      Written in Sausalito (across the bay from SF), just before he went to Monterey Pop, and then died in a plane crash almost immediately after that classic event. A stunning piece of work.

    Hey there! Glad you liked the song. Otis is iconic. If you want to take it a step further, google "Pretty in Pink try a little tenderness". It's a scene from the movie with one of the greatest lipsync/dance routines ever. You don't have to watch the whole movie to enjoy the clip. Been busy the past week so I'm only now catching up on your posts. Just watched you review Joni. Big thumbs up! So many more to watch, so little time.

    Such a great song! I was reminded of a film from the 90's I think you would like Daniel. If you have some down time watch the movie "The Commitments"....a whole lot of great music, fun, and Irish soul musicians. The guy in the film who sings "Try a Little Tenderness" does a good job and was 16 at the time.

    • @sjw5797
      @sjw5797 4 года назад

      The Commitment's version is *better*, I swear! Andrew Strong is fabulous, and then you got the female background singers going "ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-yeah!" I got both The Commitment's albums, and life wouldn't be the same without them. It's too bad they were never a real group!

    One of the great joys of this song is when drummer Al Jackson Jr. comes in hitting the side of his drum in DOUBLE time to the melody. I watch you go from the easy beat to double timing it to Jackson's beat very quickly. And when the song finally gets to Jackson's pace.....whoo eeeee!

    Otis always makes me think of my dad, he loved him. Like all his songs are classics, I think you'd probably like 'I've Been Loving You Too Long' and 'Sitting On the Dock of the Bay'. This is a good path of music also, just a few (of many possible) suggestions Temptations, The Drifters, and Gladys Knight and the Pips.

    Soul is a great genre. Otis was a true star. And if you ever do Ray Charles, try "You Don't Know Me", the video marked (Live 1964). It wipes me out every time. It's about one of life's small tragedies: when you fall in love with someone who just thinks of you as a friend, and they have no idea how you feel.

    I love the journey you are taking. Hope you grow to understand the importance of music in the evolution of our country. Understand the difference between Motown and Stax - one black owned but wanting to make black artists smoother and more "acceptable" to white audiences. Stax - owned by a white couple who started in coutry music, but then produced music performed by integrated groups....but the public assumed was, uh, more true to the black music of the time. Sun records gets all the credit in Memphis, but it was Stax that made a larger social difference. Also, you are probably learning about Woodstock - check out Wattstax.
