      There is 1 clear G.O.A.T.
Lebron has had the most combined all-stars, shooters, veteran minimum notables, and teammates taking paycuts to stack his teams from top to bottom. MJ leads Lebron 21-7 in every Advanced analytic, Per stat, and major accomplishment, which includes scoring championships, all-defensive first teams, MVPs, DPOY, PER, Offensive rating, Defensive rating, O/D Rating Diff, W/S per 48, BPM, Career Winning Percentage, NBA championships, Finals MVPs, Finals losses, Finals W/L record, Playoff winning percentage, Career PPG, Steals per game, Blocks per game, FT%, and less Turnovers per game. Lebron's only 7 categories are TS%, VORP (Longevity), Finals Appearances (Most help all-time), assists per game, rebounds per game, FG%, and 3P%. Kareem outscores Lebron in these categories 14-11, having a better resume himself. Just below is how MJ scores against other all-time greats...
      Kareem - 14
      Lebron - 11
      MJ vs. Kareem (16-9)
      MJ vs. Lebron (21-7)
      MJ vs. Magic (18-10)
      MJ vs. Duncan (21-5)
      MJ vs. Russell (11-4)
      MJ vs. Shaq (19-6)
      MJ vs. Wilt (14-2)
      MJ vs. Durant (22-6)
      MJ vs. Curry (22-5)
      MJ vs. Bird (21-6)
      MJ vs. Kobe (24-3)
      MJ vs. Hakeem (22-5)
Lebron only shoots a higher FG% than MJ due to the number of shots he takes at the rim. Lebron shoots below 40% from beyond 3 feet of the rim for his career. Lebron has the liberty of shooting so much in the paint because of all the floor spacing shooters he has had, and there's no big centers waiting on him in the paint. MJ was a major floor spacer from midrange for his team, having only 1-2 shooters for a select number of minutes in any game. Also, the bigger the position, the higher their FG% is supposed to be. Lebron only shooting a decimal higher is actually bad when it's put into context. Switch Lebron and MJ's shooting charts, and you'll be absolutely shocked how high MJ's FG% would be if he shot from where Lebron does. Same with how low Lebron’s FG% would be shooting from where MJ did. Lebron only shoots a higher percentage at one place from distance, and that's from beyond the 3 point line. But that's only because of the emphasis causing players today to practice and shoot from there more often. In the only 3 seasons that MJ shot 3 or more attempts from beyond the ark, his percentages were 37.4, 37.6, and 42.7 (higher than Lebron ever shot from beyond the ark)...
Imagine if Lebron had 1 all-star, 3-4 good role players, and some bums to fill out his roster for up to 7 years of his career while playing in the tougher conference, kind of like MJ. Then Lebron would have what? 2-3 finals appearances max? 1-2 championships max? Maybe considered a top 20 player of all-time at best? Lebron, having the most help all-time to get into the top 3 conversation, has tainted his own legacy and shouldn't be put ahead of Kareem. If people still talk about Bill Russell (RIP) to this day for having so much help and have him all over their top 10 all-time lists, then Lebron’s legacy is also tainted forever...
MJ was one of the greatest all-around players of all-time. He once averaged 32.5/8/8 for an entire season, 11.4 assists in the 1991 finals, and a triple double over a span of several weeks while playing PG. MJ handed basketball duties over to Pippen after his horrific rookie season, at Phil's request, to help him grow into a decent teammate for the betterment of the team. MJ would then focus on his two-way specialty game so Pippen could be productive for the team as well. But Pippen never put up the stats mentioned above that MJ put up earlier in his career. Don't listen to the narratives that the media has to put out there for their own ratings. They needed to manufacture a fake goat in MJ's absence for the NBA's ratings and their own. But they'll eventually tell more truth when Lebron’s gone for some time, while they lift a new star for ratings...

There's so many things that make MJ the GOAT that are never talked about. He was a master at escaping the trap, go look at the old videos when teams tried to trap him.. good luck. Now look at any players in the modern era, get trapped all the time. MJ was a master at stopping the momentum of the other team to keep them from going on a run. He would back down the other team's best player and either dunk on him hit fadeaways over him, and then lock him down on the other end of the court. It's not just MJ could score, and MJ could defend, MJ was a level above everyone in just about every aspect of basketball.

    • @christianbalty3463

He was a master of using double and triple teams to his advantage. So many plays where he evades double teams by seeing it quickly and spinning away or where he recognises where it’s coming from and uses the defender’s momentum so they end up crashing into each other.

Same with Jordan. He is known for mastering the craft of Basketball even by people that never ever held a Basketball in their hands, let alone know anything about the history, rules, players,...you name it. They'll go: "nah, Basketball is not my cup of tea, i know Jordan though"
What that means is, he is the benchmark of Basketball. It will be forever linked to him. Same with Mozart and classical music, where also even Mozarts' big time contemporarys went, "damn...this child will make us all look like amateurs in times to come"

Once you understand the advanced stats I think it gives you a greater appreciation for people that impact the game in ways that aren't on your typical stat sheet.
People with big numbers but not great advanced stats are going to be the stars that get a lot of points but never make it far in the playoffs.
PER is a rating of a players per minute value. (15 is average) I'm not sure on the whole formula, but it's basically what your contribute positively - what you do bad.
+/- is how many points you contribute per 100 possessions. The average is 0. Stars are around a 4. All time great season is close to a 10, an MVP season is around an 8.
TS% is true shooting percentage. It basically converts all field goals into one. Basically, FG% isn't accurate because 3s are harder to hit than 2s but are worth more. If you hit 33% of 3s and 50% of 2 then then true shooting percentage is 50% as 0.33*3 is 1 point per attempt and 0.5*2 is 1 point per attempt. If you're a 70% free throw shooter and you get 2 free throws, then that's 0.7*2 or 1.4 points every time at the line. Basically, a good free throw shooter is highly valuable in basketball.
PIE is basically a percentage out of 100 of how much of the games events were related to the player.
In my opinion these are the most important ones to evaluate a player.
      +/-
      PER
      PIE

@@jaimesilva1990 Like I said, I would need to know the exact formula used to come to these numbers to see them as a go to method of player evaluation.
Context is key. FG% can be deceiving because it doesn't account for distance. Shaq is not a better shooter than Michael Jordan even though his career FG% is significantly higher. front court players will always have a higher FG% than backcourt players because they play closer to the basket. this is further substantiated when you see how these big men are consistently below average free throw shooters. Shaq shot damn near 50% from the line for his career. The touch you have on your shot is demonstrated in your ability to hit your free throws which is why your perimeter specialists hit their FTs in the high 80 and even 90 percentiles.
You don't need to be an expert in advanced stats to know this. You just need to understand the game of basketball.

The eye test alone is all any normal human needs. To see the shit he did every night- every night jn those days had to have been memorizing. Modern, all-time greats have amazing moves and plays that he pulled off and topped dozens of times. Over and over. He left it all on the court. For the fans. For his franchise🙃looking at it how he moved, how he operated thirty years ago was mesmerizing. Thirty years later we still don’t see that shit. realizing it’s physically impossible to see that type of shit ever again- over and over again- and haven’t to this day o it side of individual “career highlights”; that’s all you need to know. The accolades solidify that shit. Stats are just the icing on the cake. But once you see it you know. If you argue you’re just lying and likely have daddy issues and a Broccoli top hair cut.

Advanced metrics are overhyped when it comes to winning vhampioinships, mostly. Case in point MJ's 88 season and some of the others before he won chips, he had better overall numbers and better advanced numbers than when he learned to sometimes take a back seat to teammates and get them involved, which lead to more winning. That being said, when you combine the stats with the cluthc winning playoff record, and you can only and simply conclude that Michael is the best and it's not even close. The fact that it's close in some peoples' minds shows how unintelligent and/or uninformed we are as a society lol.

The narrative that Jordan had to "learn" how to win with teammates is a bit murky. He won as a freshman in college with multiple NBA-caliber teammates and had no problem blending in. The bottom line is that he simply didn't have the horses to win in the NBA until 1990 and if you look at the ECF Game 7 against the Pistons, Jordan was the only one who showed up with his supporting cast shitting the bag. Just talking about the 1988 season, he had a usage rate of 34.1 and did not win the title. But he had a usage rate of 34.7 in 1992-93 and won the title.

They didn’t even exist during Jordan’s time, so it’s even more impressive that Jordan is at the top of every major advanced statistical category despite not playing for them. For example, these days, it’s widely considered that the midrange shot is the most inefficient shot, so you would think Jordan’s advanced analytics wouldn’t be good, but he was so good at shooting that it basically didn’t matter to him.

Leading the league in PER with over 31, win shares, ws/48 over .300, BPM, VORP. Plus 3 MVPs and one Runner up. MJ never achieved this. If Joker continues to dominate like this he should have a legitimate goat case.

    • @theresak2024
      @theresak2024 4 месяца назад

Joker only recently knocked Jordan off the top spot for All Time PER, Win Shares per 48, Box plus minus etc... Jordan now stands at number 2 All Time in these major advanced stats. It is important to note, however, that Joker is currently only 29 years old, still in his prime, he hasn't experienced his 'past prime' years yet which will undoubtedly bring his final stats down, it will be interesting to see where he ranks in advanced metrics once he has retired.
Joker has indeed had a great 4 year stretch but MJ led the NBA in major advanced stats an incredible 61 times in his career, that's the most by any player in NBA history, Kareem is 2nd on the list with 54. Also, Jordan's advanced stats include his Wizards years, when he played with significant injuries (broken ribs, back spasms, tendinitis in his knees and wrist), yet despite playing injured for 2 years, he still ranked number 1 All Time in most major advanced metrics!
Joker is a great player but he has a very long way to go to reach MJ's level. Advanced stats is only one factor, Jordan's GOAT status is based on several factors... his combination of Team and Individual accolades, accomplishments and records are still unmatched. Additionally, MJ dominated the NBA on BOTH ends of the court in what was a very tough, physical league, whilst consistently elevating his performance on the biggest stage, the Playoffs/Finals. Joker is nowhere near MJ's level defensively and is also playing in an Era that heavily favours the offensive player, nobody can deny that the lack of defense being played in today's Era has led to a massive inflation when it comes to offensive stats.
Don't get me wrong, I love Joker, in particular his fundamentals, he is clearly the best player in the world right now and the fact is, if he continues on his current trajectory, he will finish his career as an All Time Great... As you said, time will tell but I just don't think he will rise to MJ's level.

Jordan is great. Top 10fosho which is an anomaly given how many players played this game. But wilt is the goat hands down. Him and bill are 1 and 2 above all others.
Analytics are severely flawed as most don’t even have a single trace or representation of dating back before certain eras like the late 60s. Also things like usage rate continue to assume correlation is causation when it is not at all just like the flawed debunked pace argument claiming pace makes stats inflated in the 60s when it’s actually the opposite given the comp rules circumstances coaching style of play pace etc… these things assume correlation is causation and assume if a player has a usage rate individually higher than others that it’s harder to win totally ignoring the teams greatness relative to the comp cohesive unit vs cohesive unit. This is further proven by the ignoring of jordan losing thru the entire 80s and only winning when things got far less difficult in the 90s as his team and situation and rules got far easier
Analytics is also made up by someone who can’t pick up a basketball whim admitted that there’s tremendous flaws with their made up point system. U don’t use analytics to determine whose greater than who. You use abilities comp obstacles circumstances versatility dominance over position and impact.
And the goat is clearly wilt there.
But even if u wanna use traditional stats and analytics and awards and abilities and physical gifts and obstacles and impact and comp and circumstances it all favors wilt Chamberlain yet again far more than jordan or any other player ever
U literally have to focus on small things to say someone specifically is the goat over wilt but going by what truly matters or by everything possible, no one has more of some things over wilt to the extent wilt has more of some things over them.
End of the day, jordan is an all time great Fosho but nothing will ever change the fact that Wilt has far more of a gap in his favor over jordan in rule changes cuz of his impact, records, traditional stats across the board postseaon or reg season, harder hof comp, harder rules, harder circumstances, more physical abilities, more versatility, obstacles, more dominance over position etc… than jordan could ever dream to have more championships, awards, and analytics over wilt Wilt is far closer in those things than jordan is closer to wilt in the other areas
Same goes for all others in nba history. Wilt is the goat

LeBron fans vomiting the analytics stuff to “prove” he’s the goat are delusional. They like to pick and choose what suits their theory. Nothing, anywhere shows LeBron is the goat. His failures, quitting, horrible body language, teammate and coach destroying, etc cancels him immediately

Jordan didn't lead his team, his teammates helped him to thrive. The Wizards Jordan didn't have teammates to help him ,so he failed down to earth. To respect him, players from other teams just let him shoot , much like Kobe's last game, no players from the other side really guarded him. The Hornet Jordan was even worse, he didn't know how to build a team, how to recruit players, how to guide them to play. Well, he is a successful business man, give him credit.

Laughable.... Wizards had a 19-63 record the year before Jordan unretired, and 25-57 after Jordan retired again. Jordan took this big pile of trash to 26-21, 5th in EC before his injury, and a combined 67-75 record in two years he played. In other words he basically added 12 to 18 wins a year to this big pile of trash when most of the time playing on one healthy leg, and could have singlehandedly carried them to playoff if he didn't suffer that injury

@@jackyjackson604o yeah? Then go look at lebrons teams he joins and leaves. The bulls won 55 games without MJ. Lebrons teams don’t make playoffs without him. That includes Miami with wade or Bosh. The cavs twice. Please tell me who had a better team around them?

@@MrMex44 Stop, making fake arguments devoid of context. What happened to the Bulls the next year before MJ came back? They were barely of .500, how come you don't talk about that?
How come you also fail to mention the COMPLETE IMPLOSION OF THE TEAM! Lebron was not the only person that left, that entire team was dismantled. Miami lost Wade and Bosh due to them being injured 1/2 of the season.
How about you tell me in 2008 and 2009 when Lebron had the best team in the NBA winning 59+ games and failed to make the Finals???
But that doesn't seem to be something you wanna talk about since you dodged this same question in a different comment.
