- The Mercedes 722.9XX NAG2 (7G-Tronic) rear wheel drive seven speed automatic was modified from the 722.6XX five speed transmission. Architecture is comparable as is rebuilding procedures. A significant departure however involves the valve body/conductor plate and the effort required to purchase and program the assembly. The TRP (theft relevant parts) process must be followed when dealing with Mercedes.

722.9's require a full FLUSH every 40k mi (for older red fluid boxes). Newer 722.9's with blue fluid have a longer service interval, but obviously 40k mi wouldn't hurt.
Thankfully, the 1st owner of my c207 chassis did it at 39k mi & I did it right at 80k. 100% transformed the car to like new condition. The fluid looked brand new & there was virtually no metal shavings at all. It's also recommended to clean the screens on the solenoids during the 3rd service at 120k mi, although the plug section on the conductor plate is fragile & will break if not removed GENTLY.
I had the first service at 39k and at 48k had the control plate fail, codes for the speed sensor, rebuilt plate, new fluid and now at 63k when its hot have trouble with no acceleration from a stop intermittently

So this is good extra knowledge in case it does go down. I watch all your videos. I have many cars, another is BMW 750li which is the ZF transmission. Im glad these are easy to get parts and gets tutorials

Yeah, the whole Theft-value argument is BS.
Mercedes did this because they wanted to clamp down on DIY/aftermarket repairs of there finnicky "sealed for life" transmissions.
The master technician at MB Exchange Transmissions in Fremont, CA told me this. Bay area people who own sprinters or Mercedes might recognize these guys as some of the most knowledgable and and well respected authorities on the topic of the 722.x transmission, given that they are the primary suppliers of refurb/reman replacements to the *DEALERSHIPS* (who only go through Mercedes for in-warranty or top-trim AMG repairs). Also honest and good business men. My entire NAG1 replacment, turnkey with torque converter, torque converter fluid additive, cleanout spray system for the oil cooler radiator, and 1 gallon of MB spec ATF.... $2,200 out the door.
My gorgeous 08’ ML320 CDI turbo diesel SUV transmission just gave out on us and went into limp home mode and made some noises like a chain snapped or possibly the torque converter went so now I just ordered a Mercedes car soft i980 scanner to scan the TCM and see what the issue is. I’ve checked on eBay and looks like there’s some shops out there that will reflash your conductor plate if you send it to them and perform the SCN which is very hopefully especially for someone like me who will under no circumstances take my vehicle in to the stealerships.
Working on a 722.9 in a 09’ GL320. Won’t go more than 40mph and harsh shifting. Code for Y3/8y4 also came up on scanner . Dropped the transmission pan and found typical super fine dust like metal wear (normal), and metal shavings about the size of a tic tac in length and thin as a piece of paper (not normal imo). Going to drop the valve body tomorrow to see if I find anything but just wanted to know your opinion on what to replace whether it be the whole transmission or just the valve body and conductor plate, anything helps thanks!

"TRP" is a scam and Merc is just another shifty corporation anymore. Gone are the days of living up to "the best or nothing". The only objective now is to bust quality down as much as necessary to put a Benz on every driveway then prevent anyone but a Benz dealer from servicing it.

Hello! I have a problem, I changed the TCM of my ML500 w164 3 days ago (they programmed and adapted) but now I feel that my Mercedes does not respond the same. When accelerating, it does not lower the gears, it stays at the same RPM and when it decides to accelerate, no gear raises more than 4 thousand RPM
Could it be a bad adaptation or programming?

How does the brake light switch power the interlock?
My 2013 c250 stays on 1st gear. Thought it was tje transmission but it didn’t smell like burnt transmission. It throws a code P2767 and P2768. Is it possible this might be it?
Changed my conductor plate on my Merc. S 500, thru out old one. Later, found out I needed it to get program from it to make the new conductor plate work. Dealer won't help me, car has over 180 Mi. why has Merc. made it so difficult to aquire the parts and service to keep my car going? I refuse to junk my car .

There is a much simplier method to provide service and component replacement. If you have a bad plate, and they go bad on this tranny. You buy a plate from a pick your part junk yard, are LKQ junk yard. You will need to get the plate wiped clean the vin number, and have the vin number scaned on the part you are going to install. There are hackers that know how to perfrom this phase. You must also change out the tranny filter, use new synthethetic tranny oil, and new gasget and new oil pan screws, the screws are aluminum. The proper servicing of oil is critical, there is no dip stick to check. It is done by tempeture of oil, and oil is stalled under vehicle using a jury rig pump.
In removing the speed sensor, the bottom of the sensor well crumbled. Can I leave this open?

... that's actually an older control plate, made by Siemens. The new ones are made by Continental, don't ask me how I know :(

My mechanic put wrong oil trasmission on my c300 2012 . He put red one 236.14
But the car need 236.15 blue one. I have made 14k km , what should i do . Could i have problem if i change now with blue one or should i keep red one
My 722.9 went into limp mode. I reset it, and now I only have reverse. There was oil in the conductor plate plug.....The 2 round seals don't seem to keep oil out of the plug. There must be a seal on the back of the conductor plate side plug. Has anyone seen just these seals fail in a 722.9? I know 722.6 the plug seals were a thing, but this isn't just a couple seals. It seems to leak oil into the plug from the conductor plate side. Please help. I've been without my car forever now. 😢 It didn't really give any warning either. I hate to go through the whole conductor plate shuffle, If I can replace some seals on the existing conductor plate. Anyone seen similar?
It's going to get fluid on the valve body period. I just submerged mine in 5 gallons of gas cleaning it by back and forward action. Put in 8 1/2 qts of fluid. Do this let it run for awhile remove drain plug while car is running there should be a drip if not put in a little more till it drips. Car is full. Remember the old way transmission must be running to check dipstick. Same here but by a drip from drain plug. The valve body is just dirty.
Do drain torque converter then add the 8 1/2 qts. Top off if you have no drip. Just use weed sprayer hose with tape on it and screw action forcing it in drain hole. I find if it is forced in good it will not pop out. Good luck keep your money
I did these things. No change. I have to pull the Electrical plug to make sure oil isn't in it again, but I did a service myself without change to transmission. I noticed that the Oring on the conductor plate side seems to be the only way oil could get inside the plugin. If I pull electrical plug out again and it's full of oil, then I know it is E plug related.

Gas it before you replace anything it won't hurt your transmission . Don't listen to the RUclipsrs so much
Yes I am driving mine now just dirty when they act up. Solid state components on electronics sealed in hard gel. Gas it first !!!!!
More than likely these car are shorting out due to like of signal giving you those faulty codes that pay them to do nothing but clean it more than likely. Note they say don't clean it. Yes clean it my way.
Easy fix for this transmission is take the valve body out submerge it in gas shake it and watch the stuff that comes out. This will fix your ignition if it won't start also. This is a proven method on my S550. Now since I have said this they will build them to short out more than likely. Replace transmission screws with solid one and tighten to your desire but not enough to break them in transmission. Your car will will re- learn after this by going through the procedure on re- learning it.

Could someone take a bad VGS1 trans, swap in a used VGS2 trans and simply take the original valve body out and put it in the new VGS2 trans without needing any programming? provided the valve body is in good working order? say like a 2006 CLK 350 and a 2008 CLK350?
That's what i want to know , about the same except if i get a used transmission can you just swap out the conductor plates without any programming?
