The live version has a much more powerful impact. Ten times more. The visual of the band, the sheer size, the instrument utilization, and then Eric. The lead singer, ambling towards the microphone, with a casual confidence and performance that made the video unique. And carrying (reportedly) a side pouch on him containing his "enhancements". And he was the white lead singer in an incredibly diverse multicultural band. And you know what? Nobody cared. If you don't cover the video, Daniel, at least take a few minutes and watch it on your own. Also just finished the Dayton King interview. It's an hour well-spent. Highly recommend.
You can't help but start moving as soon as you hear this song! Still listening in 2024😊 we should have the song playing on loudspeakers throughout the country😅 can you imagine seeing people dancing in the streets to this song!🎉
This made me think of other iconic music that came out when I was in high school. For some reason, "Little Green Bag" was the first thing that popped into my mind. Please check it out if you haven't already. Very awesome song.
Plenty of GREAT stuff by War, try "Slippin into Darkness", "The World is a Ghetto", "Cisco Kid", "Baby Brother" (live version from the All Day Music album) among MANY others. One of mt favs is an instrumental called "Nappy Head"
Either I'm tripping from the song or things look different with you and your set up! I do love this tune. I was a kid and had no idea what was going on but I dug the music! So cool!
About 2 dozen years ago, Eric B was booked to perform at a 'Beaverton Days' parking lot show. I knew the lady who produced the event; she had to fetch Eric from the hospital
Always listen to the studio version as your first listen. *There are a few exceptions where are a particular live performance has become the definitive version... such as Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry/People Get Ready", or Bob Seger's "Travelin' Man/Beautiful Loser"... but those are few and far between.
I’d like to make a suggestion The emotion of Alvin Lee’s guitar is to me compared to the emotions of Elvis Presley singing His group was Ten Years After - The Bluest Blues
War had a series of hits after this song my favorite is probably “The Cisco Kid” but there others just as good. War was all about the feel and the groove. Eric Burden was only with them for a short while, some crazy stuff from that period. This song was very popular, nobody really knew what it was about but so extremely groovy with a conversational lyric and the leaping gnome vocal. The live “Beat Club” is fantastic, definitely check that out or do another reaction. Great reaction. Thanks.
I've always understood that spill the wine, dig that pearl as a reference to heroin use. Someone injecting spills some blood - wine, and then digs the pearl - of the orient. Heroin.
Daniel, I see you're getting a spammer in the comments section. I'm seeing more of this on YT, but don't know and won't find out what its about. Just sending a heads up at you. Be careful. As far as War goes, if you want a deep cut instrumental that no one else will recommend from them, give "City, Country, City" a listen [there are 2 versions 7:21 and 13:20]. I saw Eric Burdon at the HOB many years perform "Spill the Wine" and many Animals songs and the now Low Rider band [comprised of all but one of War's original members] at a free concert on Bayou St John in New Orleans about 5 years back and the vocalist/guitarist stated that City, Country, City was his favorite song by them too.
You and me both.MissAstorDancer. I too been thinking about Daniel and wondering if he’s feeling okay. No Live Stream in 4 weeks for us Legion.✌ I wonder if this serious video he mentioned may be about why he’s been inactive not uploading videos. Plus I hope nothing awful happened personally. Have a nice evening. 🌕🌙
Check out Low Rider by War. And of course, check out Burdon's most famous band The Animals. Try long version of Sky Pilot. See what kids your age were dealing with in late 60's.
This is Mexican LoHi music. It’s good for you. Psychedelic music was Hendrix, Sgt. Pepper, Jefferson Airplane, CTA, evolving into Grateful Dead kind of stuff. Imo
Tool? Psychedelic? Nooo . At least, not what we thought of as psychedelic back then. The Doors, The Moody Blues, Iron Butterfly, Jimi Hendrix (especially, Are You Experienced), Country Joe and the Fish….some of The Grateful Dead…certainly Pink Floyd. It was music that lent itself to a good stone. Nothing terribly hard or frenetic…that could bring on a “bad trip”. Could make you paranoid. You didn’t want “jittery” music…that could freak you out. I cannot even imagine listening to Tool stoned……except maybe Pneuma or Parabol. But maybe young folk do these days. We sure didn’t.
I was not very clear with my language here, I didn't really mean the music, I was thinking of Tool's associated visuals in their videos and artwork. It was a bad example that doesn't make much sense in hindsight heh.. Anyways, Spill the Wine is an amazing song.
You should check out "The Hall of the Mountain King". It is one of the GREATEST and FUNKIEST pieces of CLASSICAL music you will ever hear...(.In fact you probably have heard part of it before, and not know it.)..This piece as well as the opening movement from Edvard Grieg's, Peer Gynt Suite," Morning" have been used countless times in TV commercials. ENJOY
Have done any Sly & the Family Stone? Like War they were great influencers of this type of music at that time.’ Thank You ‘, ‘I Want To Get You Higher’, which Ike & Tina Turner do, also, and ‘Everyday People are my favorites.
Ah, Eric Burdon, lots of good stuff by him, not only Hose of the Rising Sun. He did a lot of good stuff, recommend the longer suite New York 1936 America 1968 or Sky Pilot.
So refreshing to see someone of your generation appreciating music of mine.
Would really love you to do a reaction to the LIVE version !!
The energy and performance is well worth a second look.
War has a gift for turning simple songs into hits.
Always loved this song solid band

Great band War with or without Eric Burdon. "Slippin into Darkness" is a good one.
Another great track by WAR is ,"Slippin Into Darkness"...
Highly, highly recommend it, for an incredible groove...
You can't help but start moving as soon as you hear this song! Still listening in 2024😊 we should have the song playing on loudspeakers throughout the country😅 can you imagine seeing people dancing in the streets to this song!🎉
War is great. "Low Rider," "Why Can't We Be Friends," "Cisco Kid," "Summer"
I see I'm going to be listening to a lot of War now. Thanks!
Oh my God I was in the car yesterday and I played lowrider and thought of Daniel
Forgot about Cisco Kid! Gotta look that one up, it's been decades since I heard it last.
I haven't heard this in ages. Such an unusual song, especially singing it to the transistor radio when you're ten 😂
Or 18! 🤗
'The fact that me, an overfed, long haired, leaping gnome should be the star of a Hollywood movie...but there I was"
A great WAR track that I love is " the World is a Ghetto ". The album version over the single for the long,
hypnotic instrumental section. ✌
To give up on 'The Colour Of Spring' with just two tracks left is criminal. It's your loss Daniel!
I remember hearing this when it first came out and the Latin rhythm really stuck with me. Great song!
The first time i got off the coach with my headset and danced the whole song and sang it word for word! You are a great reactor Daniel❣
Hello Linda, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?
I would definitely watch longer reaction videos from you!
This made me think of other iconic music that came out when I was in high school. For some reason, "Little Green Bag" was the first thing that popped into my mind. Please check it out if you haven't already. Very awesome song.
I'm not sure how I miss this one but I am certainly glad I found it now excellent tune!
You have a facility for reactions.
Good luck with your musical career!
Back again! One of the most weirdly cool songs of the last 50 years. Eric Burdon man? What can you say?
I heard this while on my first LSD trip
Another one of their songs that I love is “Tobacco Road”.
Plenty of GREAT stuff by War, try "Slippin into Darkness", "The World is a Ghetto", "Cisco Kid", "Baby Brother" (live version from the All Day Music album) among MANY others. One of mt favs is an instrumental called "Nappy Head"

Hello Cheryl, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?
About 2 dozen years ago, Eric B was booked to perform at a 'Beaverton Days' parking lot show. I knew the lady who produced the event; she had to fetch Eric from the hospital
Looking forward to more!
Hello Stella, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?
This reminds me of what it was like to listen to AM radio when I was just a kid, when every Top 40 song was a masterpiece. Those were the days!
OMG. This song.
Love the lyric: long-haired-leapingnome…
Next song to check out : Miracles, by Jefferson Starship.
Griegs Hall Of the Mountain King is one of my favorite classic pieces. Spill the Wine always such a good song )

I don't usually say this, but MORE WAR PLEASE! :) Slippin into Darkness is my fave, but Cisco Kid, World is a Ghetto...can't go too far wrong
Thank you Daniel for the Great music and for your time that you give everyone. They forgot to say tall one. LOL
Hello Darcy, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?
Heard this many times on the radio
I’d like to make a suggestion
The emotion of Alvin Lee’s guitar is to me compared to the emotions of Elvis Presley singing

acid was in the air, and the parks.thank you
I've always understood that spill the wine, dig that pearl as a reference to heroin use. Someone injecting spills some blood - wine, and then digs the pearl - of the orient. Heroin.
Eric was the singer with the English group The Animals.
REALLY?
Some people also think the spill the wine part means to take her virginity.
I read years ago someone say that the spill the wine take that the pearl was her offering her virginity.
Hello Gary, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?

I think the word you are looking for is trippy.
it's a declaration of War
FIRST! Hee Hee!
I've been thinking about you and missing your posts!
I was sixteen, going on 17, when this song hit the radio!

Great reaction! This was fun! ❤
"Trippy" to me is more like the Beatles white album, grateful dead, Brian Eno, Tom Tom club, etc.
Check out Low Rider by War. And of course, check out Burdon's most famous band The Animals. Try long version of Sky Pilot. See what kids your age were dealing with in late 60's.
The live version is a must.
This is Mexican LoHi music. It’s good for you.
Psychedelic music was Hendrix, Sgt. Pepper, Jefferson Airplane, CTA, evolving into Grateful Dead kind of stuff. Imo
PS. Subscribed. 🤪
They did some really good stuff - Lowrider is a good vibe
Hello Mary, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?
My fave by War is Why Can't We Be Friends!!!! Try that if you have time!
Hello Jolly, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?
Try Rod Stewart's "Every Picture Tells a Story"! You can hear how much fun the band was having during recording, kinda like this. 😁
Hello Joan, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus??
I believe you do have a war LP...
Why can't we be friends...
Great song! And I love reaction.
Eric Burdon had several songs with War. I remember this song. While it may not be psychedelic, there were some far out lyrics and drug references.
I saw Eric Burden and the Animals and they did this song
They were so good and beyond much of what was happening then.

The cover of this song by 2nu is even better.
Great tune, react to more War. BTW, Tool is not psychedelic in the historical musical sense. Like them a lot, though.
Have done any Sly & the Family Stone? Like War they were great influencers of this type of music at that time.’ Thank You ‘, ‘I Want To Get You Higher’, which Ike & Tina Turner do, also, and ‘Everyday People are my favorites.
Please please please see the live one
Ah, Eric Burdon, lots of good stuff by him, not only Hose of the Rising Sun.
He did a lot of good stuff, recommend the longer suite New York 1936 America 1968
or Sky Pilot.
Check out Ronnie Dyson ( Why can't I touch you), Clarence Carter (Patches)
When are you finishing the Talk Talk album Daniel? It's taking a lot longer than you promised! 🤔
Live version....
