My neighbor completely built a 2002 Yukon XL 2500 SLT from the bottom up. Upgraded every nut and bolt, you could think of, dropped a brand new 6.6 LB7 Duramax with an Allison 1000 into it. Kryptonite steering components, the whole shabang. Spent well over $100k into it.......has it for sale in his front yard for $40k. The thing is a MONSTER but its never touched a bump since its build. I'm about to sell my Sierra and buy it just cuz I know its pretty much indestructable😂😂😂
I also replaced my nivomat shocks on my 03 burban with the 5100’s but I installed MOOG heavy duty or the Z71 springs instead of the bilstein. Smooth ride, no complaints.
Great video. I have a 99 yukon and i installed the 5100 shocks on the rear so far and wow what a great ride it made. I will b putting the 5100 on the front soon. Keep the vids coming. Thanks
For everyone’s information. The Z71 and standard suspension trucks do not have these special shocks and do not require spring replacement. Only the ZW7 option code (can be read on an options sticker inside your door jamb) require the spring swap. Also, ZW7 smooth ride trucks are not the same as Z55 Auto Ride trucks. The Z55 option is a full on electronic shock and air spring system.
Do you know if we change to bilstein shocks .. will it damage anything on the vehicle?? Or will it ride the same ? Thanks for any info... cuz mines also has the smooth ride performance .. and I need to change the rear shocks but don’t want to spend too much money ..
I watched this video at least 10 times before I put these shocks and springs on. This is what I learned. Use a 3 ton floor jack. Use 6 ton jack stands. Use blue lock tight on all the bolts except for the nylon nuts on top of the front shocks. If you can get the rear high enough you won't have to remove the wheels, but you have to release the rear shocks while you have a jack supporting the differential and you have to lower that as far as it will go and you can remove the old springs and put the new ones in with out having to use spring compressors. I had to remove the rear wheels so you must have had your truck pretty high. Maybe 5 or 6 notches on the jack stan. I went back through all the bolts an check the tork once I had the truck back on the ground but didn't really notice any chang. I spent about an hr. On the front and two to three on the back. The dealership wanted 4 to 5 shop hrs. To do the job at $120./ hr. It was worth the $ 200-300. I spent at harbor freight for the jack and Jack stands because I'm sure I'll be doing more repairs now that I subscribed to your channel. Thx again!

Cool channel! I have a question. I have a 2002 Suburban 1500 4x4 5.3, my rear shocks are air, what do you think about changing them to non-air shocks 5100 Bilstein shocks?

Great video! I have a 2004 Suburban and changed front and rear to the 4600 Bilsteins rather than the 5100's. Read quite a few reviews that the 5100's will lift factory height which I didn't want. Bilstein doesn't care AND they won't change their boxes ANNNND they prefer the customer send the entire shock back. I took my 4 shocks with me and after my car was up on the lift the mechanic tells me there's no mounting hardware for one of the shocks, so back on the old one went. Just swapped my shocks after 150k miles, I too had the premium zw7 suspension on a 03 Tahoe and it was shot. Ride horrible on bumpy roads. Felt like a boat basically. I not knowing those shocks were special ordered rear OE AC Delco shocks for cars with out the premium ride. Well they do ride much better, but the rear dropped a bit. Just a follow up Jimmy, I’m just over a year and a half with this exact setup on my 02 suburban and I’ve noticed that I’m starting to get a little bit of sway on the Highway. Any thoughts? I’m starting to think the 5100’s are starting to fail cause of the weight..
I change my front shocks on my 03 suburban ( beilstein ) and still ride ruff what a waste of $ . Being said it's not always the shock I should have done my homework first 🙄
I recently changed the shocks on my suburban. I bought standard shock because it had standard shocks on it. Now I looked in the glove box and it has the zw7 rpo code but it had normal shocks on it and doesn't appear to be sagging in the back. Do you think someone already changed the springs? 🤔
Gotta 05 z71 gonna put the 2inch torsion keys in 5100 bil shocks&springs but my question is have you had any real weight in the truck/ family loaded vacation weight that's where you'll really know how well they preform? (Reason I'm asking is, that's what I use my truck for) please let me know you were please with the weighted down 4100's
I'd say it will sag. This is why I left my nivomats in my yukon. I put 4600 in the front and left the rear stock. I've loaded mine with over 1k pounds in the rear and could not get it to come down.
Good luck with them I made it 5800 miles on a set, started pouring the oil. Couldn't get them to warranty it. Three years later the bushings had rotted completely out of the shocks. I had good service from their circle track shocks, but I wouldn't run their street shocks on a wheelbarrow. Check out the taco and Nissan forums a lot of people have had bad experiences with their 5100(5150 series. Better off with Gabriel or Rancho junk from advance. At least they will stand behind it.
going to be replacing the front and rears on 2014 suburban. any suggestions? I prefer not to have ride height change. if it was 2-3 inches higher i would not care but just don't want sag.
Ps:I must get SHOCKS for my 2015 Dodge Journey FWD SE, L4 soon,, Actually always used Monroe Best for 40 years : on my GMC CONYON 2007 RWD 4 Cylinder, SE; and still nice ten years later,,,,,,,with Studded winter tires also.... suggestions Journey???

Hey I have a 2002 Chevy avalanche and I am studying your video to perform the same work I have a few questions I hope that you can answer. 1 what size jack stands are you using 3 ton or 6 ton. Question 2 in order to drop the rear axle did you need to un-install the rear springs in order for it to drop axle so that you could take the coil springs out
My 03 tahoe has the auto ride suspension, and the rear shocks are shot and very expensive to replace, will this set up work on mine? Is that the same factory suspension your suburban had?
I haven't come across a problem that I had. Had a shop put mine on, and on the front strut, the adjustable clip was set right, and when taken off the lift, it collapsed. Waiting on a new strut, the other three, no problems. Shop had never had it happen before.
I have a question I put KY B's on the rear my 79 Lincoln Mark V should Iput kyb in the front as well the front has a two-year-old Monroe's but they seem to be okay what do you suggest
Ya my suburban doesn't have the fancy suspension but the springs are worn out it sits pretty low and I say they are pretty cheap I just haven't done them yet

Why did you put the shock in boot up ? If you get a hole in the boot, crap sits on the seal ?
Any issues in terms of the warning messages to "service autoride" on the dashboard since installing these?
Will these springs work with a 2004 Yukon xl
Just added them to my Amazon wish list for my 02 Suburban
Sir you can get them cheaper other than Amazon do your research you can save some money
Desert_storm76h03
Where?
so 5100 will lift the car or just same height as 4600?
Did you feel any bumps or did you feel vibration through your steering wheel once u hit bumps?
You should also add the bilstein 5100 series steering stabilizer.
Thank you
I have a 2003 GMC Yukon SLT and I'm going with Bilstein shocks and springs, but the steering stabilizer won't work on a 2003 according to eBay.
@@Kendell062 don't use ebay for parts reference. Use bilstein's online look up.
@@yellows10dude You're right, should have made sure by checking Bilstein's website.
Thank you love the content, this is my next project for my truck, I have an 04 z71, and it’s all over the road, thank you again for video!!!
So do u think they will work on a 04 Chevy Tahoe
Not to be a Debbie downer but why didn't you keep the bolt in from the same side 🤔just something i noticed
Hey I have a 2002 suburban with air ride suspension. Are this shocks OK to put on?
Will this new combo work on 08 avalanche?
Good luck with them
I made it 5800 miles on a set, started pouring the oil.
Random question but I was curious what size tires do u have on the 2003 suburban?
Grim Tim they’re the stock size from a 2015-2020 Suburban wheels but the bolt pattern is the same
Did I hear some some noises when you went over the speed bump? When the coils reload it sounds like they squeak??
rickfx xzc stevenson🤔 Definitely heard that at 7:03 😂😂
Ps:I must get SHOCKS for my 2015 Dodge Journey FWD SE, L4 soon,, Actually always used Monroe Best for 40 years : on my GMC CONYON 2007 RWD 4 Cylinder, SE; and still nice ten years later,,,,,,,with Studded winter tires also.... suggestions Journey???
I have a question guys i liked this vid i have original air ride in my 03 yukon denali xl i wanna change to conventional shocks and springs front/rear im thinking on bilsteins 5100 and 4600 whats the difference 5100s can work better or is for lifted vehicles also bilteins or other brand springs are etter?
If you can show the diference how many inches go up than the oem original springs
Mr 1Road you think the 5100 bil shocks work with the 99 chevy suburban
Where did u order your suspension. I have a 03 Tahoe that i want to replace tue front and rear suspension. Great videk tho 👊
Would this work for my Chevy avalanche 2005 1500
Hey I have a 2002 Chevy avalanche and I am studying your video to perform the same work I have a few questions I hope that you can answer. 1 what size jack stands are you using 3 ton or 6 ton. Question 2 in order to drop the rear axle did you need to un-install the rear springs in order for it to drop axle so that you could take the coil springs out
Bryant Reddy 3 ton jack stand would work no problem and if you have leaf springs like mine you don’t have coil springs
Hey I bought an old truck with lift kits but I think my shoes are the wrong ones how do I know witch ones are the right ones
It's "Bill Stine", not "bilsteen".
It’s pronounced either way.
My 03 tahoe has the auto ride suspension, and the rear shocks are shot and very expensive to replace, will this set up work on mine? Is that the same factory suspension your suburban had?
I think they sent u the wring springs the rt ones would have been 2 to 3 inches higher
I haven't come across a problem that I had. Had a shop put mine on, and on the front strut, the adjustable clip was set right, and when taken off the lift, it collapsed. Waiting on a new strut, the other three, no problems. Shop had never had it happen before.
I have a question I put KY B's on the rear my 79 Lincoln Mark V should Iput kyb in the front as well the front has a two-year-old Monroe's but they seem to be okay what do you suggest
what do you have for front shocks? is your suburban a FWD or 4WD?
Does it come in a 2 pack ?
Ya my suburban doesn't have the fancy suspension but the springs are worn out it sits pretty low and I say they are pretty cheap I just haven't done them yet
