Exact same thing that happen to me while being fit by Ian, went in there wanting to be fit into the Mizuno 919 forged but he put the 919 tours in my hands and the strike quality and turf interaction was hands down way better, he also said I was a bit more shallow and I would benefit from the thinner sole. Talk about an awesome video to confirm what an amazing fitting experience that TXG has to offer,
    Thanks again Mr. Fraser

Very interesting comments from Ian regarding both irons. You guys have given me some great insight into my own swing and why some irons have or have not worked for me in the past. I’ve become a picker like Ian and had fitters try to put me into a wide sole with a lot of offset and it’s been a disaster!!! My biggest problem is as I have gotten older (60+) I haven’t been able to play the game improving irons so I have lost some distance.

And this is why I love your channel. You talk about things, like shallow vs steep swings, the sole widths, and how these effect different types of swings, HCP be danged. I am very much a sweeper, and play a mid sole at this time, but at times I do wish I had less club down there, not more. That stuck feeling you describe is exactly what I feel, and most people look at me like my head is on backwards. I am a low 80's golfer, but a blade doesn't scare me. Some people let it scare them, and I think a lot of that is marketing scaring them. I look at it like this.....If I know there is more help, I don't tend to concentrate as hard and play worse. I find the smaller head makes me relax and just say to myself, let it go. If you are afraid to mess up, you will. Just relax and hit the ball. Maybe I am odd in that respect, but that is what works for me. Cheers from California

Sorry...shanked my iPad. When I was younger and played a lot more golf, the only times I broke 80, I used Mizuno MP-11 irons. Mostly I played smart golf, stayed out of trouble and made lots of pars. It would be fair to say that I didn’t help myself with my iron play but I could hit little knock down shots and the small touch shots that save a round. I also felt that I aimed better. I remember that I had R300 Dynamic Gold shafts that we’re totally wrong for me. I tried getting a “ club fitter” to put a senior flex shaft in the set and he refused to do it. He thought I was out of my mind. That was 1992 ish.

I have a high handicap and I didn’t wait to get better before buying Miura, but found that owning and using them made me better. That is one way to go if you can afford them. For me, their accuracy is the main factor. My other clubs, intended for high handicappers, cause me to hook the ball because of their offset.

Great video guys! You’ve been killing it lately!! I saw my first set of Miura irons (CB1008) this past summer at a Carl’s Golf Land near Detroit and just thought “Wow...Miura.” I think when it comes time for Ian to decide on his irons for 2019 that it’s worthy of a live fitting video! 👍
I’ve been hitting a lot of different irons this winter indoors on a Full Swing e6 simulator and a FlightScope as time allows. I started out being biased to the Z785 since it came out. Two months ago I hit the MP-18SC for the first time “just for fun.” The compact head didn’t inspire a lot of confidence for someone who ended last season with an 8 handicap and tends to miss it a bit out on the toe. There’s just not much toe out there. 😉 But I’ve really taken a liking to them and hit them as good if not better than anything I’ve tried. They’re surprisingly consistent on ball speed. I don’t see the well struck “jumpers” like my current P770 and they seem forgiving enough on a slight miss. They are a lot easier to hit than they look. The more I’ve hit them the more confident I am over the ball. And the feel...OMG!! 😍 When it comes time to get fit this Spring these will be a surprise edition to my short list.

Great review. Reminds me of my fitting. I’m a mid handicapper and have a shallow angle of attack and was playing JPX 900 Forged for awhile. I avoided the MP18 range because I always thought it was for single handicappers. One day a fitter recommended I try the mp18 SC. I tried it and hit the tightest shots I have ever hit. Just found it was easier to glide through the turf and the offset helped with my usual over draw miss. Switched over straight away and haven’t looked back. Have won a few comps since and handicap is dropping down.

Great job boys. I’m loving the channel. And even more so seeing you guys testing some JDM stuff. I know you can only test clubs that are sent to you, but perhaps if you reach out to the others like Epon, Fourteen, Honma, etc they’ll happily oblige. I currently took a gamble and bought a set of Fourteen PC555 irons sight unseen because no one is testing such brands. Luckily, the gamble was a blessing, but it would’ve been nice to go into it a little more confident in knowing what I might be getting. All I can say is, great job again, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed in hopes of a more “niche” future 👏🏌️🤞

I am a 15 handicap, and tried the “inner cavity 601” irons first, and then tried the mc 501 blades almost as a joke. But actually found the 501’s to be much easier and more consistent for me- even as a very average golfer!

I am a Miura loyalist and therefore biased but I am looking at those numbers and I love them and I think 95% of everyone watching this would jump at those number. I play 1957's and absolutely LOVE the consistency that they provide and don't get me started on the feel. I carry my 6 iron in the 182-185 range and that's what I get every time.... and within a 5% variant on a miss..... Ian is carrying that MFer 190+ and the numbers are tight..... put them in the bag and RUN.....trust me you're not getting better. In what world are those numbers not sitting with someone?? I was gifted a set of MB 5002s that had 2 rounds on them and I absolutely love 'em. I am a 10 HC, hit it pretty long, and mine actually helped me in that they made me put a good swing on the ball every time. Not only because of the knowledge I was hitting Miuras and would hate to shame them, but because if you miss the sweet spot you can call the dentist to have a tooth or two put back in.
The heavier head weights in the 501s should be partially responsible for the increased efficiency and distance.

The MC-501s are one of the most gorgeously crafted iron heads IMO. Money aside, I simply couldn’t play them just because I’m not built to hit a blade. The simplicity and elegance defies the NASCAR look that so many clubs go to, and it’s strikingly “aggressive” looking for better lack of a term. Ian rocks those 501s like no one’s business... maybe Mr. Muira could cut you a deal to put a set in your hands!

    Great video.
I play a Hogan PTx 29 degree, and love to hear that the Miura 6-iron is 28/29 degrees.
I find it confusing today with all various loft floating around. I understand that a person wants to say that he used an 9-iron for his shot and distance but loftwise it is a strong 8-iron.
My PTx (only carry a loft number - which is also a bit confusing (the new ones carry club number)) run 4 degrees between each club starting at 29 (33, 37, 41 and 45). My 5-iron is a Hogan FW Hi at 24 degrees. Then I have the Hogan FortWorth wedges starting at Pw 48 Gw 51 and Aw 54 with a different brand Sw at 59 degrees.
I am sure that some clubs overlap now and then but the set was build on my 100 yard shot. I dislike a 54 to be a SW.
A proper gap fitting would be nice.

Finally Miura. If have a chance, review Miura's legendary`957 mini-blades.
This CB-301 looks very much like PP 9003 which is club that Miura San built for himself after passing 50 years old.
Do not know if Miura still makes the Miuraism? The SC-01 has a beautiful feel.
Hope to see more Miura's clubs being compared to others but you got it spot on, Miura is consistent.
I play with the PP 9003 with KBS Tour 90 R. My SC-01 is with Tour AD AD55R when I needed a lighter club as I get older.

Good Review, I like JDM forged clubs I am playing old Yonex ADX Tour forged irons with a stiff LTB600 graphite shafts (the Yonex made shaft is incredible). Yes the lofts are higher but the feel is intoxicating and they fly dead straight. Besides distance is overrated, accuracy should be the most wanted attribute in an iron.

Great video. It would be very interesting to hear your comments on how the CB-301 compares to the old PP-9003 (if you ever tried those). With it's bigger head and wider sole it seems to me that this should be somewhat similar, but with the PP-9003 they talked even more about forgiveness in the marketing talk than they do with these. Do you (or someone else that have compared) any feel which of these two models would be the more forgiving.
I still own and sometimes play an old set of Miura MC-102 but to be honest I definitely need something more forgiving so I don't use them often. I didn't like the look of the Genesis-model they launched a couple of years ago. So recently I have mostly been playing another brand but it if the CB-301s are forgiving enough I might find my back to Miura.

I've played one round so far on my 501s and they're awesome! I hit them better than my M1s by far and they look and sound so much nicer. I'm nearly 60yrs old, have played for 5 years and am on a 16 handicap so these clubs aren't just for better players imho. I was amazed at how I just took to them on the first hit with a 4 iron off the tee. I think I'm in love lol. I'm using the S300 shafts.

Sorry Joe that is just my humour. Actually a non-British national can be Knighted (Bill Gates is an example) however, they cannot use the title Sir but can use the letters KBE (Knight of the British Empire) after their name. If however they then become naturalised British they can then use the title Sir, as in the case of Sir Terry Wogan, (who was Knighted for his services to charities). But as I say, I was just being light-hearted.

With irons you would want consistency and accuracy rather than distance. Also shaft can make difference. I like feel off club face. The compression of ball. Also ball match is another test. Fun to test products.

You alluded to the thinner sole being helpful to a shallower angle of attack. This might be common knowledge but I've not heard it said before. Thinking it may explain why I prefer a thinner sole but could never say exactly why. Is the idea that the shallower angle of attack is essentially slowed with a wider sole by having longer contact with the turf, while a steeper AOA is helped by not taking as deep a divot? Cool stuff, never thought of it that way before.

  • @wviti64
    @wviti64 5 лет назад +1

There isn't any doubting that if you achieve feel (heft) you can swing and hit the ball better and better, with visual influences taken into consideration, but likely to be more to do with the 3rd eye knowing what will work and what will not by visualisation.

Love the irony. Great intro blurb about Miura buyers likely being more emotionally driven, feel-based types, less into the "numbers' and more into the whole Japanese forged thing. Immediately goes to shot tracker off plastic mat. Would love some feel-based (no tech please) commentary hitting off grass? Call me old-fashioned but I'm one of those customers you described... :-)

I have a question, or maybe more a thought...
I have Mizuno jpx boron forged clubs, fitted for me 2 years ago. This year I'm planing on getting new clubs and tried mp-18 blades, just for fun, at first. But I have compared them with my own several times now, both outdoors and on trackman indoors, and I don't see much different in the numbers. I hit as many bad and good shots with both. My jpx are weakened 1° so there is just 1 or 2 degree of difference in loft between my own and the mp blades. I do loose a few meters in distans but I also seem to gain some accuracy with the blades. So my thought/question is, are we really playing better golf with more "forgiving" clubs?
