- This British pie from Devon is one of the few remaining medieval recipes that is still in use today. Mentioned in the cookery book by Hannah Glasse in 1727 it is a wonderful tasty pie evocative of Christmas with its spices.

Where's your pint to wash it down..? Great video. Love old recipes like the one shown.
I had many later in the pub! ;) Thank you for the nice comment!
Great looking pie. If i could just add one tip, try mincing the lamb some more in your hands before cooking. It will give the meat a better texture.
Cheers. Yes, I will do that next time :)
@@Recipeengine you're welcome
It was going well until the Sultanas though i like the spiced Lamb part, without the sweetened slugs so i'm sure i could lose the Fruit, i might put a bottom and sides on it also.
I thought that as well, but honestly, the fruit literally melted into the meat during cooking. Was very tasty :)
That looked cracking that, I will make it for my family. Thanks for sharing. Is thee a Wigan lad?
Ha ha. Can you tell? I am and I'm off to Wigan now to see my mum. But ive not lived there for 40 years, although I do go back nearly every week. The pie was great by the way. Well worth having a try!
@@Recipeengine I will give it a go this week, thanks for such an interesting recipe. How odd for two Wigan lads to be discussing pies! never heard owt like it!
Looks lovely but a sweet meat pie is a strange thing to me. Thanks for the video
In contrast to the most of British recipes, this sounds quite delicious :)
It was! To be honest, I didn't know what it would taste like, but it turned out really nice! :)
Brilliant presentation! Thank you very much for sharing. This will be added to my recipes. I’m not certain if we can get suet for baking, any substitutes? Cheers!
Any shortening will be fine or use shortcrust pastry. ;)
