I never understood what Jack the Ripper meant by "that joke about leather apron gave me real fits" until I learned that there was a guy who lived in the area, a bootmaker named John Pizer and nicknamed "Leather Apron" who was reported to have threatened several prostitutes and was being considered as a suspect for the murders. He was arrested, but had alibis for all the murders up till then. So basically in his letter Jack the Ripper was saying "you thought it was *that* guy?! Lol"
There's no proof the killer wrote a single letter. The police at the time believed it was a journalist. Most people who are passionate about the case today believe it was a hoax.
Definitely a sense of enjoyment and slight arrogance in his letters

For the barnett dude, I think the fact that Mary Kelly was killed in her sleep and that he was her ROOMATE/FORMER ROOMATE says a LOT!!!
True, but the thing with Marie Kellys room is that the door can be opened from the outside, by reaching through a window and unlocking the latch. This means any potential men that she had brought back whilst “working” would be able to regain access to her room at any given time. Which does throw doubt onto the theory

Its crazy for us Londoners that whenever you wanted to, you could just walk through the same streets the most infamous serial killer had carried out his crimes at
The Ripper walk in 1988 must been amazing
What's interesting for me is how he always managed to get away right before the police came. He was certainly very familiar with the streets, maybe scouted them beforehand to know which dark alley would be a safe passage after the murder. I also think he could have been a "nobody" - a regular person whose name, as with most of us, went down into the darkness of passing time never to be discovered.
If this happened now he would be named “Chad the Chopper”

Jack was not a psycho. He was a sociopath. In full control of his senses. He would probably lie in wait somewhere and pounce on isolated victims.
"Psychopats" also have self control, even more, in some cases, than sociopaths, as psychopats are born and sociopaths are made throught trauma

The one thing that definitely makes me think it wasn't actually a doctor is the way they commented in the letter about the blood getting too thick to write with. A not so fun fact: With Jack The Ripper, many believe that all women he killed were prostitutes, the real truth is that only one was but people are more bothered about the ripper himself rather than who the women were.
This was caused by the Police's Death Certificates, which stated the women were all prostitutes.
It's kinda sad that they just blow over their lives honestly but I'm sure that there's existing books on them!
Enjoy this info! I love this kind of stuff so it's sort of like a memory check :D
Yes so true. Debunk File has a great video on Jack the Ripper and the Canonical Five and I love the focus on the victims. 👍🤠
I agree. It isn't a fun fact because it's not true. Literally all but one had records of prostitution. And I mean hard, verifiable records of prostitution. To deny Kelly and Stride especially being prostitutes is nonsense. It'd be like arguing 1+1 doesn't equal 2. Both have EXTENSIVE records of prostitution. The only one that's in question I Catherine Eddows but the rest definitely did have a history with prostitution
There's a book called the five which is basically based off this thought, it gives a description on each woman and talks about their lives ect
Dude there’s historical records verifying that most of these women were indeed prostitutes. They don’t just make these claims without bases of evidence.
The five is one I'm gonna start reading it after I finished my current book
The way that some people in these comments discuss the victims is horrible, particularly about post mortem pictures of these women, stating that these pictures "weren't that bad". Those women were victims and brutally murdered in horrific ways. Stop minimizing what happened to them in an attempt to make yourself sound 'edgier'.

Theory: what if, Jack the Ripper was actually a cop and that’s how he was able to walk around doing things without getting caught because everyone around him just thought he was a normal cop. This would explain a lot of things besides the “Doctor” thing, But it is possible he was studying medicine and quit because he knew he wouldn’t go anywhere therefore he chose to become a cop instead.
What if he was a ghost that’s probably how he got around
What if he ate baked beans
What if she’s a girl and her theory is invalid
Impossible. Although one of the suspects was the nephew of a cop
He choose to become a cop instead
After this episode I've seen some murmurs that maybe he was a police officer, which is how he was able to evade capture during the search, I personally love this theory as in the letters he keeps referring to the chief of police as "boss". Obviously there's no way to confirm this but I think its a neat idea to think about.
but it's slang.....like fam or blud or dude....ppl read way too much into the letters when they're likely not even from the Ripper. I mean the most iconic Ripper letter is a confirmed fake 😂
@@nothobbesmufc949 Not only the slang part, but the fact that it appeared that the Ripper knew police patrols.
@Gamer_Wolf. Dude imagine if there was a movie like clue that had multiple endings. Screen 1 is Lusk, Screen 2 is Openshaw, Screen 3 is PC Neil, Screen 4 is Lechman. Just imagine!
I love the theory that Jack the Ripper was actually a woman and a midwife. It would explain the anatomical knowledge that the killer had of the female body, and it would also explain how she could move around freely and undetected. Because of the way society treated women in those days, with the whole "women can't do anything," it could be safe to assume that there were no female suspects because they believed that a woman could not carry out these murders. I think that this is a really interesting idea and hope that one day, they can prove it right.
Edit: It would also be easier for her to kill these women. If she walked towards a woman at night, then the victim might not think much of it and it would be easier to get closer to them to kill fast and undetected.
It would hard to explain the witnesses seeing a male, unless you say all the witnesses made up the sightings potentially?
@@mr16325 Did they see a male killing though?

I actually wonder if Jack the Ripper was a guy from Hamilton, Canada, my hometown. I read about this potential suspect a while ago.
There was a fellow who was English-born and tended to visit his home in London during the summer. Other times he lived in Hamilton. This chap was wealthier, obviously, since he had two houses, and this was because he was in fact a doctor.
In Spring 1888, a prostitute was found in a back alley in a sketchy part of town with her throat slashed in much the same fashion. I’ve actually been to the spot where it supposedly happened, and it’s definitely from the Victorian era. Shortly after, the police investigated, and this guy dipped and went to London, where the rest of the murders occurred. Once the police started getting really involved there, he used his evasion skills to head back to Canada.
And in autumn 1888, another murdered prostitute was found in Hamilton, in a similar fashion to Mary Kelly. It’s also worth noting this guy did have a moustache.
It’s not the most damning evidence, but I really wonder if that’s who it was. Wish I could remember the guy’s name.
Edit: I got some information wrong, but I found the man. His name was Dr. Francis Tumblety.
He was American, not English, but practiced in several countries after getting in trouble with the law numerous times, so he was very good at evading the police. He did in fact live in Whitechapel during the time of the Ripper killings. And he also lived and practiced in Hamilton at the time the two prostitutes here were killed.
Another interesting tidbit is that he was once married to a prostitute, but the marriage failed. He was a known misogynist, especially towards prostitutes (likely because of his failed marriage), and even kept preserved uteruses on display in his home. I wonder where he got these uteruses….
Some ripperologists say he was too tall to match the description of the man the hookers were with.
this is actually good evidence and quite interesting 💀 you should honestly talk to someone about this
@@katiemarie5491 I actually heard it from a ghost tour in downtown Hamilton and researched it myself later on. He’s already on the list of suspects iirc, he’s just not super high up there because the murders in Hamilton were never proven to be him, and him being in the right places at the right times could purely be some weird coincidence. But still, it makes me wonder…
Edit: I posted an edit on the original comment. I did some extra research to find the name of the guy I’m looking for.
Lol his Wikipedia article cites him as a medical quack 😂😂 so not a doctor
yo, not really related but i’m from Hamilton, Scotland. just thought it was cool we both live in a place called hamilton lol
A commenter by the name MrMoggyMan also had said Tumblety is likely to be Jack. They noted that after the last murder, Tumblety fled to France then back to USA. Also, where he lived while at London, they found a blood spattered shirt. He had unsuccessfully obtained a sample of women's uteri during his stay at London if i'm not mistaken. And Anne Chapman lost two rings. After Tumblety died, his possesions were listed. Among these possessions which contained with expensive jewelry, found two cheap identical rings. Another commenter under his comment also said that Arthur Conan Doyle sensed the "Americanism" in Jack's letters, which further (confirms??) that Tumblety could be, if not THE suspect, among the main suspects.

The fact that he knew all the police routes suggest he could've been a police officer, maybe a police mortician either that or it was Barnett that knew the last victim
My guess on who's Jack The Ripper
- Charles Allen Lechmere
- Aaron Kominsky
No one thinks of PC Neil? The policeman who 'missed' Ripper?
He couldn’t be a doctor. He said he was going to use the blood to write the next letter, but was frustrated that it coagulated and was useless, but a doctor would know the blood would clot.
Right. And the theory of him being a police officer or a police mortician, those would give him anatomical knowledge so he still should've known the blood would coagulate.
I mean he could be a shrewd individual who was purposefully including information in the letter to throw authorities off; aka he was lying. He also said he would clip one of the ears of the victims, but that didn't go down either
@@josiahteng6906 he didn’t get the ear because he ran out of time.
It would never occur to a doctor to say “I’m gonna use the blood as ink” because they would know that it wouldn’t work. It’d be some 5d chess move to double bluff like that.
But is the 1800's after all
unless the letter wasn't actually written by him

when shane and ryan are having the conversation about sock puppets in the beginning of the ep, I can just see the wheels turning in shane's head (and a few years later, he created his own puppet show of sorts retelling historical events....) lmao
This is the moment in this episode when Shane got the idea for puppet history he said you could use puppets to do true crime stories and then he sat there says I get on with that and a look of creative thought hit him and puppet history was born

Aaron Kos1minski -1888
Fable Of Demo - I been a priest all along
Fable Of Demo - yes just a demented hairdresser.
His medical knowledge kinda makes sense too since barbers back then we're also considered as surgeons.
I want jack the ripper to be like the milk man or the paper boy
Interns at the asylum Kosminski stayed in have stated they believed him to be completely harmless and weren't even sure he could speak English, considering he only seemed to speak Yiddish.
In case anyone was wondering they determined time of death by the temperature of the body. It decreases 1.5 c every hour.
oh ok ty
They could’ve also looked at the color of the blood, as it gets darker when it clots. But there are a lot of factors to consider including the surface (blood clots quicker on a rough surface and oily surfaces make the blood clot slower than it would on a smooth or clean surface) Also when someone dies, their blood pressure tanks to zero and they stop bleeding which can help determine if they were stabbed to death and died quickly or if they were laying there bleeding for a while before they died.
Yeah she probably would still have been warm when they found her. It's a shame
Am i the only one that actually went to the comments to see who knew how they actually determined T.O.D. lol
@ Gif interesting……
Another cool theory was H.H. Holmes (Herman Webster Mudgett), he was an American Serial Killer during the Jack The Ripper time period. Holmes was believed to of been in Great Britain during the Jack The Ripper murders. Also H.H. Holmes had surgical skills that he obtained from Medical School and he also looks very similar if not identical to Jack The Ripper sketches. If you wanna know something even weirder, handwriting samples from Holmes and Jack The Ripper procured a 97% match.
Yeah this is great theory except H.H. Holmes was actually a doctor so i doubt he didn't know that blood would clot and you couldn't write with it. Unless that letter is fake i find it hard to believe they were the same people. I don't think JTP was a doctor but had knowledge of the human anatomy somehow.

The most terrifying monster that you could imagine. He was the head fry cook at The Krusty Krab when, one day, he accidentally chopped his hand off with a knife. To this day, he still has a spatula instead of his hand. There are a few signs to see when he is coming. The lights will flicker on and off. The phone will ring, and there will be nobody there. If you ever see the Hash slinging slasher, good luck.

at 10:59 this part can further tie into the theory that jack was a police officer because he could’ve gone there in his police uniform and it wouldn’t rise any suspicion because the area was already swarming with cops (he wouldn’t have any reason to fear a group of cops because he himself was one)
