people see Jordan's competition in the playoffs and finals and there's only 1 star on the team and they think Jordan faced weaker competition. but that's not true. teams were just built differently back then. most teams had 1 star that they built around, sometimes 2 if they fit well together like Stockton and Malone. in LeBron's era, partially due to his own decision to form a super-team in Miami, a lot of teams tried to get 2 or 3 superstars together to form super-teams. these teams on paper seem more intimidating but they had no depth. just look at the Suns this year as an example of how that kind of team building is very risky. the only reason it worked for the Warriors so well is because their stars were all drafted and on cheaper contracts. i do think LeBron has faced better competition in the Finals, but he also got to so many Finals because he was playing in an atrociously weak Eastern conference. LeBron beating the 73-9 Warriors might be a more impressive single Finals victory than anything Jordan did (if you don't get into the Draymond suspension), but the overall body of work favors Jordan (slightly), in my opinion.

Also, many "superstars" today are overrated, they are not tht good to earn the term superstar, they're just super famous for the NBA but they're stars at best. A duo like Malone and Stockton today is arguably superior to whatever 2 you choose from the Clippers, because they have too many "stars" that just don't work well together and can't really carry their own weight on defense. More like a bunch of Divas.

It was “THE LEASTERN CONFERENCE!” When Lebron played in the East and won Championships in 2012, 2013 and 2017, he only faced TWO “50 Win Teams!” Michael Jordan played in a much tougher and physical Eastern Conference. In 1991, 92 and 93, when Jordan won Championships, he had to face FOUR “50 Win Teams” and ONE “60 Win Team.” Almost 3X as many as Lebron!!! In order to advance to the Finals for his First 3Peat, Jordan had a lot harder road to travel than Lebron.

If you've seen that, how is this a conversation? If you haven't, you should just stop talking.
BTW equally revealing would be lowlight reels of both. Lebron's would be an endless litany of shame. Whereas, for MJ, I'm pressed to think what you'd even put on there.

MJ has a winning record 10-6 against All NBA talent, but LeBron has a losing record 6-12 against All NBA talent and his Finals record of 22-33 and Finals Series 4-6 proves that he can’t beat the best players so he can’t be the Goat 🐐
    Disclaimer:
I know there’s all these factors involved that you have to take into account, like team, role players and coaches, but MJ only played with 1 Top 75 players and Dennis 😂 and LeBron played with like 14 or something like that. If Jordan could 3 Pete with just Scottie and role players, why couldn’t LeBron 3 Pete with Wade and Bosh 😮 he went to 4 straight and if you the Goat 🐐 phuck all the excuses, you win all 4 and then you the Goat, leaving no doubt, but you had the greatest mental breakdowns and I just can’t get passed that 6-10 against elite competition, especially with losing to Curry 1-3 😮 with a sweep

A Lebron in the 90's not getting back or saying he is tired would get it from the team, teammates and coach. It is a different era, but man do player get away with a lot nowadays. The complaning all the time would be technical in the past, a Larry Bird playing with Lebron would probably have punch him for not getting better effort or getting is butt in the post. A kobe teammate to Lebron would have yeall at him for not getting better at his fondamentals. The game of basketball is played to win the rest is secondary and on that Jordan is unmatch compare to Lebron. No threepeat even when he was in Miami with a weak east is just bad.

Jordan dominant period was during the expansion era which turned the 90s into a gap of true superteams compared to 80s and the later team ups of Dunan and Robinson and Shaq and Kobe and finally the Big three in Boston and you've basically needed almost a super team to win since. In the 90s you simply couldn't have as many stars on any team because there was suddenly more teams and teams had to drop players as with the Bad Boys no longer being the Bad Boys after winning their first title and losing Mahorn to the expansion draft. Any all time player who played in the period would have competed under the same conditions and it's just a factor of their date of birth that renders this dynamic absolutely irrelevant when people focus on it in terms of how many greats were teammates and opponents on individual teams they faced when winning. Lebron played on more stacked teams and played more stacked teams and that evens out on both sides and makes it a non point. These more stacked teams played under different rules tho which creates enormous difficulties as to concluding which teams are better and you can't just look at rosters and numbers and also when stats are now so inflated by a ton of more possessions a game.

Very cool comparison. This doesn't take into accout the level of skill in either era, though. I would love to hear an argument about how today's NBA players are all a product of MJ, being much more skilled, and athletic becuase of the advances in training. I say if you drop LBJ, Paul George, Luka, KD, Devin Booker, etc into Jordan's era, they would be UNGUARDABLE! There was the hand check, though.
Shaq, was one of the main things that affected the league, in the 90's, because every team had to carry multiple big men to be able to defend him. This probably stunted the growth of skill bigs , because you're just gettingguys who can handle being bullied by Shaq. Jordan never played versus an Embid, Porzingis, or Jokic. You can say MJ played against better comp by the numbers, but you're comparing apples to oranges when it comes to skill level.

MJ played during a tougher era when bums weren’t scoring 20-40-50 pts on any given night like they do today. There’s no defense, traveling is clearly allowed, and you can palm the ball in today’s game. That matters a lot when it comes to offense. Lebron is a manufactured superstar that was literally babied into this league and played most of his career in the weakest era of eastern conference basketball. Funny to note how he can’t win since going to the west coast. I know that he won during the pandemic, but nobody counts that due to limited competition. The bubble was a complete joke, and shouldn’t count at all.

  • @clive55

Always a fruitless task comparing players over different eras. The game today is fundamentally different from 80's and 90's basketball and in my humble opinion, far less appealing and attractive to watch.
However, I think it would be fair to say that the game over the last 10 years has probably produced, on average, the best pure shooters to ever play the game. This makes sense as that is what the game requires today.
In terms of how MJ'S skills translate over time, to today's game, I have no doubt he would likely be even more unstoppable than he was back in the day. This seems fair to say as many past and current players believe he would average 50 in today's league should he decide to.
On the other hand, LeBron would no doubt have some success if he were to play back in the 90's, if for no other reason than his pure athletic ability, but, I honestly don't believe he would have anywhere near the success he has had if he had been playing against centres like, Hakeem, Ewing, Shaq, Robinson and even Kareem in the mid to late 80's.
Its also worth considering the number of rule changes that took place at the turn of the century, all these were carefully designed to make the game less physical and easier to score.
