    Another thing to keep in mind is to add a half tbsp of gypsum to each bag for more vigorous colonization and also cold flash each bag between flushes at 38 degrees for at least 8 hours to induce fruiting quicker. Great video!

    • @rustyvessel5086
      @rustyvessel5086 Год назад

      Well a simple Google search will help you with that but since I'm here...The primary role of gypsum is to act as a mineral supplement, as it's presence promotes mycelial growth by providing substrates with calcium and sulfur, both essential elements for good fruit body formation.

    Great tutorial . can I add spawn from the syringe using such receipe ?

    • @slaaayx
      @slaaayx 3 месяца назад

      Late answer, yes it is possible. My experience with that is it grows slow on the substrate, since there are only several points where the mycelium starts growing - where the liquid culture of your syringe went. If you see a batch that is about 3 inches / 8 centimeters in diameter you can shake the back to redistribute the growth around the whole bag. When you wanna do only one bag to test and don‘t want to make grain spawn, this is the fastest way. But if you want a lot of bags and get a lot of harvests I would suggest using the LC on grain spawn, let it grow through for 2-3 weeks and then do them same as in the video. Please note that if you use rye grain it has to be sterilized if used in a bag for 1 1/2 in a pressure cooker @ 15 PSI, since there are endospores that would else survive the process and contaminate your spawn. What also works pretty good in my experience is brown rice, which was hydrated with a light malt extract / dextrose / honey / soy peptone mixture to cook it in. It is not really necessary, just additional if you want better yield.

    • @FieldandForestProducts
      @FieldandForestProducts  Год назад +1

      You can try to make more spawn, but typically we would recommend not using supplemented substrate for spawn and the mycelium will be less vigorous and more contaminant prone the more it's expanded without using sterilized substrate.

  • @peters7211

    Please could you clarify, you said to seal the bag with pegs once mixed, in the video you have left a large space in the bag but then after the 20 days you show a bag which is closely sealed so is it that the filter just allows the bag to deflate and then you wrap the bag tightly? Thank you

    • @FieldandForestProducts
      @FieldandForestProducts  2 года назад +4

      Sure! The initial space is left so that the culture can breathe through the filter patch for the first 20 days. After that the bag is folded under and cuts are made in the bag it forces the mushrooms to come out through those small openings as opposed to growing up into a large space.

    • @FieldandForestProducts
      @FieldandForestProducts  2 года назад +5

      Tightly loop a rubber band above the filter patch to allow for gas exchange while still preventing the spawn from drying out. The spawn can sit out at room temperature for several days to "rebound" after breaking it up, but it should go into the refrigerator within a week.

      You need something that will hold moisture but will still be able to be punctured to allow the mushrooms to grow. You could try fashioning something out of an aluminum coffee can or something, but then you run into a breathability problem.
