  • The Antioch Police Department has recently fired another officer, but this is not related to the department’s text messaging scandal. It’s connected to how the officer handled a traffic stop last year. Pete Suratos reports.

It’s because the legal system is corrupt. Prosecutors unofficially work for the police. Were they to start prosecuting them for their crimes, then the police would stop falsely arresting people to boost their conviction rates.

I know people love to say this but this is a bigger problem than just street level cops. The people hiring and refusing to hold officers accountable for their actions are the biggest problem. It’s ingrained into police culture and our judicial system for cops to treat people like this. And until the leadership makes changes to the way policing works, this type of stuff is going to continue to happen.

Yeah. You see so many auditing videos where 2-3-4-5-6-8 cops show up for " person with camera" and the cops say " We got a call so we had to respond" , but other times no officers show up for a genuine emergency. At least, not promptly.
I work as a paramedic and, despite mostly good interactions with the various law enforcement departments that I interact with, I don't think that I have ever gotten 3-4-5-6-8 cops for EMS calling for help from police. Sometimes no one shows after 15-20 minutes and we have to just deal with it. But , take a camera to many police departments or city halls and they are there in 5 minutes, 3-6 deep, because " We got a call".

It's a s-hole. Before Antioch we were in Daly City. Moving the kid to Antioch school system was like falling off a cliff. At the orientation, the principal pointed to the guards on the walkways on the second floors, and said "these are you first line of defense". No kidding, that really happened. That is how bad the schools are due to the poor (often nonexistent actually) parenting culture. The parents are either incarcerated, or corner boys rapping about ho's and selling dope.

I commend the Chief for firing that officer. In previous news reports, even that mayor has said they have help from the County and CHP in patrolling until they get their numbers back up. So really the main threat to citizens there is any bad officers left on that department.

How does the Police Department keep anything from the Mayor? Who do they work for?
The Mayor and the City council need to fix that problem. Kills me when police departments act like they're independent agencies from the rest of the city they work for.

The police labor union and the criminal justice industry have been telling the public “crime is up” as far back as 1970. After over a trillion dollar poured into increasing law enforcement personnel, equipment, and salary these special interest groups are still crying out the same message. The gig is up. Law enforcement industry should not be made to be the new cottage growth industry.

Unless they decertified the cop, firing him is pointless, since he’ll just go to another city or county and get another job and continue his abuse of citizens.

Now they should go afyer his certification. End the his terror. Those that eere texting should also have complaints filed against thier certification and clean the streets of thugs. Misconduct, hate crimes, all grounds for desertification. Turn them in to California POST for revoking their certification. Dont need to be cops. Mayor can request investigation by POST and get them decertified using the evidence they have.

Every use of force must be examined by a neutral 3rd party with the power to fine, terminate, and charge criminally. Police must be held accountable for every time they draw a weapon or more intense uses of force.
