So, theoretically, as a disabled person, I would love something *like* this because I rarely am able to paint my nails or go to a salon. However, I wouldn't be able to use this for the same reason--it takes waaaay too long, and how hard it presses down is really concerning. It would be so cool to see something like this that's more effective and lets people use their own polish though! It could help a lot of people. I don't mind the initial cost as much, but proprietary polishes, even if it worked, would make it so pointless.
A home manicurist is a far better solution...trust me ..mobile manicurists and hairdressers are the best..when you find a good one never let go haha xxxx
Yeah, had the same thought, something like this that actually worked for disabled people would actually be really good, especially as not everyone had access to travelling manicurist. Maybe something that actually works will be made one day. Agree how hard it presses is concerning, I was thinking if someone had joint or other health issues in their hands it could be really painful or even cause injury.
The pressure of the machine was my first "oh god, no, that's going to be unusable for so many people". My grandma had a bruising disorder and would get bruises all over her hands and arms from just carrying groceries in. I can't imagine anyone with a similar issue spending $600 on this and coming out with black & blue hands in minutes. That pressure would make the robot completely unusable for basically anyone with problems that affect hands. Such a huge oversight in design.
I feel like just contacting a manicurist and explaining that ur disabled and ask if they could come to you to do your nails would be cheaper and faster
Two hours? 😳 I do a regular polish manicure in 45 minutes in the salon and that includes prep and you get to yap as much as you want 😂 Glad my job is secure from a robot takeover anytime soon lol
This machine has techbro written allllll over it. Traditionally feminine task- check. Activity people actually enjoy doing being replaced by a robot- check. Artistry replaced by mediocre robot result- check!
😆 so the founder made a robot because it took his girlfriend too long to get her nails done and they werent completely dry.... and the robot takes an hour to do a crooked practice manicure that's not completely dry.
and then complained about people "slowing down for beauty" when they go to get pampered or have a chill time painting their nails. The whole marketing for this makes me gag lmao, it's just completely tone deaf...
Using her other hand was a good idea because the crooked middle nail was a good example that despite it “scanning” the nail it can’t change the direction it paints to compensate for variation in nail direction Although it getting the c curve decently was points in its favor Edit: I saw the thumb never mind
@@emilyslicer2843 From what I understand it scans your nails and sends a picture to the cloud where it uses AI to look through like a thousand hand photos they took of random women in Israel as a reference set. Imagine if you were missing a finger or other anomalies. It seems like a huge useless scam tbh.
Okay but using painting your nails as a chance to SLOW DOWN is the absolutely the best reason. It's the only thing that gets my stupid twitchy fingers to stop 😂
As a supposed accessibility device, it should DEFINITELY allow just one hand. I know people who would benefit from this if it worked well, my disabled friend can't travel super safely unless she has a carer with her, so a home salon solution would be great. But it's so out of her price range
Agreed! I got so nervous when it seemed like it was only going to allow two hands, each with 5 fingers. And I've seen a lot of people insisting that a traveling manicurist is the better direction, even if the machine worked perfectly, but yes, disabled people want options too even if it's not a necessity. It could could substitute the feeling of DIY me-time without requiring a stranger be present. Not everyone wants a stranger in their home, especially if cleaning is required or if there's a potential health risk. I'd love to see this tech come to fruition, but knowing a little about the state of robotics and the cost of machinery with fine motor skills, it's unlikely to be available for in-home use for a while. Perhaps if there was a nail-mask that allowed the machine to paint over the edges and the inventor included input from people who knew even a little bit about the nail painting process
Well exactly. How exactly is a one handed person going to paint their own nails? They are prime marketing material for this device. Define programming failure in one word! 🤦🏼♀️
Wow - it's genuinely shocking how bad the results are. I just went and looked at their site to see if maybe it's just not meant for long nails - NOPE. If you look through the "Testimonials" page of their site, the pictures are HORRIBLE! I'm even more incredulous that they think the pictures they're sharing (from real people - not their product photos) are going to sell the product - the robot very clearly doesn't work at all!
@@azuradawn5683 I'm drunk and losing it over Cristine's nail results, then I saw your comment and had to go find the testimonials and I'm just cry-laughing over the cuticle painted nails underneath gushing praise 😂😂😂😂 like people please just go to a salon if you have $600 to throw at this robot
I'm baffled that they didn't use gel, which could have come out 100% dry in a fraction of the time. But probably didn't because they can't be precise enough on the skin.
THIS! Would also shed light on if it's the robo top coat formula that makes it bubbly-wrinkly (or just the hot air) if tested with another brand's colour coat.
So you only did the practice manicure?? That was definitely so that the machine could calibrate to your nails. That’s also probably why you were limited in what nail polish you could use (The more contrast the better it can detect what’s left to paint?). I don’t watch your livestreams so I don’t know, but I would’ve loved to see how how this machine would’ve faired after the calibration- and also how long it would take!

Try pouring out the polish that came with the machine and replacing it with HoloTaco to see if it works better 🤩 I would love to find out if you can refill them yourself and how it reacts.
The thing about going to the salon is that going to the salon is kind of a treat. If I'm running short on time, there's a lady at the salon who can do BOTH hands and have you on your way in less than 30 minutes. It's basic styles, but that's okay. The price is decent and the time out of my day isn't that much. If I have more time and am willing to spend more money, I can get an absolute bomb manicure while being able to move around and TALK TO PEOPLE. What a concept. Yes, it costs money, but not NEARLY as much as this machine, which is not only highway robbery, but kind of a scam.
You should defo try it with liquid latex around your nails, and them being shorter. I would try to make it work by......... USING HOLO TACO in it. Like, removing the polish that came in the small bottles and replacing the product yk? I feel like this could work. Maybe give it another try idk. ❤❤
Unrelated to the robot, but b/c this stream was in the Space Launch era, I have to shout out Waste of Space as an absolute GOAT polish. If you're on the fence about it, absolutely get it!! it's so gooddddddd
If my math is correct, it would take about 2.5 years to start saving money. The average cost of a manicure in the US is $45, so with a machine upfront cost of $600 and a per manicure cost of $5 for polish, it would take 15 uses to break even, 16 uses to start saving money. However, this isn't a full manicure. It's better compared to a polish change which averages $15 in the US, meaning it requires 60 uses to break even and 61 uses to start saving money. If you change your polish every 2 weeks, you'd have to use it for 2.5 years before you'd save money. Keeping in mind that if the company goes under and stops producing the polishes, the machine is worthless since it only works with the company's polishes and the app would also likely be removed or become unusable, so basically if the company goes out of business, the robot just turns into an expensive piece of decoration. (Edit for spelling error)
Not even factoring in that the application is poor, it takes an hour to do each hand, the pressure is so high that it would cause problems for a good portion of people, and you have to be so still all you could do is silently stare at the wall for the 2 hours it takes to do both hands, ending up with nails that are still not smudge proof.
1:58 i wonder if it’s actually the robot in the video and not just a person, they never show the actual robot painting and the brush is coming from different angles
Stuff like this can be really useful for people like me who only have one hand. Even though my manicures are half price it still gets expensive when I w ant pretty nails.
If you want to do your own nails, you could try painting on transparent fullcover tips as press-ons. You can paint those and only stick them onto your nails once they’re done!
i just splurged on a few holo taco products like one coat black and peely base among others, and a friend of a friend of mine is bringing them to me in brasil 🎉🎉
I feel bad because of how expensive it is. Somebody with mobility issues may not be able to paint their nails themselves and going to a salon is expensive. This would allow them to get a manicure at home but God that price
Christine dropping real manicure knowledge around 15 minutes! Yes, don't put hot air directly on your nails as they are drying! Although, if you like the look of bubbles etc that's one way of making polish look that way.
I guess the app/inbuilt computer could make this thing work... it would need to accept feedback like which nail was best/worst, where did it mess up (cuticle flooded/side polishless), and SAVE that feedback to apply in the next paintjob (for the same person). It could accept feedback starting in the scanning phase, I assume it builds some kind of 3D model of the paintable surface... show that model to the user and get feedback like re-scanning needed for a specific finger. Nail lenght changes, but the c-curve and nail width stays pretty stable from week-to-week. Could be cool to "teach" a machine how to do YOUR nails perfectly - personal painter that allows customization like painting just one chipped finger. Ps. Maybe it already has all these things, but this is my first time seeing the machine😉
I can do my own gel nails in 2 hours, which include filing the previous manicure off, cleaning any pockets, moving/cleaning cuticle, prepping the nails, putting new base coat, painting the nails and maybe some simple design or cateye and add top coat + dry each step in lamp... and I am not even a manicure professional, I just do it for myself.
Eevie (LongHairPrettyNails) has a few videos reviewing the Nmble too. She has an interesting video where they cut into the side so you can see in while it paints. It’s is wild how terrible this thing is LOL
$400 is actually much less than i expected this to be. Not like due to high quality or anything, but mostly the audacity of brands nowadays. I was expecting $1-2k .
The fact it won't accept not having four fingers without you having to restart is problematic considering there are people without the full compliment of digits... x
I would love to see a part 2 where you test the robot out on shorter nails… beyyeen. Anyways, i think it malfunctioned because yore nails were simple too long for the machine to reach.
Hi im ur bigger follower from india for past 5 year from starting till now i was so obsessed with you nail polish and ur skill i need to buy ur nail polish at least once when u will deliver ur branded polish for all over Indian follower we are eagerly waiting for that moment ❤
I’d like you to try the nail polishes (all 3) by using them normally yourself. Normal drying times etc. see how they work then. You and long hair pretty nails have both been a part of this process and both of you had the same outcome. I’ll never buy one! 🇦🇺❤️
this product is basically like “wow look at this thriving industry! lets attempt to destroy all the jobs within it with a product thats inferior in every way!”
This robot with SIGNIFICANTLY better coding, probably more/different/differently positioned sensors for the nail scan, gel polish, and a UV light instead of the gross hot fan, could actually be somewhat decent
This machine’s long ass processing time would probably be saved by creating this machine for gel polish instead. And I would probably also add a liquid latex lol haha. But I feel like if the squeeze was reduced it could also work as an accessibility product
Although I often end up with headaches while doing my nails, I’d rather that. Because I’m not messy. To the point I get headaches and, depending on design, may separate it to two separate days. Even tho no one else is looking that closely at my nails 😢
CHRISTINE! I genuinely have a nail polish question regarding this - I use gel nail polishes (mostly all of which are the same brand, I'm assuming they keep the same formula for their creams). I always thought it was a specific issue with the brand I use but after this and further research - WHY IS IT THIS SHADE OF RED THAT WRINKLES? It's the only one I have issues with and I've resorted to double or triple curing it to fix it regardless of coat coverage. Sometimes that doesn't always work.
I'm a slow nail painter because of dyspraxia and perfectionism and just enjoying painting my nails, and even I am quicker than this robot. I have spent hours doing my nails...when I've been doing nail art. Just one colour? An hour? I'm not even good at painting my nails (see: dyspraxia) and I can get two hands painted and tidied within the time it'd take this robot to do one hand.
i dont like doing my own nails but if im gonna be sitting still id rather be sitting still while chatting with the person doing my nails at a salon than having to deal with a robot messing up my hands' already bad blood circulation lmao
Watched this while painting my nails. LOL! I mean, they are trying to do something that might do better with upgrades & tweaks to formulas & air temp, which is cool. & major plus that they have holo! But this machine is not yet the time & mani saver it's being marketed as.
I can't believe this actually came! I remember Christine talking about this FOREVER ago.

*what if you refilled the bottles with holo taco?*
That robot is not worth it. I painted my nails on Tuesday with party of one purple and I am still chip free on Sunday night.
Now we need a Ben vs Bot video. Who does a manicure better challenge!!?? 💪💥💯
I would only pay for the napkin with this manicure
I feel better about my nail painting skills.
Im glad this was a work write off...
this product is basically like “wow look at this thriving industry! lets attempt to destroy all the jobs within it with a product thats inferior in every way!”
Simply is tested by the Gom Jabar
I've seen this movie;
"...put your hand in the box"
I’m dying that she keeps saying “it’s blowing me”
I've always done my nails myself but even I can go faster than this efficient robot 😂
This robot with SIGNIFICANTLY better coding, probably more/different/differently positioned sensors for the nail scan, gel polish, and a UV light instead of the gross hot fan, could actually be somewhat decent
That will be generation 2. Lol
Every time it pressed down all I could think of was Saw trap
This machine’s long ass processing time would probably be saved by creating this machine for gel polish instead. And I would probably also add a liquid latex lol haha. But I feel like if the squeeze was reduced it could also work as an accessibility product
Although I often end up with headaches while doing my nails, I’d rather that. Because I’m not messy. To the point I get headaches and, depending on design, may separate it to two separate days.
Even tho no one else is looking that closely at my nails 😢
YOOOOOOO My comment made it to the highlights let’s G💿💿💿
I remember when you talked about this years ago😂😂
I feel like you and Mark Rober should do a collab and see if she can make a better paint robot. Anyone else?
i dont like doing my own nails but if im gonna be sitting still id rather be sitting still while chatting with the person doing my nails at a salon than having to deal with a robot messing up my hands' already bad blood circulation lmao
Watched this while painting my nails. LOL! I mean, they are trying to do something that might do better with upgrades & tweaks to formulas & air temp, which is cool. & major plus that they have holo! But this machine is not yet the time & mani saver it's being marketed as.
3:59 DETROIT: BECOME HUMAN REFERENCE OR AM I LOSING MY MIND OVER NOTHING!?
I’m really concerned that cristine couldn’t really get her hand out cause of the pressure- that seems dangerous like what if it malfunctions?
