It's OK, the more content the better; I'd question whether it's the best info or testing as we have a core number of actual owners who are happy to share the ups and downs of ownership.

My Grenadier is kitted with 12v aux battery, READARC Manager 30, Solar, full length roof rack, Rear seat delete replaced with a platform/fridge cave and cubby storage.
The truck has seen extended backcountry use and off road use and I find it to be a phenomenal truck.
It's not missed a beat, tackles all conditions of roads without drama.
I think in today's market it hits the mark.
Your review is very accurate and informative Ronny

I too called Ineos about the fans going off after l turned off the vehicle. I can confirm it's DPF burn off once every 1250km approx for me. I have owned a Trialmaster edition for 1 year now and have absolutely no regrets.

BMW have used electric thermo fans for a long time. The fans and the electric water pump in some models stay on after shutoff to prevent engine damage. They also can have pumps start up prior to first starts when the car is opened in prep for running.

    • @andypearce7479

Agreed, DPF is the answer that I got. bit nerve wracking as encountered at 500km from pickup on the way home. It has also occurred after 1km drive when cold. Now comfortable with this happening.

@@andypearce7479 I was sitting in a shopping centre car park reading a book in Hervey Bay while me wife ran in to get something. A lovely women came over and told me I was destroying the planet sitting there with my engine running unnecessarily and she requested I turn it off. I explained to her the engine was off and even showed her the keys in my hand. I feel she didn't believe me. It sounded like I was spooling up an aircraft engine.

Some years ago when Land Rover announced the end of the Defender Production, my heart sank in sadness for such a loved and iconic car. However my joy was restored when Ineos decided to revive the Defender with the Grenadier, and what a great revival. I've been watching the development of the Grenadier ever since it was announced and I am truly pleased to see how well designed and built it is. Surely there will be a few minor teetthing problems here and there but I feel absolutely confident that Ineos will iron them out all in due time. These kinds of gruelling tests carried out by Ronny proves that the Grenadier will endure well and as comfortably and reassuring as designed to be. Bravo Ineos, job well done.

Dunno why your heart sank. The new Defender improves upon and takes up where the old one left off. It’s far better in every way and better than the Grenadier hands down.

Ronny , i thought this is how the review of the trip would go for you, I don't own Grenadier, however i have watched probably more than my share of ones made in the English language, your knowledge and thoroughness is what made this trip so safe and successful, there is a table available for that door at the back and also an optional auxiliary tank for fuel available, Having the option Rotopack and other diesel can gave you what you needed, that little battery powered fuel pump, they work freaking good i bought one for the same purpose and it sure didn't take long to empty the tank of fuel, 5o litres was only 6 minutes, was sold on it, your next trip will be even better Epic video 👍

Great review Ronny I have ordered a grenadier and these are thing I am ordering for it:
Owl outdoor-Accessoires mounting rail for the UHF
Agile Offroad - Spare Tire Carrier Relocation Bracket
GP Factor - Folding Tailgate Table with Extended Storage Cubby
LeTech - replacement rear ladder that can have 20 Jerry can behind it.
All can be removed when you give it back and no holes need to be drilled.

I love it. My only concern is the small fuel tank, my old '68 Landy had three tanks stock standard, plus jerry cans front and back so I never worried about fuel. But I see that you've found a solution. It seems like a very robust platform. I did a meager test compared to you, but I plan to buy one and put it through its paces ! I really enjoy your reviews because they are so practical. Thanks !!

    Great video.
One thing tho about the foam - I would attach it to that bracket such that it isn't touching the window.
As it is now, that bracket, thru the foam, is putting pressure on the window where before it was not. A good enough jolt and that window could give way.
Just use the foam to protect the window in the event the bracket actually does move enough to contact the window.

    • @Mastr-Tech
      @Mastr-Tech 7 месяцев назад

There no way a little jolt will make the widow give way. It takes a lot of force or a very sharp point to brake the glass.

Trust in Trialmaster....absolutely drove 1400km home via Peak Charles when I picked it up... good dust seals... though they came unstuck in a couple spots, fixed by dealer (400km from home)... now over 5000km in 3 months and yes it's been bogged, bottomed out in a sandy bull dust filled sand track 🙂... of all the 4WDs I've owned and driven for work over the years this one hits the mark.

    • @jerrymyahzcat
      @jerrymyahzcat 6 месяцев назад +2

@@TjinguruIt’s not exactly “designed” that way - it’s an issue with the BMW engine mounted where it is causing this intrusion. Apparently some engine part that gets very hot (700°) is just under that part in the floor and it can’t be moved. I’m guessing they could not mount the engine further left or forward. They say the only way to get rid of it is to use a different engine.

Ronny, I’ve run power directly from the auxiliary battery to an Anderson plug for the fridge on the other side, where you located your fridge. I’ve also added a dc to dc charger connected to an Anderson plug at the rear of the vehicle that I connect a solar blanket to recharge the auxiliary battery. I’ve got a shunt to monitor the auxiliary battery. After 3 days without driving the auxiliary battery was at 72%. I’ve got the 46 litre dometic fridge👍. An arb compressor fits under the rear seat near the auxiliary battery with outlet on the side of the rear seat for easy access. I’ll be putting the rack and 30 litre fuel tank as well. There is also a water tank option if you don’t go down the pantry path. I haven’t done the lift or gone to bigger tyres so I’m very keen to understand whether the gearing works as effectively with the bigger tyres and what the fuel consumption was after the change. I’ve gone for the petrol engine trialmaster with bull bar and side steps which is a gem to drive, but not good on fuel. I also went for the 2 tone leather heated seats which are bloody awesome. I don’t care if they are impractical 😀

Just back from 2800km trip to Kennedy Range, Gascoyne region, Western Australia, including the loop track anti-clockwise. My grenny went very well, through countless gnarly rocky washouts, sheep station deep-sand country with one side running down creek beds at 10-15 degree attitude. Used 20psi. Didn’t need diff locks and only once needed low range. Had a similar noisy thermo-fan and/or DPF burn off at Wooramel River camp, disturbing the peace and quiet for 10 mins after an 815km journey. I disowned the car until it stopped - it was embarrassingly loud!

It not only works well as a table, but also for extra storage, as it has a grid you can strap stuff too, that ends up facing downwards whenn the table is in use. I got a light bar from black sheep that sits in front of the skly lights , so no with glare. .

Well done Ronny, another great review, I spotted you’d bought the rear ladder with the Jerry can holder 😉. I’m going to get one of those myself. I ended up going for 33”’s on mine as the price was so good I was able to get a second set of wheels for the same price as just the 34” tyres. By the way AUTEL make TPMS sensors which can be cloned to the vehicle so you can have a second set of wheels and still use TPMS. Way cheaper than the factory ones. I have had the Thermo fans going after stopping too, it’s the DPF burn. Wading mode is supposed to turn that off by the way, but I don't know if it would do it mid burn. One thing to watch out for in the desert: There’s a tiny pin that holds the transfer case gear lever knob in place, they are known to pop out, its located right where your finger goes under the round ball. Familiarise yourself with the removal and replacement procedure before you go, it’s on the INEOS forum. Or put some tape over it or hot glue it in as I did. If it happens in the middle of a desert trip with no internet you’ll be pissed as it’s a bit of a head scratcher putting it back in. Mined been fine since I glued it.

A lot of modern turbo engines (diesel and petrol) have a kind of cool down cycle that they can go into. They usually have a small electric water pump built into the cooling system which continues to circulate coolant through the turbo and around the engine with the rad fans running. My I20N does it if I don't give it enough "turbo time" before I shut it off, especially after a long highway stint or after having some "fun".

Same here, best real world review I have seen. Being in the UK it was interesting to hear your view on the left foot space, that near ironing board size platform still feels like a miss and hopefully something the Gen2 will fix.
On the road I’ve heard the steering is (more suited to off road) slow to return to centre, so it takes more effort than you would expect.

Good review. Nice to see the Grenadier being put through the paces for what it was intended.
It seems to be a well thought out vehicle for a first year right off the "drawing board" design. I think it will only get better as it gets more use and exposure. I think there should be an option for an interior mounting system for a radio and mic, cell phone and ipad screen. Given the aircraft style dash layout I think it would be easy to integrate this as a factory option. There are aftermarket options, but usually require drilling into the dash to mount.

The cooling fan thing is a common feature in many cars I think... Almost all vehicles I have driven, specially with German engines, keep the fans running for a while after a long trip in summer conditions. A trick to avoid too much fan noise after the trip is to turn the AC off a few km before you get to the parking.

Interesting points, Ronny. The vehicle seems pretty stout, but not without issues. However, every vehicle, no matter who makes it, has its issues. I love my truck more than I love most relatives, but it is not lacking in the short-comings department. But, with that being said, I am impressed on the lack of issues this vehicle is having, being that its essentially brand new to the market. As time goes on, there will be issues come up with this platform. But, so far, it seems promising. And to add, it seems to be ridiculously capable right out of the box. Moreso than most vehicles. Maybe that has something to do with the live front axle and half-decent articulation from factory. Either way, I am enjoying being able to tag along this journey through your videos. Love your channel!

I have the ineos rear door table and it’s good but there are some aftermarket ones that have an additional slide out now and if I was retrofitting I would probably get one of those. Great review! The left hand steering ones doesn’t have the issue with the foot well. Love mine, so much I already have my second one on order. Gonna get a ethanol converted gasoline for tax reasons.

Take a look at Bison Gear for the rear door table and a useful cargo shelf. I think it will work well with your setup.

The helicopter mode is actually a diesel exhaust particulate incinerator that switches on when the engine decides it needs to dump its particulate load.
It’s quite disconcerting the first time it does it (normally after a long drive).
It’s never given me concern as I know the engine designers took this into account.
Also, as I always carry a booster pack, I’ll still be able to start the engine.
On another point, do you realise there are two auxiliary wires in the footwells that you can utilise (switches 1 & 2 on the ceiling panel, I think), as well as two in the engine bay?
There are good instructions on the Grenadier forum that guide you through accessing these.

Is that a Le Tech ladder (9:00) you have fitted after your trip? Do you hold a 20L water tank in that location now instead of inside?

Looks awesome Ronny! I see you’ve already fitted a new rear ladder with a Jerry Can holder. You should throw the new Brown Davis tank in and then you’ll have no range issues.

I laughed at the fan not going off thing because as a BMW enthusiast, we know that’s the design all the way from the most noticeable implementation of that in the N55.
I see how it can be unnerving. Welcome to BMW quirks 😀.

very interesting video Ronny ' on the thermo fans run on ... was there or is there a light in the dash to tell you the car was doing a dpf clean so you are not shutting down the engine and walking away from the vehicle ?

Hit kaon up for that rear table on the door panel. If you need a bigger table see if you can slot a table between the roof rails like your mate F2F in that green Prado. Do you know if the car accessory batteries are able to become unparalleled?

At 9:10, the red/orange wrapped Road Safety Kit situated in the rear door, contains a first aid kit, a warning triangle (Global Spec), and high-visibility safety vest, may extend to a 1 kg fire extinguisher. The 'Plus 'version duplicates the safety triangle and vest item. Best the items be left on board for unexpected breakdown and crash scenes.

Hi Ronnie, 4.34 when refilling, can the bracket holding on your auxiliary tank nearest the passenger door be removed so that after attaching the nosel when upright, you could swing the tank sprout down and gravity feed the vehicle tank? Just an idea, 👍

I really enjoy watching this car.
Would love to see if they take your review seriously and fix the issues in a new model. Id buy one, but im 6’5 and when i was confronted with the footwell issue, it was a hard no. Would love to see you buy and modify it properly with kitchen. It’s also screaming for a RTT.
Everyone does the Landcruisers and Prados, they’re good, but it’s getting old. New content is good content 👍

My prado has the 12v plug in a similar spot on the other side. I hate how much the plug sticks out. Haven't been able to find a low profile plug option. It'll be less of an option once I add a battery box.

Ineos make a table for the rear door. On heavy corrugations with the hinge folded the elbow rattles against the table so table needs small foam or rubber pad on each side.

@Ronnie, how would you rate the performace of this vehicle w.r.t. the suspension handling the rough corrugations and the NVH inside in those conditions? How does it compare to other high end vehicles ?
