- HOW TO Test the Mercedes 722.6 Transmission CONDUCTOR PLATE and SOLENOIDS from the TCM Connector. You DO NOT need to take the transmission apart. You'll need a decent quality digital VOM Multimeter and some small paper clips. BONUS hints and tips for checking/replacing the (leaky O rings) at the transmission electrical connector also included.

Did that work for you ? Thank me by SUBSCRIBING PLEASE !!!
Thank you for this video.
I've been inside my trans 3 times already chasing the limp home ghost... my MB scanner arrives tomorrow! Thanks i hope
Let us know how that worked for you !!
AMAZING VIDEO! IVE bin struggling with a trans problem that throws the code P0702. Im running these tests today. I already changed the plug because it was leaking and I cleared the code but it keeps coming back at random. paid a shop 600 canadian and they still couldnt pin point the issue witch feels kind of ridiculous. Makes no sence why the didnt run this test. I feel cheated. Anyways this test is going to answer s huge question I had and your video couldnt have come at a better time because I was about to change my plate without even knowing for sure I had to!
Brilliant approach! Well said. What is the best O ring source and part? I am on my third connector plug chasing leaking TF.
I have a 98 SLK230 and a Foxwell medcedes scanner (38 pin round connector). When it tries to read the TCM, it reports a CAN fault. I do have some ATF on the connector at the transmission, and I have the new pilot bushing on order and plan to replace. My TCM is clean- no oil has wicked up.
So, I'll replace that pilot bushing (seems to me that I could just replace the O-ring, but the new part is $15, so what the heck). But if I keep getting a CAN bus fault when reading the TCM, does that sound like a wiring harness issue (internal shorts, etc)?
Thanks for the GREAT video- very well explained! I have the exact same Fluke, BTW.
Hi everyone and David Frank, thanks for the very detailed video. I have a problem with 722.6 on 2003 w211. I'm getting from my TCM:
P2502 Gear not plausible, or gear box spins
and
P220A N2/N3 RPM comparison nor plausible
I've replaced: conductor plate (OEM), whole valve body with another conductor plate and other solenoids, plug (OEM), cleaned all contacts (contacts were fine, only very little oil). I was resetting codes in TCM using Mercedes-specific CarSoft v12 (not regular obd). Every time after resetting code (and codes are really reset), I'm driving and getting the same codes again. Unable to find the answer. If anyone knows what might be the problem, please let me know. Thank you.
How can I clean the area after Ive taken off the valve body
Thanks a great help. Can I suggest using silicone grease and not petroleum based grease that degrade the rubber O rings on the connector??
stick to petroleum based lubcricant when doing the inner 0 ring.Outer one could easily do with silicone grease. But do not overdo it.To be honest..its good enough making sure everything is 100 percent clean when reinstalling a new connector..and apply just a thin film of oil on both. That is enough..and it will never cause any unnessesary issues :) Greetings from Norway,Stefan
If my car is I’m limp mode and I have no connection to tcm can I still reset the code or do I need a tcm
Thank u for the clear infos and video, i am doing my deep research right now then I saw ur video,my CLK 320 2002 is in limp mode shifts only from 1st to 2nd & R even we have changed the conductor plate + check engine light is ON + from P to N or D u hear a bang !
What do u think is the reason and from where to start ? I have ordered the icarsoft i980 already before i watch ur video and I don’t know if it will help.
Thanks again for the clear infos in ur Video and greetings from Austria.
For me the first time this happened, I had to change the Shifter module (super expensive), AND the conductor plate. Sucked big time. That was 2 years ago, and now it's back in limp mode and so I gotta go for round two. I feel I may need a new valve body this time around. If I'm going in, I'lll likely just do a valve body and conductor plate. I feel like the clutchpacks inside are fine.
If you fixed it by now, what was it?
@@paulsilva1357 unfortunately we couldn’t figure it out and the car is sleeping in the garage. I fed up from searching and wasting time in the transmission black hole.
G 463, 1997, TD, the Mercedes mechanic has replaced the selenoy and body valve and the shifter. when we put the speed arm on the D, there is a delay of 5 seconds before doing the speed D. where is the problem? the mechanic thinks that the body valve is defective and replaces it with a new one. What do you think?
sounds like you already replaced the valve body so: Did that fix the problem? or not?
Where can i buy that scanner ?
Hey, great video! Do you know if there is a way to test the TSS turbine speed sense from this harness for code p0715?
yes there is.But im afraid i do not remember which pins it is.I used to work for the mb dealer..and did alot of testing like this. But there is certain pins that is for the turbine speed sensors.I may going to make a video on this at some point..as i just did a full EHS overhaul on my w210 e50 amg.Greetings from Norway
I have this error code currently, i I know it's a long time ago but did you manage to find out what pin it was for TSS?
@@stephenbarnes5341 Sorry, I don't remember, but I did end up replacing the transmission conductor plate and I think that was what fixed it. Good luck!
Was your car in limp mode at anytime
@nimsom50
David excellent video, and yes I did subscribe. Can you or anyone on this page tell me what would cause the transmission to shift but not engage. The live data scan shows all the shifter locations are recognized but the trans does not engage. I have a Autel scanner with the 38 MB adapter which can rest the trans, a icarsoft scanner that also can reset some tans functions and has live data, the conductor plate and filter has been replaced and ran fine for months. I also checked the brake light switch, wheel speed sensors, and any oil leaks from the tans going to the electrical box. I will follow your steps in checking the solenoids but they were checked and ok when I replaced the conductor plate. I have a 98 Mercedes SL. Any suggestions that you or anyone on the page would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Fluid level is good? Checked at operating temp on level ground? Any problem w electronics/connections/solenoids will keep in in 2nd gear (limp mode)
@@Vortxrex The fluid is at the correct level checked at the correct operating temp. Wiring harness from the trans is dry, linkage to valve body is connected, the solenoids were checked during the conductor plate replacement. The car never went into limp mode. I was taking off slowly from a light and it suddenly had no power from the trans. No warning, prior the car ran flawlessly. Any suggestion you might have would be greatly appreciated and thank you for the prompt response.
No limp mode means all the electronic systems are working and there is something mechanical wrong in the transmission. My next move would be to replace the valve body. How dirty was the fluid?
@@Vortxrex The elimination of the electronics is a big help, I appreciate it. As for the oil, nothing really out of the ordinary, no metal shavings or chunks of metal. Before I go through the valve body is their a way to test the trans pump while in the car? I've come across some information stating it a common problem with the 7222.6. Thank you for your help you've already saved my a lot of time.
So I did this and I was geting around 3.9ish on all of them. Is that too low? Also should the car be in the on position when testing?
Car should be off, readings sound good.
@@Vortxrex like off with key out of the ignition?
so after determining the values of each pin, how does it fix the limp mode??
By eliminating those associated components and connections
Do you test with the key off or on ,
u didn't explain there
off
My one when I do the tests , all connecters are reading 0.01 , what could be the problem
try a different meter, also the meter can take a few seconds to get a reading
@@Vortxrex thank you David I will try another meter .
This test, is it the same for a w163?
Hi, does your have the same transmission? Then it will work, if the transmission is different than you will need the schematic diagram for yours
