I reckon it looks good. Certainly very well made. I reckon you need a Donaldson rubber vacuator drain in the bottom of the airbox because as good as those Safari Armax heads are of ejecting rainwater they will still let some water through into the filter housing & that needs a place to drain to & out. I was recently in my VDJ79R airbox with Safari Armax snorkel & you could see where rainwater (could have been from hose washing the car too) had run into it through the dust in the intake tract.
Looks great! I made my own stainless seamless snorkel not long ago (I have a full heavy diesel workshop and light fabrication tools at my disposal) and the amount of work that goes into it is mental! The good workmanship speak volumes!
Only minutes into this video and already excited, hate stainless snorkels but only because of the head. Ive been wanting for years the exact design you're going with to start becoming the new mainstream!
Finished video, love it. The only change id have gone with is the Raptor coat or similar, so it had the same finish as the Snorkle head. But still love her!
We use a flat panel unifilter in our 200 and it stops even the finest dust. Carry a spare set of foam for when you need to change out if in dusty conditions and we use Penrite foam filter oil in a spray can after a clean. That is a nice job he did it looks mint.
forward facing snorkels dont restrict the motor at all and offer a very mild ram air effect. barely noticable for your day to day driving. but they also collect more dust, bugs and tree litter(from 4wding out bush). last filter i swapped out on mine was chocked with dust and had twigs and leaves from my camping trips. i have since switched my snorkel to rear facing just to keep the filter cleaner for longer. those riv nuts are an awesome thing to add to the tool box. can get them from bunnings at a decent price. love them.
You've got my vote. I've been running a stainless 4" with a ram head on my GU for a few of years now. Looks great and works really well. Great workmanship in the build.
Donaldson cyclonic clear bowl pre filters work heaps better. Just make sure you buy the correct size for your engines max. RPM CFM airflow or they won't work properly.
That looks beautiful. I think a more bling stainless finish would have looked out of place on the patrol. Good choice. You've helped me make up my mind - plastic all the way with the long, front mount arrangement to minimise the noise. I do not want extra noise!
I actually got to have a sneak peak at the snorkel between the powder coat and install, Jeff is a good bloke, he custom made mine to fit around the other mods that I have. Highly recommend to anyone in Vic looking for a good priced staino
Air-Ram Snorkel heads are the best of both worlds. They have retro-style and are functional. In situations where you want to reduce particulate ingress, you can add a sock or rotate the snorkel backwards.
When you start this sort of project the important thing to remember is it’s for you to enjoy and at the end of the day that’s all that matters but yes you have turned an old machine in to a great looking go anywhere rig well done 👍🏻
I think that snorkel is perfect! I normally prefer Safari style for the ram and have always not been a fan of stainless but this is absolutely the best design I've seen. Perfect blend of tech. Cheers Steve
Looks absolutely mint, went pretty much same with my GQ custom from Millweld. Short entry looks heaps better and makes more sense. . Just watch the rain had a heap in mine with a killer storm, wind musta been in perfect direction all night and filled right up, that was with ram head too. Do have a drain on bottom of airbox but was closed damitt. .
Rate it man! Always liked the staino snorkels but hated the rear entry! Never put two and two together like you have but looks like it belongs! Awesome build and i think the rest of the comments section agrees!
gud choice with the uni filters lads. i run the uni in my f150 n my f250. just use the right cleaning agent n oil n u will get years of service from the uni. looks n sounds cool n Jeffs work is awesome. nice all round.
love it mate, good on ya for keeping it “your” build, if someone doesn’t agree with your mods then they can only try build their patrol as nice as yours
as a HVAC engineer (and motorbike rider) .. ram air is a "thing" but check out the motorbikes etc.. its all very direct to much smaller engines.. without doing the calcs doubt you are going to get much benefit from the air pushing in on a big capacity engine with small inlet and lower speeds (really only works at higher speeds etc).. but the SS will no doubt sound a bit better!! look after the engine it will look after you.
I actually love it , I love the stainless snorkel but like you said they bloody to noisy but I like the way yours is and I think I might get it for future 4wd that for sure !
Hi. I think this looks great. More importantly though it's what you want and was made by someone who's clearly very good at their job and has made a great quality piece that should last a very long time. Well done you. Well done Jeff.
Mate your car is coming along bloody beautiful it looks great 👍 I'm amazed Ford fit a snorkel that leaks water into the filter that's not good for a deap water crossing and they been making cars for over 100 years and they should know better by now 😢
love the ram head stainos, definitely the best performing and I think best looking as well, particularly on the older squarer 4wds. I don't get why more people don't run them.
Looks good. I like it with the ram head. Great workmanship by Jeff. Those recovery points will look like bananas the 1st time you use them in a heavy recovery. Cheers
Good job n vid, the snorkel looks great & u made a lot of good choices with the uni air filter & breathers as well. I like the ram air look, with the added ability to turn it 180 if u want in hi dust or rain situations. Agree with ur take on the sound issues too. Cheers
Great job and looks perfect when the job is done like that it is worth the price. My only concern is (it's a general drilling concern, not just the way he drilled it) what happens to the metal filings that the drill cuts through inside the pillar, My thoughts are they fall down to the lowest point and start to rust the frame over time. Be nice if it was possible to stop metal cutting from falling in unreachable places where they just rust away over time.
I’d prefer the look of that over anything else - suits the build, done well!! Looking forward to seeing a some videos on the tracks with Patrick’s 80. Won’t be caught up on them spring hangers anymore haha.
Spray ya alternator and starter motor with water inhibitor before ya dunk it, maybe a bit of sealant on the lower side of the bellhousing/clutch leaver to save ya clutch.
Great to see someone who really takes pride in their work and knows what they are doing.👍
Good thinking with the ram head really sets off the old school look of the patrol and makes it unique loved this build series!
Looks killer 👌👌
I think it looks rad, Jeff is a true craftsmen, you can really see how much pride he takes in his work.
The snorkel looks sick
I like the ram head style over the backward facing open style. Added bonus with yours is that it can be rear facing in 30 seconds with a screwdriver.
Your rig your rules mate. Nice work and great to see using local tradies too
Honestly looks damn good, kind of hoping to see a full ebay 12v masterclass on this build at some point
12V setup soon to come!
Great to see support a local company and keep Aus small business growing. A credit to all involved.
I reckon it looks good. Certainly very well made. I reckon you need a Donaldson rubber vacuator drain in the bottom of the airbox because as good as those Safari Armax heads are of ejecting rainwater they will still let some water through into the filter housing & that needs a place to drain to & out. Thanks dusty! I'll keep an eye on it and can always add a drain in the future!
Love it mate.
Good tough look, prefer ran head than rear entry.
What I wanted to do on my old GQ.
Yeah, every time I see a rear entry stainless one, it just kind of looks 'unfinished', like they got it functional and then just left it.
Very sensible and practical reasons for your choice of snorkel style. It suits your GQ well. Another top notch episode. 👍
You have absolutely nailed it with this snorkel. Traditional style ram head on a modern intake tube...love it. Well done😊
Jeff did my snorkel and air box on my ranger, his work is truly amazing!!
Snorkel looks absolutely mint boys!! Well done! Rig is really coming together
I actually dont mind it. Really does suit the look of the ute. Jeff did a great job, good to see someone take pride in their work.
Looks great! I made my own stainless seamless snorkel not long ago (I have a full heavy diesel workshop and light fabrication tools at my disposal) and the amount of work that goes into it is mental! The good workmanship speak volumes!
Looks great, think you've achieved the style you were aiming for.
But still love her!

those riv nuts are an awesome thing to add to the tool box. can get them from bunnings at a decent price. love them.
The patrol looks beautiful in person, should be happy with the result with all the work put into it 👍
I did the same with the snorkel on my 95 series Prado. Works a treat.
You've got my vote. I've been running a stainless 4" with a ram head on my GU for a few of years now. Looks great and works really well.
Great workmanship in the build.
Looks great. Get the pre filter for the head as well if you decide to do some dusty tracks.
Donaldson cyclonic clear bowl pre filters work heaps better. Just make sure you buy the correct size for your engines max. RPM CFM airflow or they won't work properly.
@@dustyfarmer110% correct!
I like that you are making the decisions for your truck Looks great.
Southdown snorkels in the UK have been doing what you've had built for years and they are just so cool.😎
That looks beautiful. I think a more bling stainless finish would have looked out of place on the patrol. Good choice.
You've helped me make up my mind - plastic all the way with the long, front mount arrangement to minimise the noise. I do not want extra noise!
Looks good mate, I agree with the old school look with the new school tech. Tuff Ute, love the build
Love watching skilled people doing great work. Steve
Looks good. I have actually been looking to do the same on my old cruiser.
Great job, great car! Love your genuine enthusiasm young fella. You and your brother make me feel this country is in good hands. 🙏👍
I actually got to have a sneak peak at the snorkel between the powder coat and install, Jeff is a good bloke, he custom made mine to fit around the other mods that I have. Highly recommend to anyone in Vic looking for a good priced staino
Looks great mate. Dont think there will be many haters with that mint job 👌
Mate, it's your ute so do what makes you happy. If it was me, I would be very happy with that snorkel. Best of both worlds .
I LOL when he described his first snorkel....looks awesome...I want one now!!!!!
awesome diff breather kit and recovery points!
Air-Ram Snorkel heads are the best of both worlds.
They have retro-style and are functional.
In situations where you want to reduce particulate ingress, you can add a sock or rotate the snorkel backwards.
Those ram heads work best ejecting dust facing forward. Reverse them in falling snow so they don't clog up or suck plenty in turning to it water.
When you start this sort of project the important thing to remember is it’s for you to enjoy and at the end of the day that’s all that matters but yes you have turned an old machine in to a great looking go anywhere rig well done 👍🏻
Love it mate. I think the snorkel is the best of both worlds myself. Looks cool but still has the benefit of the safari head.
I think that snorkel is perfect! I normally prefer Safari style for the ram and have always not been a fan of stainless but this is absolutely the best design I've seen. Perfect blend of tech. Cheers Steve
That's really nice Cobra snorkel! JEF FAB is brilliant! Good people are always on eastern side!
Nice, looks good 👌
Aside from styling preference, the ram head also does a great job of keeping rain out of intake too.
Was a big reason why I went with the ram head!
You guys could literally run these videos as tv shows
Love how practical you are mate that and the not caring what anyone else thinks love it keep posting these awesome modifications man good job
As someone who runs a safari style snorkel on a tuned patrol with great results and not a big fan of stainless ones at all i don't mind this!!!!
The snorkel looks great, fantastic fabrication work, you should be very proud of the build so far. 👍
Saw the patrol at the 4x4 show yesterday, whole car looks sick but the snorkel isn’t for me, but over all you’ve done well 🤙
Some quality craftsmanship right there. Looks spot on.
Doesn't matter what people think, as long as you like it, that's all that matters
Love the look. When I take the plunge will consider this option as am not a fan of the other stainless options.
Looks absolutely mint, went pretty much same with my GQ custom from Millweld. Short entry looks heaps better and makes more sense. . Just watch the rain had a heap in mine with a killer storm, wind musta been in perfect direction all night and filled right up, that was with ram head too. Rate it man! Always liked the staino snorkels but hated the rear entry! Never put two and two together like you have but looks like it belongs! Awesome build and i think the rest of the comments section agrees!
Job done right. No water getting in there . Awesome job JefFab.
Much prefer the ram head type over the stainless look. Most ppl i know regret a loud stainless after awhile
What you have done to the patrol is amazing man it’s coming up a treat.
What you like is all that counts.
That's about as good as a GQ airbox and snorkel setup gets.
Function over form. Even the form is mint. Powder coating makes it!
gud choice with the uni filters lads. i run the uni in my f150 n my f250. just use the right cleaning agent n oil n u will get years of service from the uni. looks n sounds cool n Jeffs work is awesome. nice all round.
love it mate, good on ya for keeping it “your” build, if someone doesn’t agree with your mods then they can only try build their patrol as nice as yours
AMEN!!!
Looks better than most stainos out there, also won't get rain down it when its parked.
ram head with staino looks great, good combo with benefits of both. Great work by Jeff!
as a HVAC engineer (and motorbike rider) .. ram air is a "thing" but check out the motorbikes etc.. its all very direct to much smaller engines.. without doing the calcs doubt you are going to get much benefit from the air pushing in on a big capacity engine with small inlet and lower speeds (really only works at higher speeds etc).. but the SS will no doubt sound a bit better!! look after the engine it will look after you.
I actually love it , I love the stainless snorkel but like you said they bloody to noisy but I like the way yours is and I think I might get it for future 4wd that for sure !
I like it, I'll be getting Jeff to do mine as well...
Looks good sounds great. It's more of a deep growl then anything else.
Love the hybrid snorkel. Best of both worlds.
Your rig is now looking as "sharp as a rat with a silver tooth" well done , it is always great when all the work comes together
Love Aussie Arvo ep"s. Real. You've done nice work on this build. Credit to yourself and those around you
The tube steel on "tray" or bed would look sick painted black so it could matching the front bumper. Still a nice truck.
Love the snorkel. Wish I knew that could be done, I would have done the same
i like it mate. I like the ram head as apposed to the straight out square end you see others have with the stainless snorkels
Hi. I think this looks great. More importantly though it's what you want and was made by someone who's clearly very good at their job and has made a great quality piece that should last a very long time. Well done you. Well done Jeff.

Top work! Also, always good to support your local shops.
This patrol is like a modern look on an old farm truck/ute looks sick!
This is the perfect way a snorkel should look
Mate, glad you just did what you wanted. Makes it unique.
The vibe is perfect, old school with new school. Love it
love the ram head stainos, definitely the best performing and I think best looking as well, particularly on the older squarer 4wds. I don't get why more people don't run them.
I agree. A snorkel should look like a snorkel and have a ram head.
Looks good. I like it with the ram head. Great workmanship by Jeff.
Those recovery points will look like bananas the 1st time you use them in a heavy recovery.
Cheers
Finally some people having common sense that these days I can’t stand these bonnet entry snorkels and twin stainless crap
Good job n vid, the snorkel looks great & u made a lot of good choices with the uni air filter & breathers as well. I like the ram air look, with the added ability to turn it 180 if u want in hi dust or rain situations.
Agree with ur take on the sound issues too. Cheers
Looks mint. Suits it’s style even better seeing it in person today. Love this Gq and makes me want to buy one 😊
I love it combining new and old together looks mint
Absolutely amazing snorkel...never seen or heard of something better
Looks great! Maybe you could raptor cost the snorkel to match that rough, gritty look of the plastic ram head?
Definitely the right choice, modern airflow with old school look.
Beautiful GQ
Great job and looks perfect when the job is done like that it is worth the price. My only concern is (it's a general drilling concern, not just the way he drilled it) what happens to the metal filings that the drill cuts through inside the pillar, My thoughts are they fall down to the lowest point and start to rust the frame over time. I’d prefer the look of that over anything else - suits the build, done well!! Looking forward to seeing a some videos on the tracks with Patrick’s 80. Won’t be caught up on them spring hangers anymore haha.
The ram head looks sweet mate , its angle matches the bottom angle really well 👌
Looks and sounds awesome. Who cares what other people think, its what you want that counts..Enjoy
Greetings from the United States beautiful work brother.
Mate I'm going the other way with mine all stainless with the intake facing across the roof but I reckon yours looks sweet!
Spray ya alternator and starter motor with water inhibitor before ya dunk it, maybe a bit of sealant on the lower side of the bellhousing/clutch leaver to save ya clutch.
Ram head looks great and will also help with forced induction when cruising
At the end of the day it's your vehicle, so who gives a shit what other people think as long as you like it.
I think the snorkel looks mint.
Im not a staino fam but this looks really good. Hell of an improvement
I got a jef-fab 2 years ago he does a sick job
Hate it? Nooooo it looks and sounds amazing! Great choice! Love it. 👌👌👌
