I agree with absolutely everything you said, slides on any RV just create more weight, more maintenance, more opportunity for leaks. But the point you said that I 100% agree with as well is when you said having a slide just gives you more airspace, I’ve always said the same thing, slides just create a broader space on your floor they don’t give you more storage, they don’t give you more amenities within the RV, they just create more floor space. And I would argue in a truck camper they make it less efficient because, you’ve also suggested, that you really have to put the slide out, you can’t leave it in if you’re in a Walmart parking lot.
Im still working my way towards getting what i want. I am really really be attracted to the Cirrus truck tops. But arctic fox looks nice too. I like the extra utility of the king stars but I dislike the fact that there are not actual Four Seasons ;( I just wish they would make these campers with cassette toilets. King star does it but I don't like how their bathrooms are set up either. If I could get the Cirrus with the cassette Of the king star along with the desk set up inside their command center version. Instead of the useless Space hogging Dinette (useless to me because ill be flying solo and do t need a table for four....) Where's the bigger LP tanks that some of the Arctic fox carry. I'd be in heaven.
I agree with you, & yours is very open & lots of light coming in the windows! It has more of a "Home" feeling! The only thing I like about a slide is a big "U" shape "Booth" like dining sitting area cuz I would use that as a couch! But I see what your saying with yours, so u cant have it all!👍✌️
Extra room is over rated. I love the coziness of my normal truck camper, and it’s handy being able to reach across from the table and flip the pancakes.😂 I’m still in awe of your bunk headroom. Might have to tear my flat roof off to do a barrel vault. 🌲🤙
Wait until the snow falls and getting up there to sweep of snow. A slide topper always get tangled in ice and snow. In the summer it's leaves, acorns and such.

Good, down to earth video, sir. I subscribed today after watching a few of your videos over the last month. I have an old Capri Rodeo which I put a wood stove into. I have camped in the Rodeo steady since I bought it but still live in a home. Probably at 40 to 60 days a year now. To answer your question about content, I would be interested in hearing about provisioning for a longer boondock and some cooking of that food. I sometimes camp for two or three weeks in a stretch and the alone time is good for me, but food always brings me back to town. Also, several day in the life of winter boondocks episodes would be enjoyable.
Our camper is 4 season and has no slides. Its very roomy with tons of storage. Its also old as hell...but...no leaks, no mold no broken odds and ends.👍😎🇨🇦
My husband and I have a class c chevy thor 24ft no slide. We chose with no slide for reason the slides always seem to break and have issues...and plus they are hard to keep heat/cold in....Enjoy your videos
My slide is very poorly insulated for a supposed 4 season camper. So if it’s cold, I have to leave it in or it’s very difficult to heat the interior. And yes, an undeployed slide is just in the way all the time.
Hey Kevin, I built a 12’ travel trailer cause I wanted to be able to set up camp then use my truck to drive to near by trails and attractions.. but I’ve since realized that the truck camper is so much better. Just seems so much easier to just fold up your ladder grab your leveling blocks and hit the road.
Ya, I wondered if an awning would be useful or not. I guess it would be used just for a couple weeks or so in the summer. By the way, I drove from home (Edmonton) to Prince Rupert. All on Hwy 16. Then took the Inner Passage Ferry (BC Ferries) from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy. Stayed on the northern part of the island as much as I could - yup, for that reason - less people. And it’s gorgeous there. Dude, I think you’re awesome. Keep posting.

We have a 4 season camper with a slide (and an awning). Rarely use our awning, the slide helps with a bit more space for the 150 lbs mastiff to be on the floor😂 this is our first year with this camper, so I'm not sure how cold camping will be this fall/winter yet, but looking forward to going and finding out! ❤ Another great video! Your always better off and safer to have less camper and more truck like you did, that bit of extra room isnt worth it in my opinion, I found a 96 F350 reg cab 4x4 with the single axle and will go with something similar weight wise, looking forward to my semi retirement and exploring the country, Keep it up with the great content Kevin, there enjoyable and relaxing to watch and stay safe out there
Hey Kevin, nice video. I totally agree with everything you brought up in this video. I have an Arctic Fox 811. I got it really cheap from a family member and love it, but… I camp solo with two huskies and really my use for the dinette is for the dogs to lay under the table and as counter space. I really like your set up. If I change at some point I will go with a Northern Lite. Love the fiberglass, clam shell, no slide, less maintenance. You’re right about having to plan for the slide going out when you park in parking lots/on the street. I plan to remodel my slide - remove the dinette, build a platform over the furnace and put a couch (dogs can lay on couch) over that with lagoon table(s). That way it will feel roomy and be easy to get in through the door with the slide in not having the dinette sticking out into the isle way. When the slide is out it will feel huge. Great Video - if you're going to live in a place where cold can kill you, I would think a large hole in your house with a particle board box in it would not be a plus.

I hear you on your points. There is a female RUclipsrs that just bought a truck and an old cheaply made pop up truck camper and I watched her basically rebuild it. I think this is her 3rd vehicle trying to do the life on the road thing and I just told her in her latest video she wasted her money on the truck and wasted her time rebuilding the truck camper. She asks opinions after she buts things. Another one asks for advice then ignores all the advice and finds the hardest most miserable way to do things wasting money then complains for the next 6 months to a year while suffering in living conditions and complaining about that too. Why can’t they think like you. Practical. Thinking a head weighing all your options really thinking what am I going to be doing with this?
Have a Bigfoot 9.6 on a one ton Silverado. Looking to upgrade to bigger camper, perhaps a 10-2000. What are your thoughts on using it with a single rear wheel vs dually? Most of the 10-2000 NL I see are on dually rigs. Any issues with the SRW 3/4 ton with the 10-2000 series?
My 10-2000s dry weight is 2400lbs, truck has handled it with ease honestly but I wouldn’t put any bigger on this truck. Dually will just be easier with any truck camper and a good peace of mind

I'm 100% not interested in a camper with a slide. just more leak points and more things to break even if it does increase the living area a little.
I tried one with slide lasted one year and switch to a truck camper with triple slides and will never go back

Slides also allow entry points for bugs, insects, critters and pests if the seals don’t seat properly

Can go both ways! If you stay in one area long a travel trailer can be king cause a empty truck is easier to drive around

With slides come vectors and seals and breakdowns. IMHO (which you didn't ask for) I think you made the best decision.
