- if you saw the first video how I planted the dawn redwoods from seed check this out and see about about 2 months on of early growth see how much growth they put on how they're developing along their journey.
Some great grows over there. Mimosa is one of the coolest plants. A nice uptick from last video on all of those. Our Kiddo has us growing the most unexpected things as well. Thanks for the share!
I tend to like growing random or rare things, it gets boring doing the same things over and over. Hopefully the weather starts warming up and we can get more things growing
🌸😘🌼👍🏼 beautiful unusual sprouts. 👍🏼🌻🍎 thank you for sharing 👍🏼
Thank you! Keep watching to track them as they progress
Your redwoods look like they’re doing great! I’m curious to see how the pomegranates turn out!
Absolutely! Definitely follow along
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener i wonder too about the pomegranetes :-)
I'm being cautious. I have some planted out and some in containers. Check out my latest video called Trees Everywhere for an update
Man I had dozens that height but with fewer leaves and fertilized too soon or something and killed them.. I think next time I'll focus on using castings to help feed them until they're ready for plant food. I had so many coast reds and dawns sprout, like 80 containers haha. I never expected there to be so many. I was so worried about root rot and damping off that I made the soil too light and had them in sun too soon.
Yea you gotta be careful about fertilizer early on. I just use a very weak mix and only once per month. Don't forget to transition them outside slowly in a shady spot I told they adjust to actual sunlight and outdoor condition before exposing them to full direct sunlight
Nice! Do you also grow giant and coastal sequoias ? I just planted some seedlings in my garden forest in Sweden. I did same woth pomegranade.
I grew the coast redwoods before but they didn't survive my winter outdoors in the ground. Hopefully they do well for you over winter
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener I am sorry to hear that. It gets cold here too so yes i am wortied. It is an experiment :-)
Coast redwoods will live indoors during the winter. Just make sure to keep the wet and plenty of light. Also, how these seedlings doing now?
@jimlayhe8584 the property I planted them on had a road built and bulldozed the patch. I managed to dig one up prior and relocate it to my urban renewal project. It’s about 3 ft tall and doing well. I also started another from seed and it’s doing well.
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener I am starting to upload videos if you’d like to see my seedling and tree progress.
Winter is coming where I live. Can they withstand 5 months indoor or should I wait near spring to germinate them?
I would wait until 10-12 weeks before your safe to put outside date. Then germinate indoors
I grew a few dawn redwood from seed about 10 years ago. the ones closest to the pond are 25' tall. Some of the others in places with less moisture are 3 to 5" tall. If you have a wet area to plant them in they will do much better.
I planted several near a creek, check out this update. ruclips.net/video/kYCkZPw_Fr8/видео.html
how old are these metasequoia babies ?? what a great set up !!
Seeds started on 1 January
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener man that gives me hope.. I lost my best little seedling the other day and then had a slew of other casualties. trying some new methods and sprouted like 15 new ones - hoping these guys grow up fast and strong like yours
Also once you start seeing germination. Take the plastic off, if you leave it too long they are struggling to adapt the new environment. I just mist them 3-4 times a day and they transition fine
What size were they when you took them out of the humidity?
2-3 inches tall. Because they were almost touching the lid. If you have a taller lid you can leave them a bit longer.
@@DaveTheHillsideGardener thanks Dave. I’m good with Sequoiadendron giganteum, but these Metasequoias are more difficult.
