I absolutely agree as a contractor. THE NUMBER METRIC = PHONE CALLS.

We are running into this right now. All clicks; no calls as of yet. Getting a little nervous but I appreciate your video and the links youve provided. Looking forward to getting calls!

For key words. Would it be fine to label the city as well. Example would be let's say. (Beaverton house painters? )

Yeah, you can do that. A lot of campaigns use landing pages that don't have a menu and limit the actions someone can take to 1 or 2 things. I look at these on a case by case basis to decide which format to use. We're always testing so there's no 1 way that works better in all cases, it's just something that needs to be tested. A good place to focus is on your customer's experience. If they can get all the info they need on one page, then great! if not, they will need to bounce around and look some more.

When you're running ads you just go through periodically and look through the search terms. Check the ones you don't want to show up for anymore. You can probably guess a few of them. After some time, you'll have a pretty long list.

My problem is I have strong word of mouth base and when I run Google ads the referral clicks on the first ad and when I ask them how they heard about me they say this or that person recommend so wasting money because when they looked up they click the ad

It shouldn’t cost you must when people click on your brand name ad. Also, if your SEO is set up properly the you should be all over the front page of google anyway and might not need to run ads bidding on your brand name…

You might want to add negative keywords to your ad campaign that include your brand name so that they only click on organic results for your business name.

Why are you letting this contractor blow $500 for potentially 4 leads per month - if that average holds.. Allowing his campaign to pay $25 per click seems high. There has to be a better strategy. I’d fire you already

    • @chuckthecontractor
      @chuckthecontractor  3 года назад +9

Hey Philip thanks for the comment. Let's go point by point and address the issue you brought up.
      1) To spend 500 on 4 leads = 125 per lead. This is an exclusive lead meaning it went directly to the contractor and it's someone who has likely done at least a little due diligence in checking the website and seeing this company might be worth working with.
Let's compare this with something like Angi Leads. It's common to spend 50 per lead from Angi Leads. It could be even higher for painting leads in this competitive part of the country. According to Angi Leads, they sell leads to 3 contractors. Assuming you're good enough to win 1/3 of these leads, you could say you're spending 150 per qualified lead through this channel. I know the math isn't perfect but let's just use these assumptions for the sake of comparison.
One way Angi Leads produces the leads they sell is through Google Ads, so let's assume they are spending the same 100 per lead and reselling it for 150 (3 x 50) so they make a 33% profit.
I bring this up only to compare these two methods contractors commonly use to get leads and show that they are relatively comparable. In my experience only 1/7 leads from Angi are qualified so that could be as much as 350 per qualified lead but the results are different for everyone. Remember that when you're calling these leads on the phone, they have never heard of you before unlike the ones that come in directly through Google Ads. This certainly makes it harder to sell.
      2) "$25 per click seems high". It does seem high. I've seen painting-related clicks in Portland go for up to $180 per click. Insane, I know, but someone was bidding that much at the time I saw this. This info comes from Google's suggested top of first place bid which is an estimate on how much you must spend to be on top of the list.
In the example I show in this video, there are other people bidding more than our $25 per click but we are happy paying a little less because we don't need to be at the very top of the page every time in order for it to generate leads.
      3) "There has to be a better strategy". I believe there is. I talk about it all the time in my videos. Google Maps, also known as Google My Business, can produce leads for much less if you know how to use it properly. The downside is that it's less controllable than Google Ads in that you can't increase spending to increase leads, you must wait for them to come to you.
Finally, I want to point out that you're talking like those folks that I bring up in the beginning of the video. You're focused on the wrong metrics. Who cares how much you pay per click or per lead as long as you make a profit? If you can spend 500/mo and get 4 leads, close 1 of those jobs on average, and profit 2500 on it, then wouldn't you be happy to pay this amount? If you could turn 500 into 2500, perhaps you would up your spend to 2000 so you could get 4 jobs and make 10k?
This is how advertising works and those that figure out how to make a profit on the numbers they're given have the opportunity to scale up their spend and be in control of expanding their business. Most people would agree with you, however, and would be turned off by spending 500 on 4 leads and would stop trying after 1 month because they're focused on the wrong metrics...
So, you see? It's about profit. If I could spend 500/mo on leads and make 2500/mo from them, then I would do that all day long. If I found that I didn't make the profit I wanted, then I would cease the effort and try something else. At the end of the day, it's about profit.

@@chuckthecontractor With your direction, he’s paying $25 per click, 25% conversion (which isn’t bad) but only 5 leads per month for $500.00. That’s probably the high end for painting keywords. Typically a person will actually close a lead (conversion) at a 10%-20% rate. At your pace, he has a high probability he’ll close 1 deal every 2-3 months! I just think you are leading him to a dull waterhole. Just tell a guy with that low of a budget that Google Ads ain’t for him. A certified google agency will get a business’ quality score way up giving the business a lower CPC and thus more opportunities for converting and actually closing a deal.

    • @chuckthecontractor

@@philipcarter1143 If Google Ads was the only source of leads then it would probably not be enough for sure. How the math works out has to be determined by every company decision maker based on the actual results they get.
The example show in the video was a low budget test to gather some data and let them try it out. I agree the budget is very small.
My goal wish sharing some details was to illustrate how ads work, not necessarily show the best case scenario of running ads.
I know 25 per click seems high but there are keywords that are higher… it’s just the way it is. That’s why my company focuses more on the organic side of things as it’s more profitable. That said, I do know a Google Ads agency that run millions worth of ads and paying 350/lead for home service leads is not uncommon for them. About 70% of their customers find it to be profitable.

@@chuckthecontractor Ok. But still, I bet if you told the guy it would take 2-3 months for every actually closed deal, he wouldn’t do it. Take care
