  • We drive the Volvo V40 D4 R Design and give it a through review to see what we think of the potential so called diesel hot hatches.
    Which is the best diesel hot hatch out of the Seat Leon FR 184, the VW Golf GTD or this Volvo V40 D4 re design?
    We have driven all three and give our verdict and thought on this question.
    V40 D4 R Design facts and figures
    0-60 mph = 7.0 seconds
    Topspeed = 140mph
    We get between 42-50 mpg for most general everyday driving for your reference and it is possible to get more than these figures.

    Is this the 2.0d version? I’m looking at one now and wondering the real mpg as il be doing a lot of miles

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews
      @PeakPerformanceReviews  4 года назад +2

      Yes this is the 2.0 litre. It’s a twin turbo motor and is so so smooth for a diesel. Had two now and nothing really touches it that does what it does imo. The real mpg for me (with a very heavy foot) is 45mpg but you can easily achieve 50mpg and even 55-60mpg if you drive carefully. For its power and performance I don’t think there’s a more efficient car out there 👍 let me know what you go for and if you have any more questions and definitely please stick around and subscribe as it’ll be great to have you around 👍👍

    just bought a v40 d4 auto (16 plate) this week......love it especially taking off at traffic lights LOL

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews
      @PeakPerformanceReviews  5 лет назад

      geoffdundee no surprise, they really can surprise some people at the lights that’s for sure. So close to being hot hatch quick and will show a clean pair of heels to a lot of fairly quick cars.
      Style, comfort, mpg and power is not often achieved by many and I feel this car has everything to a T 👍 glad you like.
      Thanks for watching and please stick around and subscribe as it’ll be great to have you on here 👌👍😎

    Hi mate, looking at buying a 16-17 plate d4 as my second car they’re going for around 9k and I just can’t find anything that offers the value and speed it has. The only issue I hear people talk about is the steering can feel a bit sluggish or indirect and the gear box can be “notchy” I’m obviosuly going to test drive them first but is this something you’ve noticed at all?

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews
      @PeakPerformanceReviews  3 года назад +1

      I’ve had 2 different V40 D4’s in 6 years now and I’ve never had sluggish steering or a notchy gearbox. First one way over 100k miles this one now on 90k I find that hard to believe or maybe some isolated issues that have been over dramatised by the few that have had the problems perhaps.
      That being said, make sure any your interested in don’t have this problem and you’ll be fine I’d say.
      Thanks for watching Aaron please stick around and subscribe as it’ll be great to have you around on here 🙌

    Good review throughly enjoyed it especially as I've got my eyes on one of these.Does it really pull as as quick as you say it does? I'm probably going auto.

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews
      @PeakPerformanceReviews  6 лет назад +1

      Justin Small without a shadow of a doubt, once the motor is run in it’s not a million miles of a hot hatch quick. it’s probably quicker than something like a Mini Cooper S, Clio 182 and a Clio 200, things like that. I bought a 2018 version and I’m so happy with it, the Bi Zenon lights are simply amazing.

      They really are nice looking cars and think it will be my next purchase..i owned a V50 T5 and that was a monster.have you driven a D5 V40?If they make them?If so is there much difference between the D4 and D5?

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews
      @PeakPerformanceReviews  6 лет назад

      Justin Small would be a great choice, there isn’t a D5 in the UK and I don’t think the V40 platform anywhere in the world has the D5 motor. The D4 is top line in this model for the diesel range, the T5 is quicker but not by much and only available in an Auto.

    If you remember what was the average MPG you was getting in town and on the motorway as claimed figures are always overestimated

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews
      @PeakPerformanceReviews  4 года назад +1

      Jonathan Kingsley driving fairly hard like I do being a bit of a lead foot I was getting 48mpg for average driving. 50mpg is easy achievable and if driving gently a lot more than that can be achieved. It’s a fantastic balance of huge performance and amazing mpg.

    Have you ever had any egr valve body issues? I hear that is a common fault on the d4 models

      I’ve owned 2 personally over the period of 8 years now and I’ve had zero issues and covered 110000 in each car so for me nope absolutely not I’m happy to report.

    This will be my next car; I have the c30 Volvo D3 5 cylinder and it’s no slouch! Does it have the 5 cylinder growl at hard acceleration as I have with the D3? Good review cheers fella...

    • @PeakPerformanceReviews

      steve newbould I ended up buying one and love it, 3 years owning then bought another.
      It’s genuinely near hot hatch quick.
      I think it sounds fairly nice but i think the 5 cylinders did sound a little nicer and almost more sporty. None the less it’s got a decent sounding motor and it’s swan song is the sublimely un diesel like silky smooth motor. You sometimes don’t realise it’s a diesel ... until you feel the amazing torque ❤️

      Ahoy Vole incredibly, I ended up buying and owning one for 3 years on PCP deal and i had zero problems.
      I’ve since bought another and had it for 1 year already and again nothing has gone wrong at all so far. For record also the last one did 105000 miles yep I do 35000 miles a year as it’s always been used as a work horse and daily.
      Hope you enjoyed the video, stick around as we’ll certainly be doing more like this in the future and I’m sure we’ll feature Volvo more too 👍

      I drive a v40 D4 I bought it at 150.000 and it is now on 260.000km. The only problem I had so far was the EGR valve which gives problems at almost any diesel car.
      I have driven two Renaults those cars only give problems.
