    My secret at painting with my off-hand is to fail a lot until you eventually get better, lol. I think Cristine's advice is more helpful!
    Also one tiny thing that could actually help, when painting all 10 fingers, I do my other hand first because I have more patience and attention at the beginning.

      if you're doing a design too, it's also easier to match you non-dominant hand if you start with that one, instead of doing the good one first and then struggling to match the design on the other hand.
      oh, and if it's really messy and you're still learning, you can get someone else to put liquid latex or protective peel around the edges of your off hand, that way the cleanup is easier

    fun fact, there is a fourth catagory for handedness - mixed-handed!
    it's sorta like ambidextrous, but you can do certain things well with one hand (write with your right hand, etc) and other things well with the other hand. So which hand is your dominant hand depends on the activity. My brother is mixed-handed :)

      This happened to me kind of by accident or because of trauma. (I'll figure it out in therapy)
      I was initially left-handed, but my teachers insisted I write with my right hand. I had no other choice at school. So now I write pretty horribly with my right hand and I do everything else with my left. I didn't notice until a friend pointed it out. Apparently right-handed people just don't brush their teeth with their left hand🤔

    • @kristinhoward5077
      @kristinhoward5077 2 года назад +13

      Yes! I grew up without a word for what I was, so I just say right-handed because I write only with my right hand and the left feels unnatural, which seem to be the determining factor for classification. But I naturally did a lot of things with my left hand, favored my left in all sports, and other than writing, I unconsciously switch which hand or side I'm using mid task or activity if it's convenient. I didn't even notice until it was pointed out to me in elementary school. Regardless, I've always said I'm right handed (sometimes with a shrug and quick explanation of my weird switchiness in some things)

    As soon as I heard you talk about anchoring your painting hand, I was like "fulcruming"! In dental it is hugely important to fulcrum "place a fingertip on something solid (tooth) close to the work area" because the tools we use can be sharp and you want to be as stable as possible. 👍 Excellent tips.

    0:35 She said your "other hand" is your non-dominant hand. But wouldn't it be your dominant hand that is the hardest to paint since you are using your non- dominant hand to paint your dominant hand? So for example I am right handed. I paint best with my right hand so my left hand's nails always look the best. That makes my right hand (dominant hand) my "other hand" i.e. the crappy looking one.

    • @lrizzard
      @lrizzard 2 года назад +20

      i think its because she changed the sentence mid-sentence, and also phrased it weird. i thought she said the opposite hand as synonimous for non-dominant, and then went on to explain that her "other hand" is the one she paints with non-dominant, i.e. her other hand is the dominant hand 😂 she took a detour while explaining it though

    My biggest hack for painting with my non dominant hand is to paint my dominant hand first. Because then when I go to paint my other hand I’m less likely to smudge because I can control that hand better and by painting one hand fully before starting the second it’s already in its way to drying.

      Really common for lefty because we live in a right hand world so when we learn things the example is always with the right hand and the objets too. So it happen that we try and exercise things with the right hand instead of translating it with our dominant hand. • @nikkafrog
      @nikkafrog 2 года назад +3

      Be careful on how long you wait between the base and color. I was actually suprised cristine didn't know this. But you dont want the base coat to fully cure before adding you color. Base coats are made to be tack-dry to bond properly with the polish. It is the same idea of why you dont add color on top of a top coat. You want it bond together and become one solid layer. Otherwise it will flake off layer by layer. So if you ever have you polish pull off in one layer, but there is still polish underneath, this is why. It do not properly bond to the layer below it.
      You also dont want to prep you nails in advanced before doing the manicure. Try to do it within 5 min. Otherwise you base coat wont stick to the nail plate. Did this once and nothing stayed.

    The eczema tidbit - I feel so seen! Recently got it on my hands and it's painful and so irritating that lotions don't really help! I know right! It's just about impossible to find anything that moisturizes without burning or even causing bleeding. And depending on where the eczema is I've had people stare like it was contagious or gross..If you're in the US you could try out Green Goo (I don't know if they are anywhere else or how much shipping would be) They have a few different products but I randomly ran into their dry skin balm in the store when I had a hooooorrrriibbbllleee eczema rash on my hands from dish soap. The day I found it I had used my coworkers lotion to try and relieve the irritation and it made me burn and I had little cracks that bled. The dry skin balm was seriously a life saver. The patch took a month or so to finally go away completely but literally by the first day it was so much better. It is kind of oily though so it's best to use a small amount or make sure you rub it in well. I'm sorry if you're not able to get it I'm not familiar with any alternatives since it just happened to be the first thing for eczema I've tried.

    • @lrizzard
      @lrizzard 2 года назад +5

      lil tip: moisturizers without fragrance tend to not irritate broken skin as much. also if you find a (good) lip balm i find they are actually made suitable for broken skin and they tend to be actually soothing and repairing. i use lipbalms anywhere on my body that needs some moisture and repairing. (theres a brand blistex here but it may have a different name elsewhere.)
      i dont have eczema but i have some skin picking problems paired with insanely sensitive skin so i always have to find what works best on cut skin 😭

    i do a lot of random techniques like these, i def do a mix of pulling my hand away/ moving the hand that’s holding the brush. i always just do it out of habit. i never knew people didn’t know to do that.

    When you add arthritis in to the mix then it gets complicated. I can't spread my fingers flat on a surface as my fingers are bent inwards to a degree. My thumbs are OK, and my pinkie finger but the other three on each hand are bent. I really can be hard to get it right. However, I've found nail wraps now, and it means I don't make a mess on the sides of my nails. Because my fingers are stiff, it's not as easy as it should be to apply the wraps but I've been practising and it's getting a bit easier. Problem is that the wraps can be quite expensive, though they last me for about 2 to 3 weeks (or until I get bored with them) whereas polish is cheaper. I usually to a clear top coat on the wraps to help them last longer.

    Meh , i can paint my nails on both hands without even needing a table and i hold the nail polish bottle with the hand im painting while laying on my bed watching crap on RUclips.
    Any bugger ups are alway hidden by revianail clear nail strengthener.
    It hides all bush lines every time without fail and any polish on your skin comes off with a nail brush when washing your hands once the polish is dry or just have a shower.
    Paint on skin gone!

  • @masoflip
    @masoflip Год назад +1

    To add to the stabilising of hands, I don't stabilise the hand itself, but the arms. Either by having the elbow on the table, or, because I am a cripple (really fucked up back), I often sit-lay in a big comfy chair, or in my bed, and I rest the middle of my underarm against my belly, and that way the arm and hand isn't shaking.
    Everyone can find a solution to work with their situation, but it doesn't mean you have to do your nails by a desk.
    I have a couple of ikea's computer rests with a bean-pillow underside, and that works wonders for me as an in bed table. I have a full set up where I use a shot glass to hold my acetone, and I have my gel polishes, curing lamp, wipes and pads ++ anything I might need.
    (I once spilled a whole half-full shotglass of acetone in bed, but we're not telling my husband, ok? :p )

    Ok, gotta go back, re-watch to catch name of the rubber trim peel off stuff as THAT was the nicest consistency one I’ve ever seen but trying is when you become a diehard loyal supporter or ya walk/run! It look amazeballs tho!!!!
    You keep being YOU Girl as you are not JUST brilliant at what you do as well as teaching minions such as my dribbling fool self, but you are hilarious and make this lurnin thing fun!
    Great job and that you for sharing your extensive grey matter with us, your 🧠 is priceless! (PS: as someone who DOES wear that white coat as a career….ya DO KNOW that a) Meredith is NOT a REAL PERSON…correct? And b) She’s not a REAL DOCTOR either? Right?
    (Please agree with me as no one WANTS a psych evaluation over the holidays as much as most of my family receives warning letters outlining how the holidays CAN go or WILL go but it is completely their choice!😁👍🏻
    PS: YOU, my beautiful woman, only said ‘eh’ ONCE! The pride I have for you!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
    PPS: Ambidextrous just to raise your ambi count..
    PSS: eczema …. Hon, JUST had one of THE worst cases I’ve seen in a long time if not EVER….. I felt terrible for this lovely gentleman and as you know, it is a “time” vs “instant” heal for the most part BUT….as much as it’s impolite to nudge through an ER curtain and open with “ I couldn’t help but overhear…” when you’re ALSO A PATIENT…… a lovely and kind elderly woman said her mother had horrific eczema flare ups and “the ONLY ‘instant’ relief she ever was able to get was a concoction of ACV.” And this woman SWORE that it would help this poor man in minutes if we would just try….as there are creams, salves, pills and powders but again…time as well as predisposed conditions and contraindications with other medications had us in a corner and as I said….a very very bad flare up if ever I’ve seen one…so it did not take me long to bend to her will if he was game, which he was and ACV…well, depending on his present ph levels, this could only go one of two ways….. so here’s the info and this is by no means MY info or recommendation but it was darn incredible so I’ll give credit where credit is due!!!!
    So, 1C of Warm (20-22 Celsius) H20 and yes, and mix in a Tblsp of ACV AND YES, organic if possible as she told me, Then (as she said soak old rags and place over inflamed areas) crazy me, I chose sterile Tefla Pads, 4x4” were as big as we had and I soaked them in the bowl with ACV AND H20 and while her instructions were to leave him alone for 2-3 hours and he’ll be right as rain, bless her heart, I chose to have a LPN CONTINUE TO soak new Telfa pads and keep the liquid warm as well as him with warm blankets as the areas of concern were from the tips of his fingers and bilaterally up his arms to the back of his neck. This poor poor gentleman was putting on a brave face but after this many years of looking into eyes, you learn to spot pain a mile away. Both the imagined and the actual….HE was in PAIN or as we would say 8/10 which is high.
    Well, after my LPN diligently, gently and with precision Continued this for almost 4 hours, we removed and did a sterile rinse and I had been monitoring his ph level from admission to post sterile saline rinse which was approx 5.5 and once he was gently dried off and then a 50/50 mix of CeraVe ointment and body moisturizer placed on the affected area with a thin sterile non stick surgical drape to protect his clothes from not only the ointment on his skin but also IF by ANY CHANCE he had ANY S. aureus on his clothing I’d rather keep him as clean as possible until he could get home into FRESHLY CLEAN PJs And then F/U with his GP the following week.
    Well, not only did his GP phone and ask me what or whom I sacrificed from my staff to Sauron to “CURE” -yes-his words-! His LONG SUFFERING eczema patient as he had tried EVERYTHING BUT contacting Sauron himself, however was not against throwing his ex in the mix if it would help this lovely gentleman…LOL-medical people have very dark & twisted senses of humor….so I explained the story and this lovely man has NEVER been so happy, pain free and as he quoted his patient “felt soooo FREE and able to do ANYTHING (or as MUCH AS HE COULD AT HIS AGE) In his life!”!!!
    Sooooo beautiful, there’s a thought and a share for you as “IN the box” thinking when it comes to medicine and expensive or experimental drugs are most definitely NOT NOT NOT ALWAYS THE ANSWER and we MUST learn from our own history that “Grandmother did indeed know best!” Many many of the times….this was one MORE of those times and hey girl, YOU have nada to lose except the cost of 2-3 boxes of 4x4 Tefla pads and some Organic ACV (BTW: we ONLY were able to find UNfiltered which I personally would not have preferred had I any choice and I did indeed ‘filter’ it through 2 Telfa pads….just FYI🤷🏼‍♀️…. Something in my ‘gut’ said ok to ACV ORGANIC and even the ‘unfiltered’ part but the unfiltered part was a NO from my gut which I follow a LOT and it’s saved lives when a book or The Chief has said otherwise and I’ve fought for my ‘gut’ & WON soooo??????
    Note to self…follow your gut/instinct/angel/G-d or whatever good voice in your sober and non drug “sponsored” intuition tells you because it’s there for a reason!!!!
    Now darling, YOU KEEP ON BEING YOUR AWESOME SELF but heck, if ur so inclined and u DO give it a shot with that lovely Lady who ‘couldn’t help but overhear…’ her recommendation…please DO let me know how you make out.
    And just an FYI as I said he was elderly but he was very clear as was his GP when he followed up with me, that he’d had ‘this’ since he was 4 or 5 as I recall. Approx 6 DECADES of this…..
    So if it does help at all, then G-d Bless that woman with the hearing of the CIA….
    Regardless, thank you for being you and sharing your amazing gift and talent with us! You are awesome and I personally am grateful for you❤
    Don’t ever change!❤❤❤
    I’ll be back to follow more and learn more.
    I find doing my own nails quite cathartic and while I’m no “Meredith Grey”🙄….it certainly keeps the “ambi” brain working!
    Huge hug and as I said, I personally am grateful for you.
    You are a rare type of human to share so much wisdom so willingly and THAT is a blessing for us!
    (NO more ‘eh’s!!! I get enough crap for being 🇨🇦 LOL!).
    Huge virtual hug and wishing you & yours all of the happiness and peace and millions of dollars that you require to continue to give as you do to others so as to live a beautiful life well deserved❤!

    My Gramma was ambidextrous because she went to Catholic school in the 40s and was left-handed. They still slapped you with rulers back then, and left-handedness was considered a ungodly 🙄 So, she'd go home using her left and was forced to use her right in school. Ended up being able to do things 100% equally as and adult. I remember being confused as a kid b/c she'd just randomly switch back and forth when writing. I was determined to be like Gramma, but at 32 I can still only write at about a 2nd grade level with my left hand 😂 I do eat with both and put my makeup on with both hands equally well though 😁

    This is such a great video. I don't have the patience to stick around through an entire live-stream. I'm about 80% ambidextrous. I can paint a normal painting with my left hand as long as it's not tiny details. I can cut equally with both, operate woodworking equipment with both (and on the bandsaw, better at cutting out details with my left hand), I dance right-legged and play soccer with my left. I write with my right hand, but can only print with my left and it's sad but legible.
    I also have eczema on both hands as well as my hairline (brought on by stress). I have vitiligo only on my right hand and wrist. Everything rejects on my right side (piercings, sutures, etc) and not at all on my left. I swear I'm chimeric, but I'm not paying to find out.
    I'd thought about doing that because me left hand is so shaky, but haven't and I don't know why. This video is full of great tips I'll have to try.
    Thank you!
