I had a great success with Metroplex and my shubunkins and koi. I created a dough from bread and egg and a bit of flour and garlic powder and a dose of the meds. I kneeded it until it became like pizza dough. Then you can make tiny balls and control which fish you throw it too! I believe that can be used for any fish type that is plant based diet. Good luck! (I found that trying to soak pre-formed pellets with that med is not good enough. Fish spit it out and then more of it leaches out into the tank, than gets eaten. I really like my formula)

I use Melafix to treat isolated fish in a tank and to treat a tank with new fish (use for 3 days). I recently had to treat a couple African Cichilds. The Frontosa was not himself and had cloudy eyes a newer fish had body and fin damage. I removed them and treated a 20 gallon tank with Melafix and they are doing fine now. I've also soaked pellets in Epsom salt every so often to keep them regular.

I use pellets soaked in Metro and it's been a very effective treatment as long as you catch problems early and your fish are eating. I know Seachem is probably a sponsor but that Metroplex is so expensive compared to pure metro powder, if you have to actually treat a tank the cost can really add up fast. I've also had to treat colonies so rather than just treat the food I needed to take action swiftly and just treat the tank. Thank you for doing these videos, they may save someone some heartache.

As a biologist and 25 years with African cichlids, I am very interested in the results of your experiments. Hexamita as we know is the major contributor towards Malawi bloat. Sometimes the fish bloat, sometimes they become emaciated. In my experience once in shows up, the parasites have already done irreversible damage to the internal organs of the fish. Recovery is infrequent with medications and there is generally lasting fish issues such as emaciation, and general weakness. This is why prevention has to be of upmost importance. For me this means Epsom salts, no krill or bloodworms in the diet, using a metro infused fish food, and mixing vegetable pellets into their diets.

Parasites drop eggs as part of their life cycle. Nobody ever addresses this. So pulling 1 sick fish out and treating it may not do any good for the rest of the tank. Plus if their is 1 sick fish how do you know for sure none of the tankmates are infected but not showing signs yet?

I started treating the hospital tank the day after I noticed it with prazipro, which was recommended by the local fish store. I wasn’t noticing any results with that so the other day I saw your video and started treating with metroplex, focus, and garlic guard. However he’s not eating. I plan on treating the tank with epsom salt when I get home today. I was wondering if you had any other tips or tricks I could try because I’m starting to worry. Thank you so much.
