Alfa Romeo died in both its engineering philosophy and design philosophy in 1986 when Fiat bought it, so stopped being a marque and became a brand. The following Alfa 155 and so on were based on the Fiat Tempra and just alienated many Italians from the brand. Stellantis is the Luxottica of cars. Formerly independent companies are now brands. When people buy a Jeep, or a Citroen, or a Peugeot, or an Alfa Romeo, or a Fiat, or a Vauxhall/Opel they get the same car. It might have superficial differences from the other brands but it's built from the same parts bin and mechanically the same. It's actually depressing how much competition has gone out of the automotive industry in the last 10 years.

  • @RogerNewsham
    @RogerNewsham 22 дня назад +1

    • The i5N is from a different class, so it is bigger in every direction, performance, and range.
    • After driving EV's for 12 years, I would say for range and performance parity, you need close to 4 miles per Kilowatt of energy to have reduced range anxiety. So let's say 3.5m/kW - you need to travel at 70mph for 3hrs before a break is needed on a long-distance trip. So, an optimal battery range at 70mph for 3 hours needs at 3.5m/kW = 210 miles*3.5m/kW = 60kW battery (usable range), plus the 10% we don't go below and the 80% ideal charge capacity. So, an extra 30% is needed for the battery we are advised to have, to keep the battery healthy.
    • So, in theory, for a 3-hour motorway journey at 70mph, with aircon, in-car entertainment, hills, the odd boost of power for overtaking etc, another 18kW is needed, making a standard battery 78kW. (Few cars can maintain 3.5m/kW for 3hrs at 70mph...)
    • Of course, this would be a 2.5 tonne car (with lower efficiency). So, 100kW charge? Too slow, if you want continued adoption of these types of vehicles.
    • My current car is a Zoe with only 50kW CCS, and a 52kW battery. I have to ignore the safety limits of 80% charging because my range is 220miles. Charging takes over 1 hour 15mins, and I drive on ECO at 60-65 mph for all long journeys.
    • No one wants to answer these types of comments except to say, we don't do long distances in the UK all the time... our average journey distance is low. But if you only have one car to cover every occasion, what would you choose? And at what price entry point?

Great designs and mostly 2-door coupe's and cabrio's.
This 4 door thing is just the next boring "SUV like" transport vehicle. BTW, a "hot hatch" also has just 2 side doors and the "hatch" is the 3rd.
When describing the body style, the hatch is counted as a door, therefore a hatchback with two passenger doors is called a three-door and a hatchback.
"Hot hatch" is when that car had a stronger engine.
With four passenger doors it is called a five-door, or possibly in 2024 a SUV.
That it can go faster around the corner doesn't make it a hot hatch, more a "hot SUV",
And it is not much different than a Volvo EX30 or a Citroën ë-C3.
So what, that it is 2 sec faster from 0-100 than the ë-C3, it is also over €10k more expansive.
When this was a 2-door coupe, yes, that would make it fun, exotic and unique again, but his is just the next 4-door SUV in an endless line of boring 4-door SUVs that fill the streets.

Put the name on the back so everyone can watch from a distance when it goes wrong, being an Alfa who knows what multitude of problems may occur. As Top Gear(OG) covered off on this brand comprehensively many times over.

Nice looking front, interior and red colour but the rest of it is generic Stellantis. Back looks like an EV6. The Veloce is over-priced and the basic one is just a re-skinned e2008/Mokka/Avenger etc.
Veloce will pick up some customers but can’t see this being popular overall - just another very expensive, smallish crossover EV and as it’s Stellantis will drop in price like a stone.

It doesnt matter how fun it is to drive , it has a small battery and slow charging and it has the same power as a standard Smart or Volvo and it costs too much , Stellantis has really pulled the wool over the reviewers eyes with this one .

While the front is well done, looking to the rear I'm spontaneously getting depressed! The front has this aggressive dynamic look while the totally has not. And these rear lights coming downwards over the side is so ugly. It stands totally off the cars design. The ugliness starts with the C pillar all way to the back end.

It's possible to design a BEV without it having to be an SUV. I think it's more to do with large numbers of consumers favouring the SUV/ oversized style. The Junior will sell well, I just hoped that Alfa would have produced something different to the masses. Giulietta/A3 size rather than an ID variant.

🤔The Jeep and Fiat 600e are honestly the weakest platform executions by Stellantis despite how relatively competitive the EV system is. The Afla would be the most turned out (second to the Citroën ëC4) but it's still meh for what degree of AlfaRomeo it could've been...

IMO Alfa's parent company Stellantis does a very bad job of using parts from it's various brands. If you're going to swap parts to save cost, don't put cheap buttons used in a Dodge, and put them in a Maserati Ghibli which starts at over $100k. Take the underpinnings of tested vehicles like the engines and such which the average person won't notice. Also, I think the style of the Junior from the rear door back looks cheap with the door handle that's embeded. It doesn't look like an Alfa Romeo, but a cheap jeep/dodge knockoff.
