    Episode 49 Season 3
    Guest- Anmol Goel
    Voice of Change
    Venue- Kunzum Cafe, Gurgaon.
Our episode today has our youngest guest, Anmol Goel a 17 year old boy who has battled ADHD.
ADHD is a form of neurodiversity where focusing on tasks for long is a major challenge. It impedes not just academics but also daily life as administrative tasks like keeping track of assignments, deadlines are hard. The fact that it gets undiagnosed most times makes it harder on the person.
Anmol realised he had issues as a fourth grader when he would be asked to go for extra classes in school. Resentful at both parents and teachers for subjecting him to this, he took his frustrations out on his younger sister. He felt isolated as well, since his classmates shunned him, and even bullied him at times. It affected not just him but his family as well.
An assessment in Grade VIII confirmed he had ADHD. He is then had an entire ecosystem that supported him, including his parents, sister, special educators and doctor. With their help, he navigated his neuro-diversity. He feels that he is now cured of it, as he doesn’t need accommodations and extra time to finish his papers. After a traumatic time in the middle school years, he completed his schooling this year, passing out with really good grades.
This talk was very enlightening as it helped us understand what goes through a child’s mind when teachers don’t have empathy towards their students. It also brings home the point that when teachers are empaths, they can transform lives. Anmol was lucky to have teachers like Jasmeet Sir, Mukesh Sir, Kevin Sir and Pratima ma’am, who helped bolster different aspects of his academic journey.
ADHD with its broad spectrum of challenges unique to each person, will be covered in more detail when a few more reels on the issue drop later.
Our effort is to bring awareness to this form of neuro-diversity, and help parents and educators understand that it is okay to have ADHD, and be supportive with empathy.
We have also provided a link to an article written by Deepa Kulkarni from a parent’s perspective. The link for it is:

Thanks for sharing your journey openly. I am sorry that you had to spend middle school years in painful isolation without friends and performance pressure from friends and negligible support from teachers.
It is very important for the teachers and counsellors to be trained to identify potential ADHD so that timely interventions can be organized.
Wish you all the best for future.God bless!

Wow! This is incredible 🙌🏻 so much to learn from you, Anmol - Acceptability, Adaptability, and Audaciousness ❤
Reminds me that we often take reality greater than our dreams. But this is only true until one TRIES to make those dreams come true. And you exactly did that and proved it - dreams do come true. 🎉🙌🏻
