First time growing lions mane, and I’m just dealing with this myself. We got it under control now, good men like you helping us newbies out. Thanks a lot man teamwork makes the dream work.😜
How did you fix it? I don’t have an exhaust fan just yet and I’m trying to figure out the best way to fix it
Thanks for putting this video out there. I had this same thing happen, Didnt realize at the time my CO2 levels were too high.
Thanks, I am growing some lion's mane for the first time. My first flush is starting and they were looking a little patchy. Based on this video I think it was an air exchange problem and I've increased how long my fans run for.
Thanks for this. Most channels make this all look too easy. I like to see what I'm getting into. Bonus points for showing how to fix it
Thank you so much for this video! I was freaking out because my lions mane is starting out pink! ❤
Very informative with good images describing and SHOWING very well some air issues and remedies for Lions Mane and related.
I've seen a bunch of these problems and was guessing at solutions, so this is helpful and reassuring. Succinct!
thanks for watching! 🍄❤️
Thanks for sharing. We love your channel and appreciate all you do. Great work!
Thank you. First time growing lions mane, it’s nice to see what I should look like
Garyyyy, you always come through for me! Thank you! 🍄🤗
So strange! I had this issue so introduced a fan to it and it turned orange!!
it probably dried out then! Try aiming it not directly at the mushroom
Question about the lions mane "piss".. Why do they leak so much? Some dont fruit or have very small fruits. My guess is bacteria or yeast contam.. Some blocks do it and some dont.. seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. input appreciated thanks
air flows good, humidity around 85 - 89%, temps 25c, masters mix, lions pride and mycelia genetics..
Did you ever figure this out? Same problem over here
Hey Gary awesome videos! My lions mane after harvesting bruising pretty easily, is that common or is the strain i have? Or for the growing conditions? Thanks
this usually occurs if the humidity is too high towards the end of the growth cycle. I usually will drop it to the 80s for a day or two before harvesting
@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi thank you so much for the answer! Keep up the awesome work!! Greetings from Greece!!
@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi is there possibility to be from genetics??
The hero I needed, thanks dude
How do you introduce fresh air? Do you pump it in from outside or do you just utilize vents and your humidifier
Just found this, so thank you. Having the same issue, growing in a mono tub. Been opening up and fanning several times a day, but I guess I need to crack the lid.
yes mono tubs are hard for lions mane, I suggest doing it in a bag within the tub and a small amount of perlite on the bottom to keep the humidity up
@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi Wouldn't you need tent over the the tub? Would you need to open the tent a few times a day?
In the winter it gets very dry, so I'll have to use one of those small tents that come with the kit to maintain the humidity. Will this cause a problem with C02 exchange? Would it even be worth growing?
Hi, Garry
Have you ever got issues with Lion's Mane bitterness? How to avoid that problem?
It can be many things, I think genetics, too wet of an environment, bacteria/yeast/mold can all be culprits. Id start with a different strain, then reduce moisture slowly then try to do it in an isolated area
Great video, just one question .. I've been growing mine for about 3-4 weeks now and looks like I should have given it more fresh air, but now it's all coraly and grown already ... can we still cook it and eat it?
yes as long as it’s white and feels firm and smells normal. It may be more bitter than normal and denser
I’ve got usb computer fans running constantly on battery. Because I’ve got a bunch of fans, if one goes out, it didn’t really matter.
Please make a video about making chanterelle Petri dishes and grain spawn.
I don’t get it off my lions mane is starting to brown, I need to just put a fan on it? Stop spraying. I have a fries kit so mine isn’t burnt brown but it is browning on tips … please let me know what I should change.
Gary, Thanks for all of the vids you share! I'm just starting out in growing mushrooms as a hobby and I'm learning a ton from your content!!! Mush Appreciated 🍄🧡
I am facing same problem of extra Co2 thanks
What substrate do you use? I just grabbed some LC from your Etsy! I have some oat grain bags ready should I use them. I do have hardwood pellets I can use to make some in the future.
nice! I do a 50:50 blend of oak and soy hull pellets
The one in the video at 3:00 you referred to as coral, was that actually coral tooth or just a lions mane that needed to recover? I ask because I had mine in a mono tube and everything was growing crazy, but it just looks like coral tooth. Much like the one you showed at 3:00
Thank you for this, mine were having this problem :).
Love your set up. Do you have build instructions on you shelving system?
thanks I don’t have a video but might be worth doing 👍
Hi Gary, my lions mane are growing really dense with a smooth surface. Does that mean it’s the opposite problem and I have too much FAE?
I think too much fae is fine, maybe the temps are too low usually 65F is pefect but if you are patient they should grow out fine it will just take longer. If it’s not the temp maybe the strain is just a denser one? my bears head tends to do that
Appreciate the video help me with my issues
thank you for showing us this
Yeah thanks so much for this!
Is it specifically lions mane on a video or bears head? What is a humidity percentage in the grow tent?
lions mane - 85% rH
the pink is also related to high co2
perhaps
it is i promise -myco-op
I am growing mycelium on whole oat grain. My first time growing lions mane. This video might come in hand.
Thanks for the help!
I don't know if I wondered mine too much or too much sun But there's like a bright yellow spot kind of underneath on the side and it really smells like a chemical when I smell it like is it supposed to smell like that what's going on
Thank you for these pointers! Have you ran into the issue where fruits aren't formed evenly but parts of it looks ready to harvest. I always thought this was due to genetics but can this be something with uneven air flow? I had a PC fan running 24/7, and recently automated it to go on for 30 min every 1.5 hrs. (RH 80-92)
possibly airflow if there are dead pockets of stagnant air
@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi should I keep the small pc fan on 24/7? Or place the fan off the ground
my l mane has been spongy like that, but my CO2 monitor is always around 600. Could there be any other reasons? Thanks for the great content
Too warm and/or too dry perhaps, depending on what you mean exactly by "spongy." Last fall, we had a terrible wild mushroom season here on Vancouver Island due to drought conditions and warm temperatures lasting through most of October. About a week following a sprinkling of rain, I went out to see what I could forage, and found a sizeable cauliflower mushroom unlike any I ever seen before. Instead of the lobes being all tightly wrinkled and tightly packed together, they grew in stretched out, weird wavy flaps that couldn't support their own weight. The conditions were still extremely dry out where I found it- the twigs and branches were snapping under my feet, and the leaf litter was still crumbly dry.
I'm about to try growing some lion's mane myself, and from all the info I've gathered from these growers, the optimum fruiting temperature is around 16 C, and a relative humidity around 75-90%. Check the humidity of the fruiting chamber, and compare it to the humidity of the air that you're pulling into it. If you find the fruiting chamber is in range, but the air you're supplying is lower (like typical household RH of 40-50% for example), then this indicates that you're drying out the cultures, especially if you know your air exchange is high, and the fruiting chamber is breezy.
Could be a problem with the C02 sensor. I would double check that. I had some problems with my inkbird not calibrating properly so I bought a second sensor for redundancy.
thank you for the reply, as it turned out it was an issue with my inkbird not calibrating properly. @@MG-xs8bi
Does it also smell different? My batch that looks like that smells more sour? I can’t explain it.
that’s probably bacterial contamination then - this doesn’t smell any different
Thanks! Awesome info.
My favorite mushroom guy
maybe too much light as well? idk
🙏 Thank you Gary!
Thank you for your help 🍄💯
Yes my hericiums like this! Thank you
Thank you!!!!
Really helpful. Thanks!
do you put your lions mane in the grow room at the same time as other strains? mine seems to grow slowly and isnt ready to colonize when my oysters are in a week or so
yes - try adjusting spawn ratios you can dial it in
@@FreshfromtheFarmFungi oops i meant theyre never ready to harvest when my oysters are 7 or so days later. they colonize at the same rate and ive been putting them in there at the same time. your lions mane fruit so much btw haha. i get like half a pound per 5lbs block
I've experienced odd tastes from some of my harvests. Sometimes sour, sometimes bitter or slightly bland. What causes this?
Substrate nutrition or maybe contamination to substrate?
many reasons - could be too damp, genetics, possibly contamination (yeast/mold)
mine has gray tips that in some places have sprouted out like a tube with a solid gray cap???? is that normal??
not normal. Maybe has some mold contamination
Looks like they're searching for air?
Can it look like this with to much humidity?
it will be soggy with too much humidity
@Fresh from the Farm Fungi firrst grow so I'm couldn't compare to anything normally but would coral looking but still white fruits be a sign ?
Nice work Gary!!
mine dont even starts to growwwww :/
🙏🙏🙏
❤
this happened to a bunch of oyster bags that i had left inside of a large tub.. they got suffocated and made this weird mutated fruit that looks similar to those. Thanks for the video... this has been the most fruitful year of my life with mushrooms..partly thanks to you gary. cheers
thanks for watching happy growing!
I’m growing my first ever lions mane and it’s starting to turn brown without even having good teeth on it. Thank you for sharing this❤❤❤
Hi Lucy, did you ever find out what caused the no teeth issue?
@@thesmallmyco no but my lions mane continues to turn brown. Still the same batch as mentioned above
