I love how Shane says "sometimes I do a thing when I'm scared. I locate the part of my brain that is terrified and shut it off". If it was that easy for everyone. 😂
He did that pretty often, don't he? I cannot guess otherwise why he had to be so contemptuous and derogatory to the spirits all the time. So much so that even his fellow partner is fed up with him. I interpret Ryan's clearly negative facial expressions to Shanes speeches and reactions as real.
I hope he’s just a naturally chill guy, but as someone else who can do that... that skill often comes from experiencing trauma. Same reason traumatized people can “turn off” being ticklish and such
I mean he obviously uses childish bravado, self-aggrandizing and juvenile humour as a way to distract himself. Pity it often ends cheapening the experience and stopping any attempt of using ghost box meaningfully.

So how's the support group of spirits and demons who have been bullied by Shane functioning?
It's doing quite good, some ghosts have enough confidence to go back to haunting- but still come back sometimes.
The demons are having a harder time, especially Goatman. Poor sir.

The end of this episode actually changed how I felt about the dynamic between Ryan & I. I sort of just figured they were friends and coworkers that got along, so did some shows together that worked out well together. They razz each other, they're funny together and their dynamic easily makes the show prosperous. But the end of this actually rung a "oh, they're genuinely friends." I sort of always felt like Ryan admired Shane's ability to not let things bother him, and fear is easily managed for him. But you get to see here that Shane admires Ryan's ability to feel intensely in these moments and be confident in not understanding how the world works and there are things that exist beyond our understanding. Shane who is jokingly callous at times, is genuinely comforting and encouraging that sort of encouragement really clicks that he really meant it when he said "I wish I could have my lack of belief shatters" (I'm paraphrasing). He sees the world for it's flat value and nothing more, wishes he had the whimsy to believe so strongly in the unsolved matters of the universe. I felt warm and fuzzy after this episode!
