safest bet.
That mustache needs a trim, Greg.
Amazing how a man, who’s career is founded on physics, science, and math, uses terms like intelligent design.
what's wrong with that?
Tren Babone, bless your heart. I can’t help you if you don’t don’t comprehend the irony.
Tren Babone, since you have that all figured out, might I suggest increasing your mastery of the written word? Just a thought.
I became that spiritual nut i've never thought after taking the dive. lol. merry Christmas man. take care!
Whoa pardon me, but you think it's part of "intelligent design" ?
That's what he said!
I hope he does
Merry Christmas
