  • Whether you own a 350z, G35 or 370z, Stillen has been a popular option for forced induction. Their kits are available for around $7k-$8k promising up to "400WHP". Well, we put Stillen to the test and things didn't end well...

Buddy’s g37 with a stillen supercharger made 470ish, we installed it and took it to a tuner, i dont think those base tunes are suppose to be the permanent tune I think that’s just so you can drive it to the tuner.

@@DriverMotorsports lol yes they do , before I got my kit I researched for months on the kits pros and cons. Some will deal with stillens tune because it ensures the car stays smog legal . I live in s.c so I don't have to worry about passing a smog test. I definitely understand the frustration of spending all that money with such little gains but if the owner doesn't have to worry about smog test, he should just get the car retuned . He's already spent 8k what's another 500 to 800 hundred bucks that will get him the power he wants .

  • @meidosonbol

I think a lot of people are misunderstanding the point of the video. I think they know that the problem is the tune and that’s why they’re not recommending stillen. Stillen promised something that they didn’t deliver. You shouldn’t have to spend extra to get a custom tune if you already paid stillen for it. The tune is only the beginning of the problem. The A2W system is super inefficient so it heat soaks badly. What’s even worse is you don’t even know when it’s heat soaking because the MAF sensor is mounted where the intake pipe is behind the grill, reading ambient temps, not charged air....

I’ve known a couple of people to buy the Tuner Kit and make over 400whp/tq. However, those were on the EcuTek Software. I do agree with you, their “Tuned” kit should be 100% perfect for that price.

On my G35 Vortech, the tension on the Gilmer side of the supercharger (belt already installed on yours) does not need to be as tight the belt and pulleys have teeth. Over tightening that adds to the bearing noise at idle. Now the factory pulleys that hook to the front side of the bracket has to be tightened via the factory tensioner. The tell tale sign of a loose belt is that same squeak at startup. Tightening it went from 6psi to 8psi without a squeak.

as far as i understand, the stillen kit isn't worth buying in comparison to the SOHO Motorsports A2A kit. it only utilizes (of stillen's parts) the upper intake manifold; and then SOHO produces the pipes, couplers, crash bar and most importantly the intercooler, which is visually volumetrically WAY beefier than stillen's. besides that obvious baseline reason, it averts the unnecessary complication of involving coolant in the process and rather relegates that cooling to good old fresh, cold air ramming through the grilles. The two cons are that it is 1700 more expensive and you need to have a tune prepared before starting which is inconvenient but the kit looks better

I know this is a very late reply but u should search up @admintuning on Instagram most common issue ppl do w these kits is just slap it on without supporting mods like bigger injectors, fuel pump, oil cooler…etc. In this video they didn’t add bigger injectors which resulted in not making the power they hoped for and soho Motorsports makes a bigger Inter cooler for the stillen sc kit which is way better in keeping the temps down than the one supplied. This kit on an unopened motor and stock trans can push low-mid 500s easy on 93 octane or mid-high 600s on e85 w a stock pulley combo. For an automatic trans a billet flex plate is required when making higher power. It hurts to hear these guys talk down on this kit when admintuning gots Gs/Zs going against the world out here.

I wish turbokits dot com wasn't so expensive. I have a 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 automatic, almost near 58,000 miles now. I have driven it for three years I think. I don't know too much about cars, but I started doing research a few months ago during quarantine and learned more. I wrote down an entire mod list on word document. I contacted a shop who said they can install turbo kits, and they gave me their rate. The problem with Genesis Coupe is there are only a few aftermarket places left, and very few ECU tunes. It almost seems as though I would have to go to those places to get them tuned, but they are too far away. I am still confused on ECU. I was under the impression any tune shop with dyno could do custom ECU. Genesis is mostly AlphaSpeed, SFR, and Haltech if I had the money. That is the other problem. I wasted ten years of this life going to school. I graduated with my bachelor's in December 2018, did an amazing Summer internship in 2019, and now I have no job and not making during coronavirus apocalypse tribulation. If I ever did the get the money, I may have to rethink turbokits because their kit adds up from $4,895.00 to $7,000+ with everything extra added on. Remnant Performance kit with 76mm turbo is around $4,000, but then the extra money could spent on parts like rods, pistons, exhaust, etc. And they also released their new headers within the past month. I think their kit can get as high as turbokits in horsepower.

I take that kit off your customer and make more horse power. It's the tune or supercharger. The boost response of the supercharger should tell you what is going on. There should have been a boost line on the dyno graph or boost guage. If the boost is right and the airfuel ratio and ignition timing is right you will make more power. If your slipping then your going to loose boost and hence horse power. There should be no slipping as slipping means loss of power. I think you should be compensated for the hard start issue and the challenges getting it to run.

  • @justhere4721
    @justhere4721 3 года назад

Anyone looking to buy this kit, make sure you upgrade the super charger pulley , cooler and get a custom tune at a dyno shop. The reason why it's so restrictive on power is so they can give you a warranty and I believe you still keep your factory warranty if installed at a dealer.

Thanks for posting the video. Seeing how hard it was to get basic results is meaningful to someone like me that is new to supercharging.
That being said, I am a physical scientist, and I think you guys were scant on listing testing parameters and your methodology. Frankly, what you posted is really bad science. You are implicitly making a thermodynamic criticism of two convoluted things: Stillen's mechanical design, and the actual tune, without actually following through with a well-formed experiment.
I would have been more convinced of your conclusions if you measured things like airflow and temperature near the intake. Also, what gas did you use? What kind of dyno test did you run? Can you describe the software tuning parameters from your successive tunes? Also, did you try to double check your dyno calibration against another dyno? That would be the first thing a scientist would do when they see an unexpected result. I'm sure you guys have experience with cars, but it is only reasonable to expect a more thorough assessment before you post a conclusion.

Maybe touch base with Moncef Faik at Admin Tuning here in Houston. Running his tune and upgraded charge pipe, these kits should make 450 wheel easy. Moncef can remote tune, I think the cost was 300$. If the customer isn't willing to spend the extra 300$ after buying a $7500 SC kit, then that is on them.
For what it's worth, you are right here. There is no reason to spend $7500 on a SC kit when you can save for another few months and buy a TT or BT kit that will push 500-600 WHP on the stock block. With the other small required upgrades and tune, you're looking at 10k for one of those kits out the door. Looks like this poor bastard paid about the same and barely makes the same WHP as a full bolt-on NA car with a good tune.
    Sad...

If I purchase a FBO setup for my Z, CAI/Headers/Test Pipes/Catback/etc., and take it to your shop and pay you to install everything, but refuse to pay for a custom tune made for my specific parts setup. Is it OK for me to be mad at the manufacturers of those parts and/or the shop because I only make 298 WHP and my CEL is on all the time?
I get what you're saying here, really. I'm 90% on your side. Stillen should be held in contempt here for a couple things:
      1. Selling a product that costs over 7 grand installed that barely makes the same power as a stock 370 with a CAI, exhaust, and tune -IF- the pre-packaged garbage tune is used.
      2. Shipping the kit with a bad belt or improperly fitted belt, and providing a 'perfect' tune that doesn't even allow the car to start, much less make power.
However, what I take issue with is that using the Stillen tune even happened. If I was the customer, I would expect you, the professionals, to let me know that the pre-packaged Stillen tune is garbage. That being said, it's just as much on the customer to do their research here as it is on you to inform them. 10 minutes on Google will make this fact obvious. This SC kit is not a bad product. It just needs a proper custom tune and an upgrade to the cheap charge pipe in order to deliver. Not cool, but it is what it is. In my opinion, as long as the shop makes it clear that the new setup needs a custom tune in order to make the advertised power, then the shop has done their due diligence and can't be held responsible. It's all on the customer at that point. As long as you guys made that clear, then this situation is 100% on the customer.
This kit is not a garbage product, as long as the buyer manages their expectations and is willing to follow up correctly after the purchase.
