Alfa Romeo engineers had nothing to do with this car. This is 100% Peugeot. Only the badge is a poorly re-designed Alfa.
Peugeot 2008, Alfa Junior, Citroen C3 Aircross, Jeep Renegade, they are all the same cars. Only a few body panels, some interior decor elements and the front badge is different.
Why pay the extra cost for an Alfa Junior, when you can buy the same thing in “less shiny clothes” from Citroen?

Great test drive experience video. Like many Alfisti I am torn between my first love ICEs and these new EV kids on the block. But somehow almost all of us will eventually end up in the electric age and Alfa have no choice but to go with the flow. The absolutely crucial detail will be if Alfa can make their EVs feel like something special in the hands. The power plants are going to be from the same mold as many others (it's the only thing that makes economic sense), but the suspension setup and handling will make or break it. It is SO reassuring to see this video, to watch your face and to tell that there is real excitement going on. To me that means that Alfa must have done a great job in keeping some of the essential elements that make the brand what it is. I've seen the car twice in the flesh and whilst a little 'marmitey' it's certainly different enough to be eye catching. What's more the interior is really nice. I can't wait to get my hands on it for a test drive but my local Alfa garage seem to suggest that the lower spec Junior will hit the UK ahead of the Veloce. That is a real shame.

I think EV is the way forward, but I will absolutely not buy one outright. EVs should only be leased. Charging is still an issue due to time and available facilities. I have 4 other Alfas (75 V6, 156 V6, Stelvio Q4 and 4C) and these cars are needed to keep me sane on the weekend. I would go insane with just EVs.

I’m a big EV fan and as long as it puts a smile on your face and fun to drive that’s always been important to me. My favourite roads are highland B roads and this looks like it would eat them for breakfast and come back for seconds. A second hand one with a hit of depreciation for a year or two could give a excellent option. Our last two MINI’s currently on the drive we’re factory ordered and with the cost of Cars just getting stupid I think the next moves are nearly new with decent money of what it would be list.

4 lug wheels, fwd ev with city range built on a converted ice platform? Shame as it's a damn fine looking little sporty shaped cuv!
In 3 years or so it'll be half this price or less and a nice little city use bargain relatively speaking.

Just saw this review ... what a joy to watch it, just like your review of the new Mini Countryman. Just wondering, how much differs the Veloce from the standard versions, from a technical perspective. Ok, these versions will not be that fast (6s vs 9s), but is the driving fun more or less the same?

Appreciate the review. I think you are right with Stellantis EV platforms with just over 50kW battery... with that performance, range will be 180miles, not 250. People will drive in ECO mode at 60-65mph.
    • After driving EV's for 12 years, I would say for range and performance parity, you need close to 4 miles per Kilowatt of energy to have reduced range anxiety. So let's say 3.5m/kW - and you need to travel at 70mph for 3hrs before a break is needed on a long-distance trip. So, an optimal battery range at 70mph for 3 hours needs at 3.5m/kW = 210 miles*3.5m/kW = 60kW battery (usable range), plus the 10% we don't go below and the 80% ideal charge capacity. So, an extra 30% is needed for the battery, where we are advised to keep the battery healthy.
    • So, in theory, for a 3-hour motorway journey at 70mph, with aircon, in-car entertainment, hills, the odd boost of power for overtaking etc, another 18kW is needed, making a standard battery 78kW. (Few cars can maintain 3.5m/kW for 3hrs at 70mph...)
    • Of course, this would be a 2.5 tonne car (with lower efficiency). So, 100kW charge? Too slow, if you want continued adoption of these types of vehicles.
    • My current car is a Zoe with only 50kW CCS, and a 52kW battery. I have to ignore the safety limits of 80% charging because my range is 220miles. Charging takes over 1 hour 15mins, and I drive on ECO at 60-65 mph for all long journeys.
    • No one wants to answer these types of comments except to say, we don't do long distances in the UK all the time... our average journey distance is low. But if you only have one car to cover every occasion, what would you choose? And at what price entry point?

To my surprise, the interior of the low spec 156HP pre-production demo vehicle was meh. i think we all hate EV's until we drive one... i was the same, now i drive an ioniq 5 awd 320hp 600nm and its great, more than quick enough, smooth, responsive like nothing else, im not even half considering going back to a normal petrol car, i will actively try to avoid it, in fact the only thing i can think of getting next is the ioniq 5N just because its batshit crazy. ours offers 320hp 0-60 in under 5 seconds and it costs me £3-4 a week for 280miles, the 5N 640hp and will almost certainly be less than £10 a week to charge at home. I really dont see a downside, its not even dead silent like most imagine they are, theres a whine to it when you get on it that is nice, you can hear the motors spin, i like it.
There are some cars coming now that are starting to bring a bit of the fun of old with them, with this junior, no doubt the renault 5 when they drop a hot one, the ioniq 5N... the future is looking pretty spicy.

First things first, much as I dislike small SUV crossover thingy, Milano--I mean Junior is a good-looking thing. I think it's a much more 'Alfa' kind of design than the toe-nail--I mean Tonale. If it drives as good as every media has said (including you, of course), Alfa is on to a winner. Range isn't really a problem if you're using it around town, though I'd probably prefer a hybrid. I'll miss the Giulia QV when it will eventually be discontinued in the future, but if Milano--sorry, Junior is a sign of things to come I wish all the best for Alfa Romeo.

I am certainly not their target market and when we change our EV next year I suspect it will be for Renault Scenic e-Tech (or Enyaq or Elroq or Kia EV3 or....lots more choices than 2 years ago!) but maybe I will say "Sod it, the other options are more sensible & have longer range but the Alfa is more fun"
