    door to door is pretty much the same as "driving for dollars", an old school way to get work/ advertise. it can be a lucrative way to get jobs if youre doing exterior work like painting, carpentry, pressure washing, masonry, and some other things and you can drive by and spot a house needing work then knock on the door or hang a flyer/ hangar/ card on the door but not the mailboxes. the downside is the overhead. gas is not cheap these days (6-22) and neither is printer ink and paper and another printer drum after awhile. ive been SEO from day one and get all of my work from being listed online, but, i decided to map out a well to do neighborhood and walked it passing out 50 door hangers. i wont do that again. in rich neighborhoods they have looong driveways and youll wear yourself out walking it. some will say "well you gotta put in the work to get the work" and thats true but nowadays everything is online. everything. online and word of mouth is the biggest money maker by far. reviews will make or break you too.

    This is all old school techniques, was hoping for modern techniques like growing your online social media followings, website refinements or reel videos on websites and using SEO.

    • @chuckthecontractor
      @chuckthecontractor  5 месяцев назад

      There is no new technique that works better than the old ones, in general. You might find a niche in your local market that works better than others but, in general, most consumers are finding contractors the same way they have been for years. The best way to play the game is to play it the normal way and just be better than your competitors.

    I have 5 referrals in my community and 1 in another town. From contractors that either retired, don't do finish carpentry, a rough/ framer don't want to do finish, I don't want to do rough.
    I helped my cousin build his home hated it.

      Referrals are awesome! It’s good to have multiple streams of clients.

      @@chuckthecontractor to a degree, once you work for the referred client, then must wait sometime before another hires my company .
      I believe the most effective means of attractions customers is a vehicle wrap.
      I have watched numerous video on effective ways to market and / or advertise your business.
      All state need a website while true , is not the most effective way to be found.
      Like s book in the library sitting on the shelf. To find that book need to know it exists.

      @@jeffalan6339 Totally! Vehicle wraps, yard signs, branded shirts, etc. are all ways to market your business. You should aim to do all of them all of the time. A website is one tool in the toolbox.

    • @chuckthecontractor
      @chuckthecontractor  Год назад +2

      What seems obvious to you might not seem obvious to someone else. A lot of people i talk to do not actively promote themselves to the people they come into contact with. Some feel like it’s a negative thing to sell themselves. I’m letting people know it’s ok to make sure everyone they come into contact with is informed about what they have to offer. If people make an effort to let people know that they offer a particular service, they will surely get more customers.

    • @chadlaflamme7942
      @chadlaflamme7942 Год назад

      @@chuckthecontractor I think you both have a point. That said.. I actually get really annoyed with people who "sell themselves" all the time. I've been a contractor for 15 years and my wife knows.. if we are at a social function, don't bring up the fact that I'm a contractor unless they are simply asking what I do for a living. Nothing grosser than a jackwagon walking around a party or social function promoting their business. There's a fine line between being open about what you do, and being an annoying salesman.

    • @chuckthecontractor
      @chuckthecontractor  Год назад +3

      @@chadlaflamme7942 Nobody likes the person who is constantly talking about their business and promoting it to their friends and family. That is very different than what most contractors do. Most contractors don't talk about it at all and are super afraid that they are going to come off salesy. The point I make in the video is that it's ok to tell people what you do. If your shirt says "Joe's Remodeling" and your name is Joe, then you don't even have to say anything.
      There's a tactul way of promoting yourself and that's what I suggest people do. Be nice about it and have some situational awareness and you'll be fine. If you annoy someone once in a while, who cares? I would rather be slightly annoying than broke.
