Tennessee man Joel Michael Guy Jr., 32, stands trial in the horrific 2016 murders of his parents Joel Michael Guy, Sr., 61, and Lisa Guy, 55. The trial is scheduled to run Monday, September 28 to Friday, October 2, according to records. The Law&Crime Network will be live each day with coverage running from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.
The defendant’s three sisters reportedly told authorities everything seemed okay when the family sat together for Thanksgiving in 2016. But just days after that final get-together, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said Joel Guy Jr. murdered his parents in especially horrifying fashion. Both victims were stabbed and dismembered, their remains placed in different rooms of the house, deputies said.
Authorities suggested the murders happened sometime between Friday, November 25, or the middle of Saturday, November 26. Guy Jr. allegedly put his parents’ remains in “an acid based solution” to destroy evidence.
Investigators said that the defendant, who had been in living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after reportedly withdrawing from Louisiana State University, returned home on the 27th after killing his parents. His parents were last seen alive on Friday the 25th.
Authorities say that Guy Jr. killed his parents after they told him they would no longer pay his bills.
Someone wants the possibility of the death penalty for this case. It’s not the prosecution. The defendant recently asked that he be allowed to represent himself in motions that request the judge and jury be allowed to consider capital punishment in the event of a conviction.
To be clear, the state is not pursuing the death penalty for him. The reason why is currently unclear.
“Ethical rules prohibit the District Attorney’s Office from commenting on pending cases,” said Sean McDermott, a spokesman for Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen, said in an email to Knox News.

Thank god there are people out there that can perform autopsies like these wonderful doctors, I can’t begin to imagine the scene they were looking at when these poor souls were laid out in pieces on the autopsy table must have been a horrific sight, god bless them for being able to work in such a gruesome environment.

If I’d been wrongfully accused of my parents horrific murder, and imprisoned four years awaiting trial, and then have to look at photos of their mutilated bodies... I’d be a wreck, distraught. This guy pleaded not guilty to relive his work, he’s loving every second. Sick **** and lazy, too lazy to pay his own way, and too lazy to clean up the crime scene he meticulously (badly) planned.

I can’t imagine the betrayal his parents felt. The heartache of knowing the child you cuddled to sleep, comforted when upset, played with, taught to walk, talk and read and supported financially, physically and emotionally throughout his entire life and he repaid them with hate, evil and a gruesome terrifying and totally senseless death.
No parent is perfect but Mr and Mrs Guy sounded like loving and supportive parents who adored their children/step children and grandchildren and you can’t ask more than that from your parents. 😢

There has to be more to it, was there fighting and arguments because of the parents supporting him? No family members knowing they must have kept it under wraps..?
What could he possibly be talking about with his attorney that would make him smile during this? Hard to even fathom a son could do this to his parents and look at the pics as if he’s studying them. Did his parents know he was so weird and capable of something like this?

We had a very simular one in the uk, but he murdered 15 men, he cooked pieces too, he kept them in his wardrobe too, and buried in his garden and pieces were flushed down the loo. He too was proud of what he did, we just had a mini tv drama about him and his crimes. His name was Dennis Nilson

He’s enjoying every minute of this trial. He knew he’d get caught and convicted but he didn’t plead guilty and spare everyone the agony of the trial. He made everyone live this trial process and he’s probably loving it.

I watched that too... he stifled a smile when the doctor told the attorney that she "didn't want to cut you off" when the attorney questioned why the doctor's replies were somewhat delayed (46:30)

What we are looking at is a guy whose enjoying his last look at a big screen TV, his last few hours in an Amazon hat mask, the last time he will get to wear his attorney's suit, and the last few times he will be called by his government name before being forever called "inmate!" He is reliving every stab he made and... enjoying it. It will soon be his time to be victimized.

Reverse psychology move on his part because we all know this diabolical evil vile monster does not really want to die or he would have commited suicide. He is in duping delight throughout this trial. The camera is looking for some human reaction, be it positive or negative, there was none. Completely void of what was taking place in front of him, in real time.
I much prefer the witness and the evidence to watching Joel blink and glare at the presentation. He is emotionless and apparently strays off to his own thoughts during the testimony.
Actually I think it’s limited to what they can show on RUclips so they aren’t showing all the pictures she’s talking about.
@@KittyCatDonut you’re correct! RUclips is very specific about what blood/gore content can be shown without being flagged, taken down or de-monetized. I think they directed the camera at him to avoid any depiction of the autopsy photos and it would be interesting to observe his reaction to the photos

Okay I know this is off topic, but seeing the way Dr. Hawes and Sandy Campbell being so professional, interested, and just overall knowledgeable about their respective professions inspires me. I love seeing badass women who are educated and experts in their work. It just makes me want to do better and go back to school. They really are good role models. I know it’s off topic but I had to say it.

He’s not wearing his shield correctly! The shield should be lower ie approx eye brow level & worn in conjunction with a mask. He’s touching his face quite often - particularly his mouth lip & nose areas!!!
It’s a Splash Shield - worn usually during surgery to protect the wearer from debris ie blood bone fragments ect from splashing up on your face during same. Initially I noticed people weren’t wearing their masks correctly but a few good Utube vids seem to have educated us .

I cannot imagine sitting there and seeing pictures of the dead hands of any one of my loved ones, my mom's, dad's, husband's, son's, etc. Hands are so precious and represent such personality and the memories associated with my loved one's hands. Caring, caressing, soothing, love, and gentleness. This monster has no humanity. He can sit thru all of this with no emotion whatsoever. I'll never understand it. I feel so sorry for the family and the jurors who are having to sit and look at these pictures. It's just monstrous and evil.

The good news is that Mr and Mrs Guy died reasonably quickly. When they drew their last breath, their suffering ended. The horrible acts of mutilation and dismemberment caused them no pain. However - there was still plenty of pain to go around for the friends and family. Way to go Junior.

I showed my husband a 10 sec clip of this guy listening and looking at the photos and he said almost the same thing, “why do we have to waste money on a trial for this POS, they should just take him to the chair and hold a press conference afterward, I doubt anyone would object”

He weld up with tears and swallowed hard when Mr. McCracken was leaving the court room ,Spun his chair around to watch him leave ,but photos of his fathers severed hands and his parents severed bodies in a blue tub he never batted an eyelash ! stared at the screen and I believe he yawned at one point this thing is pure evil!

Wish we had more judges like this one. He is extremely sensitive to ALL in his courtroom and remembers that though he sees this every day, most of us have not and so he takes time to explain things very clearly. Props to a very rare judge!
The poor medical examiner.... by the end of the video you can see the exhaustion, strain and shock affecting her. What nightmares this poor lady must have.
I saw that too, from 59:00 onwards while there was a brief break for Prosecutors to count photos. She just for a minute looked exhausted and sickened, like the rest of us would feel. But she and the others were such impressive professionals. Joel on he other hand - a pathetic, lazy, unintelligent and evil excuse for a human being…
Its just so creepy. Both of them were trying to get away, the hands found one grasping & one in a fist (you can easily see how this may have been how his hands were when he died-trying to defend himself from injury), stabbing your mom repeatedly in the butt, removing your parents clothing-its just Deeply, Deeply (idk socially?) creepy if you allow yourself to think about it beyond the physical.

I believe that he wanted to go to trial so that he could watch his work on display, and to further traumatize the remainder of his family. He tried to make their deaths as brutal as possible. Absolutely overkill. This was not just a means to some end, it was enjoyable for him.
It's hard to comprehend that he committed these terrible crimes just to avoid working a job.

I also read a Google article some of the family has received counseling through their church, they believe in forgiveness, they want him in solitary confinement to protect him but I understand not all family agrees and has divided them.

The fact that he requested the death penalty if he was found guilty....is reason enough to not. Why give him what he wants? The family is also probably doing what their parents would want as well. No matter what he did to them and no matter how horrific...most parents would likely not want their child to get the death penalty. I am pro capital punishment and if anyone deserves it....it is no doubt him.

I really respect this judge. His professionalism and continuous efforts to clarify information for the jury/courtroom are remarkable. Hope we have lots more like him out there!
It is amazing he is not hanging his head in shame and sobbing with remorse. He has ice in his veins. He seems to be loving watching his mother's autopsy report in particular, his eyes lighting up, sitting up straighter and leaning forward in his chair, eyes agog.
I’m always waiting for the defendant to burst out correcting the medical examiner of what the injuries were or how it happened.

The judge said jury deliberation will probably start on Thursday afternoon. This means the defence case will be very short, if there is one. It looks like the defendant has entered a not guilty plea just to hear the evidence against him for his own enjoyment.
There’s really no need for them to even leave their seats after closing arguments, quite honestly. This is truly unbelievable. This guy strikes a chord with me in a way not even a Charles Manson, Ted bundy, etc. ever could. He is truly one of a kind in the darkest, creepiest, most terrible way. I find it hard to even look at him...yet I can’t not when they put the camera on him. He is HIDEOUS inside and out. UGH

Was he given a mental evaluation during all this time that has passed? He definitely knew what he was doing? Those poor parents, they loved him and he only loved himself. So horrible and so very sad. 😥

This is absolutely horrific, his dad was fearing for his life and most likely fearing for his wife life. The helplessness of not being able to save yourself or even warn family and police. Im just horrified.

You know after watching him during this long court hearing, the defendant looks like he is admiring his work and, while the fine description of lesions ( penetrating wounds) from the forensic coroner, Joel appears to appreciate by squinting his eyes at the overheads of the specifications and emphasized details. As a sociopath would appreciate the attention brought to his work!
Dismemberment of a body is so beyond comprehension. My prayers go out to all the family members that have to go through this terrible trial...seeing the daughters on the stand breaks my heart.

I looked at his Dad's severed hands and thought to myself those hands held you when you were a baby, tucked you in at night, helped you learn how to ride a bicycle, throw a ball, take you to the barbershop for your first haircut, and gave you money for 28 years of your selfish life. And he shows NO emotion and NO remorse. Did he choose to stab them to make them suffer longer?? Was he that angry at them for cutting him off financially?? They probably had another 35 years of their life left to enjoy their retirement years😪 did he think his parents were going to continue to pay his bills for the next 30 years??!!! 🙄

His eyes bulge whenever he’s enjoying what he’s seeing it seems like. Pretty sure an innocent person wouldn’t be able to stare without breaking their gaze at pictures of their parents’ mutilated bodies. He’s viewing the photos like it’s an episode of a show he’s really in to!
This trial is just days of stroking his ego. He’s enjoying the reactions, being able to see the destruction he caused again, listening to the forensic breakdown of what he did, and the infamy.

Yes I have to agree any time they show photos of the body parts his eyes get extremely large and then he realizes his eyes are bulging so he tries to lower the eye's so that they appear regular. Definitely reliving the attacks, that's why the eyes are bulging when viewing the severed body parts. An individual like this incarcerated would have to remain in a special unit. He's a danger to anyone.

The court should NOT allow the defendants to view the photos! He looks like he is thoroughly enjoying looking at the gruesome photos!! A truest not guilty person would NEVER be able to see this without sobbing, looking away, and absolutely losing it!! The court is allowing him to totally get off on watching this! He makes me sick! I hope he is tortured in prison!!

You can’t legally do that. Every person has the constitutional right to face their accusers and the evidence. You can’t just make up rules like that on a case by case basis. What would the judge even say? If anything, it just shows to the jury guilt in that he has no problems looking at photos of his dismembered parents
That’s not the point though. It’s to ensure the defendant can’t claim tainted evidence. They’re meant to see what everyone else does, which is a shared, factual account of events.
A defendant must have access to all of the evidence against them. He is enjoying it, but get real. Similar to saying the state’s gonna prosecute you, but you’re not allowed to see view the evidence being used against you. grow up.
