I love this shit! I’m working a 9-5. Started my own business. Currently doing some side work. Yesterday, just submitted my first proposal to make some friggin money!
I am 20 years old trying to grow my business as a landscape contractor and this was absolutely everything I needed to hear. All worries and questions validated. I was having a tough few weeks and this made it feel pretty good. Thanks again! #FW
@@zachnah5029 I did ok, got my license, picked up a bonafide FW for an employee and I just got a brand new excavator to keep up with my jobs. Not as far along as I'd like to be rn, but it's been good.
Ive operated My business for over 10 years and what this man is sharing is gold! Not just financially but also for the piece of mind that can't be bought.
Spanish listener just discovering this great piece of gold, I run a 35 employees refurbishment and construction company, and after 5 years we are making it profitable, because we took so few A players in the beginning, and after this time we discovered how important is an accountable team!! That's really make the difference.
Your videos have changed my perspective. And helped my anxiety at night of not having work. I’ve only been in business a month, but you brought me hope. Thank you for the amazing content!
Accountability is so rare now days I always hold my self accountable be it showing up late I dont give excuses I just work harder cause I feel like I messed my whole day up or if I mess something up I say I did it and I fix it. I’m a stone mason and I know in my field there is such a lack of accountability and respect. Great video I’m starting my own company in a few months and your videos have been such a blessing to watch, keep up the great work.
Man where have you been all my life? Fucking awesome. Im starting my own business as a General Contractor and landed my first decent size job and you can imagine what the answer would be if you asked me if i learned something from hiring people to do a job. Paying yourself first I've been screaming to the last dumbass i fucking worked for. Dude you are the precise person i need to listen to daily. Thank you very much. I would love to talk to you if that was ever possible. I have over 25 years in Sales, Management and being a GM for companies and i got sick of making other people rich and getting shit money for it. Also integrity, you might have heard people say that before but I'm sick of working for people who are fucking evil and rip people off to unimaginable extreme greed levels with no care of others and who they are hurting at all. Thank man and im listening.
I appreciate this video. I've painted for over a decade. Knew nothing about business when I started. Been learning as I go and as a business person I've wasted lots of time and money and ill aimed effort. I'm getting the business polished one crucial step at a time thanks to honest and open videos like yours. Thank you.
Thank you, great video. I just got knock out by your wise words but I got up all woken up and ready to work and leave the past behind me. Once again thank you!
I got one of those shirts. My kids were old enough for me to tell them straight what it meant. I ALWAYS go back to this video when i need some motivation.
Brother got to give you props for your video's. I value your time to share the knowledge. . I'm looking into getting contractor license. This video was the first option that came up on youtube as soon as I open the RUclips app. So thanks for Dakota for helping out dad with this. Be safe be proud be grateful be smart be honest be successful. All day. . Beast mode
Tom, I think you may be #1 when it comes to "best advice for contractors", both C and A players. I hear your experience in your advice. Thank you for your straight advice. Keep it up, Please!
I subscribed! Love the brutal honesty. Bro, your a breath of fresh air! Your videos are excellent. Gearing up to take the leap and putting together a master plan to get back in the game. Thank you for the real fucking deal attitude!
Thanks for your tips. I was about to give up. I started my own construction business f 2 years ago and it was not easy but thanks to these tips. I will continue forward I want to be a F.W. thankyou very much

Contractor Fight TV it maybe my headphones man. I really like you content. I hope these people following realize the gold you’re putting out there. So many people tout technical prowess, when there’s so much more to the whole story. So many hats
Awesome video. The “chasing unicorns” part felt like it was targeted at me though… haha. Pre- qualifying is a huge deal and we have learned that the hard way in our cabinet business
Man optimize before maximize.Wish I heard that awhile ago. I wasn't being profitable last year with 5 guys.I ended up starting over with just 1 guy and slowly becoming efficient and more profitable
tom you should do a video on collecting deposits, my largest problem is scheduling a month out and people canceling when the time comes up, I hate worrying if we actually have a job, or not?
I'm seeing a common theme now. I read a book the other day called "Profit First" and they couldn't emphasize enough how important pricing your jobs for profit really is. They insist on taking your profit from a job out first, then paying expenses and overhead with what is left. That will tell you pretty quickly if you aren't pricing your work correctly.
Amazing video I never seen one of your videosThis one really hits home I’m going my company to the next level and I like the way you talk about FW’s you’re the best thank you very much not many people make good construction videos everybody talks about selling houses and insurance keep it up you’re the man
Make sure you value your FW's!! Don't let those people go. Those are the people that are making you money. Those are the folks worth more than 2 B's players. Treat them right and pay them well and watch how they will never leave your side. If they know that all they are doing is coming in everyday ready to work and not have to stress about paperwork or clients then they already won at life!
Tom ! Nice power pitch man ! Whooo Hooo ! Struck a real nerve here ! I’m an employee and I HATE it ... reality is where I live ... I gotta get back out there
It’s like you are speaking to me. It’s like someone somehow told you everything you need to know about me and my business and hired you to have an intervention with me.
God bless your brother you are a so fing right I have fallen into the same shit I was never thanks for it at all,,,,. Just screwed myself and my family over never again, but that's a great advice for everybody pay yourself first you're doing all the work.
Great videos. Enjoy watching them in between appointments. Did have a question and I’m sure you probably have a video on it that I couldn’t find but what is sure process when you are the first one in the home and they still want to get other quotes knowing that you are probably the most expensive but provide the best service and don’t you subcontractors. By the way I’m in the window and door business in Florida
Shaun-my Contractor Sales Academy teaches a way to handle this BEFORE you get to the home. Head to www.thecontractorfight.com for a bunch of resources to help you learn this.
Thank you, I took this video personal because I jumped into estimating Structural Steel without any experience and I haven't made a sale yet. I thought if I knew the prices I would sell more but even with the help of my boss I still haven't sold a job and I found this channel so I have high hopes I'm going to be a step closer to being a millionaire if I take advantage of your advice.
First Step: Acquire some skills that allow to charge $400.00 per man hour with a 50% personal gross profit margin, 2.) Get a website and build up your Google maps / Social media following, 3.) Hire a call center to help free up mental band width, 4.) Hire a crew of 4 guy’s to work underneath of you and build up the company credit and financial reserves, 5.) Have all 4 guy’s work with you on the job site for 1-2 years, then turn them into foreman’s, and have 1 crew of 4 guy’s work underneath each foreman, 6.) repeat steps 4.) and 5.) Until you issue IPO’s.
Yes I have chased a few unicorns.. You lost me at the 50% profit thing.....bit high..I like my contingencies written in combined with good communication.Enjoyed it thxs.
When subcontracting all work out, what profit margins should I be striving towards? I’ve been estimating exterior jobs for the past several years and now I’m starting a business to subcontract out all work. Any advice?
This not just for being a contractor this is for life in general!
