    You guys should try to do a comparison based on distance. Pick a target of 170-200 yards and then pick the club from each set that goes this far i.e. 7 iron Miura, 9 iron Mizuno with the same type of shafts but stock lengths. It would be interesting to see the dispersion differences to see if playing a stronger lofted iron is more accurate because of a shorter shaft.
    Love the videos, keep it up.

    “Guys, I hope this has been somewhat valuable...” try ‘incredibly valuable’ as each one of your videos addresses specific topics and issues we have all faced in our games, and provides fact-based research for answers as opposed to opinions or biased “product placement” adverts. I respect all of your efforts. Thank you.

    Another video with a great nugget of info. Matt, like you, I hadn't thought out adding some length to an iron, to eke out a bit more distance. Only thought of it for people like me who need it for their height. Great stuff.

    Great stuff guys! I play of scratch and got my Titleist irons 4-5cb and 6-pw mb 2deg strong on the 6-9 and everything else 1deg strong just to get a bit more out of it. And the gaping works really good now. It's awesome because I like to look at a blade but also want a bit more distance!

    LOL, I am 64 yrs. old and I just got fitted for the Mizuno JPX 900 forged and I have seen an increase in distance and accuracy. Of course, my old clubs were about 20 yrs. old. Now I am studying Aim Point for my putting and loving it.

    I put a Ladies Cobra 3W head (17* loft) on an "R" flex, 44" Aldila NV 65g men's shaft. The head is 6g lighter, so the extra 1" in shaft length leaves it at a D2 Swing Weight. It flies about 230y and is a dream to hit. Since I play in a place that doesn't have much wind it is great off the tee or for long approach shots. Sure, it looks dainty, but it usually shuts people up after seeing how accurate and workable it is.

    Great video.
    There was room for a discussion of what happens in both ends of the set with different lofts.
    I.e may strong lofted clubs create weird gaps on the wedge side,
    and may they also make the 3-4-5 iron unusable if you only swing like 65-75 mph.
    A video on building a set for a slow swingspeed player would be great!

      Great points, these distance irons create gaps in your wedge scoring clubs, and most high handicappers cannot hit a strong lofted 4 5 iron.

    Hi guys I recently purchased some JPX 919 Hot Metals "love them". Matt, you are great for the show I swing at the same speeds except after playing hockey for 30 yrs my transition is more aggressive. Q: I found these irons are easier to play in wind. Decreasing speed decreased spin so the ball seems to fly the same distance as normal into the wind. Matt have tried these in the wind if so your thoughts. Game improvement iron sounds like old man clubs I'm 40 and a 4 handicap prefer cavity back.

    Excellent video guys! Super educational and full of usable info that improves our collective golf IQ. Question - based on what was covered, one could eke out a bit more from your gamer by adding length, softer shaft and a couple of degree loft adjustment, correct? Most likely would result in a little less accuracy though, with an increased tendency to turnover, yes or no?

    • @clubchampionmedia

    how/when would you recommend a customer go with a blended combo set? would they have a certain swing speed or delivery of the club? when would you recommend a person replace their 6 iron with a hybrid? thanks for the video again, so much information to consider.

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад

      Generally a combo set suits a faster swing speed player looking to flight the short irons a bit lower. But some players just prefer the look of a blade in the short irons, and many modern muscle back designs offer enough forgiveness anyway. If someone can't hit their 6 iron with enough height and/or spin to provide stopping power on a green, a hybrid would be a better choice.

  • @mooremike44

    Another great video. Thinking of the compromises between accuracy, and distance can you do a video about building a mixed set for an average driver swing speed of about 100mph. Accuracy between wedges and 8 iron (150 yards and under), distance irons to cover 7-5(150-180), then either driving irons and hybrids(180-210) to cover the gap to the 5 wood (220). For my set it would be nice to get more launch and distance from my 5 and 6 irons but don’t want to give anything up in my scoring clubs.

    I'll take the consistent distance/dispersion over more(max) distance any day. You need to know what to expect from each iron for every shot, not 10 yds longer one time and 20 yds the next time etc.

  • @Loggies89
    @Loggies89 6 лет назад +1

    You could present those two clubs with the exact same 'accuracy'', which is to say 'degree opened closed to path, angle of attack, path, etc' but if one has less loft (less spin) and more ball speed, which translates to distance, it will be more off line, purely because it has traveled further along that same trajectory/path. It is not less 'accurate' it just went further.

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад

      You could, but we're looking at the dispersion as a measurement of accuracy. The lack of spin is also a factor in how much the ball can spin off line.

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  6 лет назад

      Daniel Young just adding to Matt’s comment Daniel. The PGA stats on accuracy aren’t in relation to how far you hit the ball, it’s purely a case off how far the ball finished from the target.

    • @Loggies89
      @Loggies89 6 лет назад

      It's not really a lack of spin, it's spinning as per the loft. Using dispersion as a measure is fine, but what you tested is that less loft has a larger dispersion than more loft. I think CG placements and one piece forgings probably do create more consistent spin which could certainly translate to better dispersion (accuracy), but because of how it was setup, this was more a test of "Is a 6 iron more accurate than a 5?" I enjoy the content, just thought I'd give my 2 cents.

    • @Loggies89
      @Loggies89 6 лет назад

      PGA stats for accuracy (approach shots) are measured as "average distance from hole in feet" and as distance of approach increases so to does the average distance from the hole. That's basically what this test showed. It wasn't really about this club by some piece of design (outside of loft and length) is more accurate then this one. There is probably a difference due to head design, but certainly less of a difference than portrayed. Which if I recall correctly was the case in your other test (same lie, length, loft). Good content, just wasn't really getting the point of this particular comparison.

    • @bengreen1262
      @bengreen1262 6 лет назад

      Daniel Young
      Some more 2 cents worth - If you had a 6 iron & 5 iron and you know they hit the same apex height and are within 500rpm and you had a test of 10 shots each .....you would psychologically be happier with the 6 for accuracy - I have put some power bats into play this year and they can certainly improve the long game but touch shots and short game they are lacking - I can definitely vouch for power bats on a windy day because of less spin.....

  • @craigwall775

    I finds the longest irons visually don't appeal to the eye when looking down on them

  • @KevinMDowney
    @KevinMDowney 2 года назад

    “Longest iron” doesn’t really make sense. It’s all about knowing how far you can hit each club - predictability.
    Can make irons longer by continuing to strengthen loft - but you need wedges you can hit exact distances in the 75-125 range.

  • @doublet91

    Considering 4 degrees difference in loft the 450 less revs seems pretty good from JPX.

    • @johnnypenso9574

      Add to that you'd be losing one club less into the green with the JPX and might have the same or higher spin for a given approach shot vs. a more traditional lofted club.

      @oldgold5848 6 лет назад

      TXG Tour Experience Golf no, I get it guys, and I love your channel and you do great work, but the manufacturers are muddying the water. Stronger loft and longer shafts means you are not testing the most accurate against the longest SIX iron. You did this before on a different vid, and Excellent it was to.What this one is,is feeding the ego for when a player tells his four-ball partners he is now hitting his six iron ten yards longer....strangely now he needs another wedge!!!! It is disingenuous of the manufacturers, loft should be a standard, surely??????
      As to higher ......fair enough, but without me looking at the launch angle again , not sure whether that is just due to being in the air longer at a lower launch??
      Sorry if this seems a bit of a rant. I dont mean it to be . I think your channel is great....man not so fussed about then hype fed to use by the club makers!

    • @justinstephenson9360
      @justinstephenson9360 6 лет назад

      It is tricky because the modern design of irons makes them launch higher, hence the need to reduce the static lofts. Last year I moved from 20 yr old Yonex irons (traditional loft) to M1s. Looking at static lofts my M1 7i has the loft of the Yonex 6i but the M1 7i has the shaft length of a traditional 7i, it flew like a 7i, I stop it on a green like a 7i but the reduced loft means the distance I get is actually slightly longer than my Yonex 6i: does that make the M1 7i a 7i or a 6i? For me it meant dropping a 4i from my bag and adding an extra wedge into the bag. S
