    I saw a solution to the micro HDMI in another video. Small Rig makes an accessory for its cage to hold the HDMI plug in place and provide strain relief. But note the R6 cage does not fit the R6mkII which has a larger viewfinder bump.
    I’ve been waiting for a camera with the R6mkII features / price before making the switch from my 50D to mirrorless. Demand must be high because they are out of stock until the end of the month at B&H and other dealers.

    I'm starting to think the dynamic range of canon video cameras is just on the low side (aside from dgo sensors and the r5c). If you look at the C200 on cined it has the same dynamic range as the R6 and r5. Even though one has clog 2. You can transform into clog2 using cinematch for easier grading but I think adding it wouldn't increase dynamic range. On the other hand it's enough range for me. I also think there is less in-camera noise reduction than all the other brands which produces a nicer look.

  • @YogevMontekyo
    @YogevMontekyo Год назад +7

    if you expose correctly in clog3 you'll get similar or better results than standard profile. your sample video wasn't 2 stops overexposed (seems more like 1+ stops under exposed...) , you probably tried not to clip highlights (light bulbs) instead of adding more light over your subject. you can use the zebra or false color for exposing correctly (in that scene you'll probably clip those highlights)

    Why not use in HDRPQ? The noise is way better than log3 and you get 10 bit color and better dynamic range than standard or neutral profile. Then in davinci turn it into rec709 and you’re all set. Looks as good as log in my opinion for dynamic range and heaps better for noise.

    • @digitaldevigner4080
      @digitaldevigner4080 Год назад +4

      100% agree. HDR PQ captures more range similar to what clog1 could do without the noise. It’s the same standard profile look as shooting standard but you get more dynamic range and rec2020 colors which means a much broader range of colors than just rec709 can capture. It has to be converted properly in post but even in FCP using the HDR Tools I find it very easy to roll off those extra stops into the rec709 curve. It beats the pants off just shooting a standard profile. Plus I have two XDR displays and two HDR TVs so it’s nice seeing normal looking HDR video. HDR is the future.
      It’s not a flat look and I realize some will not like that but it’s the way to go if one wants clean and the extra range of the camera.

    I do videography, I can low-key invest in one of them cameras with my budget, I just don’t know which one to invest in honestly, I shoot a lot of sports video and portrait “hybrid shooter” I would love the extra reach on the r7, the r8 is $1000 less then r6 mark 2 with low key the same future, and the r6 mark 2 check off all the boxes I need in a camera + plus I can keep growing with that camera in the next few years inshalla but at the cost of $2500, I’m really going back and forth at this point what’s your opinion?

    Bought it. It's great but agreed on the Clog3. It is pretty noisy. And IBIS is great as long as you shoot wider than 24mm. Which isn't an excise. Canon needs to figure it out. Also, their RF lenses are very loud (compared to silent GM lenses) when focusing btw. Something to take note of if recording video in quiet environments. I did a video on it. Overall, very solid hybrid camera that could be a lot better if Canon would tweak the software.

    • @aldolega
      @aldolega Год назад

      Video hasn't been "just a bonus" since the 5DII. Canon markets the camera's video capabilities just as much as, if not more than the photo capabilities. So it's fair to judge it on video as much as photo.
      And this channel is video-oriented so of course they're going to concentrate on the video aspects.

    • @aldolega
      @aldolega Год назад

      @@mbismbismb at least half of Canon's marketing for this camera is about its video capabilities. If Canon is saying "Hey check out the excellent video on this hybrid photo/video camera, you should buy it if you want to shoot video", I think it's fair to judge the camera's video, especially in the context of competing cameras being better in some areas.
      99% of all video ever shot was not done by cinematographers, or even high-end videographers, who are shopping for cameras well north of this price point.
      Not sure what the 5Dii not having log fifteen years ago has to do with anything today. I couldn't post this message with my cell phone fifteen years ago, yet I expect the next phone I buy to be able to.

      Clog3 does have a large noise floor meaning more visible noise in the shadows. It’s because of how clog3 has a middle gray of 34.3 IRE and maps the stops to protect the highs. Other log formats are around 42 IRE meaning more values under to retain shadow detail. ISO 800 clog3 is like ISO 800 on the Blackmagic Design Pocket cameras. A lot of stops above middle gray to capture highlight detail but the shadows have less stops resulting in more noise. This mode is used on the Pockets to capture more highlight detail. Same is true on the R6. It captures a lot of highlight detail with clog3 but the shadows suffer a bit. Shooting two stops over is essentially remapping the stops like shooting ISO 200 on the Pocket cameras. You now gain two more stops in the shadows but sacrifice two stops above middle gray and clip the highs sooner.
      Clog3 is about flexibility. It’s not a one size fits all log format just like raw on the Pockets is not a one size fits all ISO solution for exposure. You decide what values are more important for each shot. Post noise reduction does wonders as well. It takes time to render but the way Canon treats clog3 is if you remove the noise you get a lot more out of the sensors while still getting great highlight detail and range. It’s kind of frustrating compared to other cameras that have a clean log format and better range but all these cameras have trade offs. I generally love the. Anon look and colors and willing to work with the noise vs having to fart around with color in post. I also shoot over when needed depending on the values in the scene I’m capturing. Knowing a few of these rules completely changes the outlook of using clog3.
      With that said I would love to see Canon create better dynamic range sensors. The sensor is not the problem. Photos do have 14bit processing and much larger range. The problem is video has to drop to 10bit processing while other cinema cameras may use 12bit processing for video. The sensors don’t read out fast enough for 14bits or 12bits. The same happens with electronic shutter for photos. The bit depth used in the processing of the sensor data drops from 14bit to 12bit and the shadows have a lot more noise. Canon preferred to lower rolling shutter and manage 4k60p but drop the video bit depth to 10bit which doesn’t help that noise floor either. The same is true on the R5 and R5c. 10bit video processing. The crop modes are able to bump back up to 12bit processing but unfortunately nobody has ever bothered to measure the dynamic range of the crop modes. Even if it’s cleaner however clog3 is mapped to benefit the highs vs the lows. It puts more of its stops above middle gray so it can capture a ton of highlight detail.

      I agree it’s about glass but I have also been around long enough to know 3rd party lenses don’t always work as well with the electronic controls. I don’t see the point investing in a body that has a certain stabilization and AF performance and then use a 3rd party lens that may not communicate as well to do those things. Tamron and Sigma are much better than they used to be but may still not perform as fast as Canon lenses. Plus there is the firmware updates. Being at the mercy of a 3rd party deciding if they will bother updating their firmware can be frustrating.
      Besides because of the EF lens support you do have a really wide range of 3rd party lens support. Myself and many others do use 3rd party lenses. I use Tamron 24-70 G2 f2.8 and 70-200 G2 f2.8 on my R6 and they work very well. Plus if you are on a budget going the EF will likely save you more right now thanks to the growing used market for good EF lenses. It is simply not true that there are no 3rd party options for the R6.
      The 3rd party lenses Canon has sued were illegally reverse engineering the lens mount and stealing code Canon wrote to make those electronic features work. Sigma and Tamron have always written their own code which is why the performance used to be sometimes spotty. The new lens markers out there were cutting corners and trying to not have to write their own code for support. Ironically they could just make EF versions of their lenses to sell to Canon uses. EF is still used on many cinema cameras and not a dead lens mount yet.

      Canon ef glass is amazing and better value than 3rd party. You will not get sigma and tamron to make better glass. Not even in the future. New lens releases only get worse over time. I have R6 MkIl and 5D Mk4 . I m not so sure that R6 is better. I have the feeling that 5D is a professional camera, while R6 is like for newcomers . Video on the other hand is much better with R6.

    You're the first one that complains about stabilization with Canon, not to mention the absolutely ridiculous noise issue that you bring. Most reviewers agree that if there is a camera out there that can beat the A7S3 in low light that would be this camera. You just don't know what you're doing or talking about . Pass

      Tyler Stalman, in his last few videos, complains about these issues as well as Jordan Drake from DPReviewTV, recently on his twitter complained as well. These issues are widely known and talked about within the camera review community.

    Someone’s cosy with Sony. It’s getting so ridiculous across the RUclipsrs now it’s beyond obvious. Marketing overdrive. Lol.

    This video made me tired. Couldn’t watch till the end. Too much distractions. Overkill.

    Cannot watch this video because of all the ”funny” clips that constantly ruins the actual content.

      @@connormccaskill but, I also want to say that actual content (as long as I watched) was good and production nice. So I subscribed to support your channel, and will give you another chance in the future - after all, there are never enough good camera channels.

    I’m looking at buying my first full frame camera. My only camera I’ve had the past 5 years is my iPhone 10. I’ve watched tons of RUclips videos/reviews and the more I watch the more confused I am. So I’m torn between Sony A7 siii or iv, Lumix S5ii, or Canon R something. Of course, I want to be able to take awesome videos, photos, and make vlogs. Given my total lack of experience, a lot of what I hear is hard to translate into what’s important and what I’ll be missing without even knowing I’m missing it. Can someone please simplify all of this for me?

    EOS R3 is not Canon’s flagship camera. EOS R1 is coming out… most likely with DIGIC XI processor.

    Thanks for this great review! I use now one R6 and I wanna buy a second one for video + photography, I do weddings.
    Should I upgrade? Today R6 cost in my country
    1730$ and r6 i 2600$ plus taxes.
    Is it worth the extra 870$ ???
    Till now on weedings I never had problems with heating because I don't record never more than
    15-20min in once.
    I use a back up camera 5d iv for video.
    Should I upgrade?
    Thanks🙏
