Don't use petrol to clean the air filter, it will break down the foam over time also the glue and any rubber if there is on that particular filter. Use Mineral Turpentine instead and then wash out with a weak solution of dishwashing liquid and warm water then rinse, let fully dry before oiling up and installing 🤙
Awesome video guys , great too see a video like that and showing how important the maintenance is after a trip, most people concentrate on pre trip stuff. Great to see the rigs at the Sydney show too 👌👌.
You definitely don't want to be afraid to get wet if you want to clean the underside of your 4WD properly. I recently did just that and I wore a raincoat and safety glasses, as I had to practically lie underneath my 4WD on a creeper to get to all the nooks and crannies. Great post summary of your battle scars from your trip. Loving the channel. Easily my fav. 👍
You can never go wrong with Penrite Oil Best oil on the market. And the 20 w 60 excellent 👌👍 Choice. And the oil sock filter for long trips 👎. Paper The Best.
forward facing snorkel will make them filthy much faster. i have mine forward on the road then flip it backward on the tracks. keeps the filter cleaner for longer.
hey guys, first up a question for Liam.i talked to you at Brisbane 4x4 show and you said you had new set of tyre deflators. what brand are they and did they work well? so another good video. not to much damage for the terrain and miles you covered, the sock on air filter did its job and probably saved you a lot of greif.you put bottles of fluid in new baskets in drawers with the neck and cap on the bottom. turn em with neck up,if the caps come loose you wont empty the bottle like it would the way they sit now.👍👍good job again.
An idea for the fuel setup on the 80. A bigger main tank would be more beneficial as more if the weight is now infront if the rear axle. You can still have a sub tank but go for a flatter, lower capacity one to minimise weight behind the rear axle but increasing your clearance too.
Build a "flex" frame to lift the truck on one side. Basically a ramp that allows you to lift it at a comfortable angle so you can clean things under easier. You can probably get one, but most are meant for car repair, this one would be purposefully built to put the truck just under the tipping range (of course, with a good margin).
You can buy a replacement antenna for the 80 that flexible and about a foot long. I destroyed my electric one too haha. If you're doing more dirt roads than bitumen, you're better off with a paper filter, dirt sticks to the oil filter but falls of paper. The 80 filter looked better and has probably done more kms 😂.
I run thinner oil in my TD, I run 15w/40 normally nulon, it's great. I used to run that 20w/60 but she got a bit ticky on start up and slowly got worse, changed to the 15w/40 and it much better
Patty just a tip with your 1hd-t have a look at doing your big end bearings. I just pulled mine out at 430xxxk and they were F#@ked. 5000k service on time for the last 150000km as well. Easy job and would probably make good content. P.S it's the top shells that cop a flogging. cheap insurance.
What did you replace your lithium battery with? Penrite oil is the best but this time of year I would have gone with 15/40w. 20/60 is good for summer like you said but we are just starting winter. I used to have a uni filter and had two sleeves so I could change one when it got dirty and wash the two of them when I could. How was your fuel economy on the way home with the filter that dirty?
I don’t get the thicker is better mentality with oil, you want it flowing everywhere as fast as possible, as long is it’s not breaking down which modern oils won’t you’re good. V8 Supercars run Bathurst all day in the heat on 5w-30.
that is not damage, i just did half the canning stock route, broke right drivers door regulator, fell into wash out damaged left garud door and kick pnel, broke fuel tank strap and split arb tank, did a radiator hose.
Carry two, cause as you say, it's a visual thing, once dirty rip it off, put clean one on, wash re-lube when convenient to do so. That's my philosophy anyhow.
Just wonder boys how much fuel did yas use in them big rigs cause my old 80 loved the juice all though it was the petrol4.5 i have since got a rodeo cause the fuel was 240 to both tanks was getting old especially only getting like 5 or 6 hundread ks to that but have to admit i miss her but 500 to 50 litres much better anyways could maybe do vid on that to please fellas yes im writing this as i just click onto vid so dont know if yas covered that ps they clean up nice and that dint on ya patrol looks tough think of it this way each time u look at that dint youll remember the mad time u had again top vids from u boys
You got that statement wrong, 'you are struggling to keep up with the big boys', what it should be is that you are 'struggling to keep because of the big boys' is far more accurate. I'll bet your statement about thicker oil is based upon your intuition rather than real data or facts. Multi-grade oil 20W-60 whilst your gauge looks good, is the oil thin enough to be getting around the engine correctly. 60 grade oils if you are supposed to use say 10W-30 is twice as thick. You should always use an oil that is recommended for the engine and not what you think is best because the manufacturer knows way better than you ever will.
Worries me you are putting in 20W-60, I'm not a huge fan of Penrite for engine il, they do make purpose GL4 for diffs and trans which is good, as GL only is hard to get and also should only be used in older vehicles like 80s and GU/GGs, not the GL4/5 that is not the same, Penrite uses more additives than any brand on the market if the newer Synthetics! Penrite GL4 for your trans, and diffs, eg PENRITE PRO GEAR GL4 75W90 2. 5L - PROGL40025, but Engine oil while you may solve one problem you create another, esp with a high mileage engine, the engine oils cant get up to temp as per manufacture specc and you are effectively increasing wear on an older engine! With a Diesel temps are your enemy! Toyota recommend 10W/40 the W is not for weight its the temp eg winter weight, that allows the oil to reach temp at manufacture specc the second number is more to do with temps range it can handle! I run Delo MGX400 15w 40, just did mine after 8 months of hard driving off road and still stable, it was due, but clean not crap in it, plug was clean and have been for years! 20W-60 is a big difference! Just saying you do you, but I would not recommend that or trust a Supercheap person on that! Nothing against the staff they are great and helpful, but oil is cheap, engines are expensive, get the right advice! And maybe look at doing some cooling mods and drop vehicle weight! I use a FMIC on mine AF airbox, bigger multi core rad etc etc. Change your oil filters more regularly! I'm surprised you guys don't take spare air filters with you and Liam have done these things, with al the mods and gear, this is the best thing you can do and its easy to check and clean a pod filter than letting it get into that state, diesels again need to breath, sock or not its stopped it getting into the engine but its choking the performance. I have a Uni Filter as well and I'll clean it on the trip like that, I also carry a back up! It just surprises me cause usually you guys are really on pint on this stuff. I also wouldn't recommend petrol to clean ya filters, it breaks down the material that's protecting your engine from dirt and dust, they aren't cheap filters, mines about $160, use warm soap water and massive it drip, light air comp blow, I use my onboard compressor when on a trip for a light blow dry, lightly oil. I would have thought you lads would have driven through one of those underbody car wash's also for a quick and easy clean at least to break down the crap underneath, we don't have those here real bummer, so I use your method wit the water blaster, usually drive my rig up onto some steel wheel stands I have! Anyways good oil no pun, long trips definitely put allot of crap on the vehicles no matter how good they are, you guys had a great trip, cheers, will keep a keen interest on your oil engineering experiment as well. 🤘 ps, I love the I void warranty sticker on the fridge epic!
Thanks for the comment and info maverick! I've been using the penrite for a while and use it in my diffs and gearbox also! Thanks for the info , wont be using petrol next time! Cheers
@@AussieArvos No worries mate, love both ya trucks and what you guys do, having the same engine as yours, mine has around 350k on it, I'm very fussy about engine oil. I worked in the car industry for awhile and I'm not anti Penrite, there GL 4 imo is as good as Redline from my experience! But re engine, engine oil is cheap! motors are expensive! I never skimp out on quality engine oil and I would rather change it more often than rebuild an engine! Often some engines get a bad wrap, regardless of brand, but reality most times is poor engine oil choices and maintenance and schedules! Understanding how a vehicle use can affect oil. Full Synthetic and quality ones don't break down like older semi or std olis do and often I think people use older standards or mis-understand to oil codes! what oil does and how especially in various engines oil functions into and around the engine at start up, when warm when hot, when used in the city only, vs off roading hard, or towing, city use and short runs infrequently can be as bad as heavy towing, on engine oil and engines, but if the towing vehicle is serviced accordingly will actually have better life than the city engine barley used! Anyways jme, find an oil you trust, not one that's cheap, know your engine! Best you can! I cheers guys, all the best with it. 👍
I think that air filter needed a clean back in QLD 😂
Don't use petrol to clean the air filter, it will break down the foam over time also the glue and any rubber if there is on that particular filter. Thanks mate! Will do that next time!
Done a million dirtbike filters with fuel & never had any dramas but yeah does work a treat
@tombeilby4882 Yeah I did a couple of cleans many years ago too with petrol until I learnt that it's not good for longevity or the materials used.
Just a tip for Liam.I use the foam filters around town and maybe a weekend camp but use paper filters for long trips and bin them when I get back .🙃
Great job on the maintenance boys. Mineral turps to clean those foam air filters
yeah the petrol eats up the glue in the filter joins
Awesome video guys , great too see a video like that and showing how important the maintenance is after a trip, most people concentrate on pre trip stuff. Great to see the rigs at the Sydney show too 👌👌.
I don't use a pressure washer to clean off sand and mud around seals etc. IMO it just forces the particles in further. Chassis rails etc fair game.

Good one boys. This reminds me to re-organise my rear drawers, it's starting to look messy. Excellent ep as always. 👍
Run a uni filter snork head sock. They're great at protecting the airfilter. Cheap as chips and washable
Pat, that fuel tank is just ran in. You should see mine😮😅
Maybe a paintless dent doctor could fix it the door on the patrol.
The 80 scrubs up alright there Paddy. Wondering how long it’ll take Liam to take that door to the panel shop.
Hahaha thanks mate!

Hey mate they are icheckTPMS , they are awesome, we use them heaps, super quick and easy but more importantly accurate!
@@AussieArvos ok those are what i was looking at, so now i know i will get some.and thanks for the reply.😀

Good work, both (esp Liam for cleaning Paddy's car). I guess all the scuffs are just the price to play. Like the clear-top bags etc.
Well done. Considering all that really hard core off roading you guys done in Ur SUVS the damage was minimal.
Great video as usual.
Whitelsea market on Monday, maybe grab some new shorts.🤣🤣🤣

Keen for a future video about the battery system on the patrol. If you go for something different or just modify what you had

I think it might be worth respraying the old 80 in colour-matched raptor coating😉 and grabbing are spare air filter for the Patrol👍
Great video guys. Glad you're back.
Thanks Peter!

Snorkles socks work unreal, just finished the Gibb River Road and main filter still looked new.
Like this so patty knows to get 35s for next trip 😂
Another awesome episode 👏
howed ya rate the yokies in the mud ? i have some and i think they suck . dont clear well at all

Really informative.
I’m interested to hear you thoughts on your canopy. Still loving it?
What about the diff and Tbox oil?
You need a bigger air box buddy lol
Good outcome after that trip. Hows Pats Air on board been handling running the locker ? No problems so far ? . Keep up the great work.
Been absolutely perfect mate! Never missed a beat!!
ya also need some new shorts mate
When you can't see the door scratch because it lines up perfectly with your screen scratch 😂
Ohhh no all damage
This is generally wear and tear
Didn't break shit

❤ just wondering what size fridge you are running
85L !
And Patty's got a 95l
Stoooppp sayin' Dint lol
Don’t run nulon in your TD42. Get castrol or even gulf western is highly recommend by td owners. The nulon stuff doesn’t last at all.
Hello great videos love watching your videos. Can you please do more videos every week.
I would be watching those radius arm mounts on the cruiser prone for cracking
thats a fairly little big dent there alright
I never recommend nulon. Ive used it twice and ended up with excess engine wear and noise twice.
Love it!
What about inside chassis rails..........
ETU 👊💪
Wow that sock was DIRECTLY
Like it 👌
I think it might be time for new shorts 😂
Hi is there a way to send you guys some fan art?
Genuine question, why don’t you go up to 35’s? Great video btw!
👍🏻👍🏻
Time for some new shorts Maybe liam?
When are you going roof top Liam?
Gum boys
😮 put a sprinkler under the car first
Yewww!
A fairly little big dent?🤔
