My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about disability, neurodiversity and what its like living with Tourette's Syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and a chronic illness called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition causing involuntary movements called tics.
I use my social media (TikTok, RUclips and Instagram) to advocate and raise awareness for my conditions and show what it is like living with a disability as a neurodivergent person.
I am also autistic and share my sensory struggles along with my experiences with mental health disorders.
I show what its like having a disability and the accomodations I have to help my daily life. I am also an ambulatory wheelchair user showing my life using mobility aids and how symptoms change from day to day!
I am also a musician with a popular song called "She's Mine" available on all streaming services - I wrote, produced, mixed and mastered all my songs myself! I am also an artist and a writer. I love reading and I'm currently writing a novel and a book about my life!

Questionnaires are frustrating because they don’t allow you to give details, explanations of your choices, or options to choose more than one option! Mine invariably end up being covered in notes between the questions! 😂
I struggled with this even in grade school when we were supposed to guess what was happening in a picture and of course the only “correct” answer was related to some current spelling word or something but to me, the picture was very ambiguous.

    • @jollyquinn430
      @jollyquinn430 7 месяцев назад +106

@kimberleyhosmer5997 I hate it so much.
Just yesterday I had to do one at my doctor's. I have to do it 4 times a year and I hate it.
It's for chronicle pain. The question "Do you often have a dry mouth" makes me always mad. Because I often have a dry mouth because of my meds. Not because of my pain itself.
And then I have to say if certain adjectives describe my pain. Adjectives like 'terrible, excruciating, torturing, creepy, etc'
It's actually not in English. I'm just using some English words as examples. But the actual adjectives are some, I've never heard anyone describe their pain.

Yeah, I always want to explain the situations in which my answer applies, or ask how often is often etc.
I don't know if you've ever seen the "literacy" test (it's called that, it doesn't test for literacy at all) that was used to exclude black people from voting? Every question had several possible answers and any of them could be considered right or wrong based on the whims of the corrector. Some questionnaires make me feel like filling out one of those tests.

      OMG yes. Overthinking them.
Also, yes 'what do they mean' or, 'none apply to me, I want ANOTHER option!'.
Doesn't help that I deal with questionnaires a lot in my job and often say 'well this is porely designed' or 'I wouldn't have asked it like that'!
I get a lot of eye-rolling from colleagues lol.
Often get to look at draft surveys etc. Big mistake if they ever want them finalised, or not twice as long as when they started😂

Don't try to take autism diagnostic tests then bc if you're like that you'll find them just as rage inducing as I did..
To be fair that should probably be one of the questions "do you think you were given an adequate amount of choice options per question?"
The obvious answer is no but at least I'd feel a little better knowing the frustration was PART of the quiz 😂

Objectively? I feel one way about certain things, but that doesn’t mean I can’t see the other side, so how do I answer? Or if I instantly see circumstances where a statement could be true/false, when they’re clearly looking for the opposite answer. I need a box underneath to qualify my answer, please.

most neurotypical people actually do experience all these things! and what's more, not all neurodivergent people will experience all of these things either, since neurodivergence is a huuuge spectrum. i'm AuDHD (ADHD and Autistic) and i only put down 4 or 5 fingers. as some people have mentioned in the comments, some of these things can also be behaviors resulting from trauma, not necessarily even linked to neurodivergence at all. but something to consider if you're wondering if you may be neurodivergent, is the frequency of your symptoms/behaviors. stimming, for example, is done by _both_ neurotypicals and neurodivergents. but where neurotypicals stim only occasionally (maybe a couple times a week or even less often), neurodivergents--especially those with ADHD and/or Autism--will stim pretty much every day, often multiple times a day. just like how if you sneeze once or twice, you and everyone around you probably won't think much of it if they notice at all. but if you're sneezing every few hours, and everyone around you seems to be noticing the difference (maybe even pointing it out to you), it's pretty likely you're coming down with something. neurodivergence is much like that.
of course, as the OP stated, games like these, as well as online questionnaires, shouldn't be taken too seriously. they're mostly for fun. but they can definitely be a springboard that leads to real research, self realizations, and consultations with qualified professionals. and there's nothing at all wrong with that :)

The written vs vocal communication... it depends!! In general, i prefer writing because i can take my time choosing my words and i can erase the whole thing if i change my mind. If my brain needs to improvise more than one thing at a time or remember stuff on the spot, i melt. But if i need to communicate a complicated issue, i find it easier to plaj my conversation and speak rather than write, because writing long paragraphs is boring to read for anyone and often ends up being a waste

@@ameeliamartin yes, as an adult, I was able to hear and implement the idea that I shouldn't apologize for my mere existence, and that's been great. But, there is a usage of "I'm sorry" that the rule above doesnt allow, but which I feel is more than legitimate, which is to express compassion for someone's suffering by saying a version of, "I'm very sorry that happened to you." I used to just say "I'm sorry", which sounds weird and can strike observers weird. But my version expresses the whole feeling and I have found is quite appreciated. This might also be useful to your daughter in the quest to tease apart the "I'm sorry" pool of emotion. I'm both autistic and ADHD, only diagnosed late in life. Everything would have been so much easier in my life if I had been recognized. I'm glad your daughter will have that advantage.

      EDIT: Basically, what Victoria said:
I've learned to say, "I'm sorry" with qualifications: I'm sorry you're not having a good day. I'm sorry that wasn't the answer you wanted. I'm sorry I don't have what you're looking for (have you tried XYZ?) I'm sorry I can't make promises for other people. I'm sorry the weather isn't to your liking.
None of these things are under my purview; I can't do anything but commiserate. But I'm happy to do that.

      @MonAhgasInsomniAroELF 6 месяцев назад +5

i got news for ya buddy... no actually, not everyone plans out their conversations. in fact, the majority of neurotypical people do not, that's why it's considered a sign of neurodivergence, because it _is._ i'm not talking about planning out what you might say for a specific important convo, like a job interview, or going to apologize to someone, etc. or even planning what to say to a crush you're nervous about talking to. obviously most people regardless of neurotype will do that at least a few times in their life. but it means like, rehearsing or planning out even everyday _casual_ conversations with friends/acquaintances, for what to say to the cashier at the geocery checkout, or how to order your food at a restaurant. if you do those things, it's highly likely you're some form of neurodivergent.

Therefore you admit that "everybody plans their conversations" and you are only clarifiying that neruotypical people don't plan EVERY conversation but neurodivergent people do. I did not know that. Well sometimes people think only asd or ADHD are neurodivergent too. Ps- adult diagnosis is prohibitively expensive. There's cheap test at the doctors do but they're no better than the internet self-test really. True testing takes more than 10 hours of a train psychologist time, and cost thousands of dollars. I know this when I had to try to renew my paperwork for college accommodations. It wasn't worth it so I never did. :/ (global language processing disorder, never tested for ASD or ADHD because I was a girl). Now that I'm in a career that studies the DSM-5... I will tell you it's an umbrella for most of those conditions. So if you have four out of five of the categories of autism you're not autistic but you're pretty close... So you will see people that are somewhere in between autistic and not autistic. And stop being hurt by the fact that almost every single mental health condition is just an extreme variant of stuff that happens to neurotypical people. For example one of the things that happens to me is I have trouble retrieving words, even very common words. What if I were to say to somebody says oh yeah me too, to stop trying to copy my condition. Hello, everybody has trouble retrieving words at some point mine's just at the level of being extreme. This tends to hold true with almost every type of mental health condition including those that fall under neurodivergent. Therefore a lot of people that are not neurodivergent will experience a lesser form, it helps them have empathy for those that have it in extreme form. It's not a bad thing, it helps bridge the gap of understanding others when approached appropriately.

And I’m like 😅 so it’s not my fault she constantly hurts my feelings and makes me afraid to upset her.
For context she was my roommate. Don’t worry I eventually got outta there. But it literally traumatized my naive ass. I didn’t realize I was so easily bossed around and vulnerable to being basically controlled and bullied. And I actually tried to change and fix myself cause of it. By that I mean stop being me and shutting up and doing everything I’m told plus changing HOW I ATE AND LIVED LIFE. She told me what foods I shouldn’t eat too much, and what I should and shouldn’t leave in my desk. She made me organize my desk differently cause she didn’t like how cluttered it looked. I have ducking adhd man this was absolute hell for me and as most who are also adhd relate to have RSD. So I was constantly getting my feelings hurt for no goddamn reason.

I have 2-3 fingers left… out of 10. I’m neurodivergent… not sure if it’s a thing, but I’d say I’m EXTREMELY neurodivergent… verging on broken/incapable of being an adult. Sadly, my daughter (also neurodivergent) understands me and my personal struggles less and less as she gets older. It hurts, because I thought if anyone in this world understood and accepted me as I am, it would have been her. I often feel like a nuisance, even though I ALWAYS mean well.😔

I don't mean to be rude, but genuine question, if you are incapable of adulthood why did you decide to go through the intense pain and stress of labour and motherhood? I hope you were not coerced into it against your active enthusiastic consent

@@trishasurangana2278I don't have a kid, but maybe a useful insight. I struggled in my 20s, but NOTHING like the level of struggling I'm doing now at 46! I'm not sure why things have gotten harder - it honestly doesn't make any sense - nothing that big has changed. But it's WAY harder now. It may be the same way for the woman who wrote the previous comment. In my 20s, I thought I had things fairly together, and would be fine. But I was REALLY REALLY wrong. So it's possible it worked the same way for her.

@@kateshiningdeer3334 It's actually quite a typical thing to happen. Especially neurodivergent women tend to hit a "glass wall" starting 30-ish+. The expectations and challenges change and we usually have many adaptations that then start to backfire on the long run. E.g. because we don't develop certain skill sets and the thing is, that progressive adulthood tends to come with more and more subtle pressure and challenges and responsibilities, while the myriads of small traumas tend to increase and weight down on us more and more.

@@KxNOxUTAI feel that as I get older the energy and confidence to just do it anyway had gone. I remember a person I was but can't get back to that person. My life has given me many knocks. I used to think I was lucky and so things would turn out ok. I was able to bolster myself. I might have been kidding myself. Anyway now life seems much harder.

Hi about the apologizing all the time for everything! I’m neurodivergent and I’ve had this problem big time. I just wanted to say here that you do deserve to live, and be happy and safe!! And if you have the time and resources, please try therapy. It helped me a lot to get over this with time, and it is definitely worth it. Have a nice day because you deserve it!!!!

Many of these unfortunately are based more so in anxiety and depressive disorders and past childhood experiences, which makes those diagnoses more difficult

Just going to point out, the fact you struggled so hard with some of the more ambiguous or less-clear questions towards the end... is, itself, an answer to the questionnaire question.

My husband doesn’t understand the music thing. He’s a musician 😂 I only listen to songs that I’ve heard before, primary ones from my teen years or older. The thought of having to sit through a whole album of new music gives me anxious feelings.

I'm conflicted with written and spoken directions because I suck at reading baking directions or cooking ones but I will need it written down if there's something that needs to be done because verbal sounds like there's too much.

7/10. I’m pretty much only introverted and I don’t like written communication better because it’s harder to understand tone and implications. I also don’t overcommit to people because I know I’d let them down and I don’t want to lol.

It felt really good to be able to keep some fingers up for things I used to deal with, but don’t anymore after figuring out my diagnoses and working through therapy, etc., to unmask, set boundaries, and practice self compassion.
I’m not all the way there yet, but i see a path forward that’s not so exhausting and that feels more genuine and I’m so excited to be on it.

My reason for struggling with questionnaires is because Google Forms will "lose connection" with my bad internet and make me go back to page 1 on every page of the form. The nuerodiverse part is me saying to myself, "I need to get a developer job at Google just to fix Google forms." 😅
I will have to do that after I get a job at Facebook and fix the fact that you can't ask to not be shown a specific "memory" again. The only option is to see less memories in general. 😤

I have 4 fingers remaining. I don’t have any diagnoses, but I definitely am on some sort of spectrum for something. It’s always oddly reassuring when I hear other people who do have legit diagnoses say they have some traits and behaviors that I have. I wish I could’ve had some of this insight in school. I felt like there was something wrong with me and really struggled with some things.
