op had it right slow exp group sucks you can basically multiply tauros base stats by 4/5 to get its real playthrough stats compared to medium-fast exp group
Yeah. EXP group is key. Tauros needed the grinding time. It looks like the second playthough Scott chose to cut grinding for Tauros in an attempt to save time. Still slower.
@@naraiceylob He did say that he skipped some grinding to save time but in the end the Sunday dinner still had it's tail handed to him by Mama pokemon.
Just when I think there isn't room to improve I find like 12 ways to make things better haha. I think this sort of improvement will continue for a while...
One thing I will say to Tauros' credit is that even outside of the E4 he seemed generally more reliable due to not using as many inaccurate moves and being able to more reliably hit KO ranges than Kangha. Kagha was still able to pull a lead in the Brock split and keep it for the whole run, but I think if Kangha was just a bit less bulky it probably wouldn't have been able to keep that lead.
Man, one thing that I really appreciate here, it helps show that the defensive stats like HP and Defense are actually pretty valuable in these comparisons which usually in single pokemon challenges they're not as the 'challenge' nature often biases a lot of single pokemon runs to the one-shot or be one-shot meta where speed, power, and coverage rule supreme. Getting to see a challenge format that allows bulky pokemon to benefit from their defensive stats in the nature of time optimizations, which I feel you've boiled down to a very good system, is really nice and refreshing. Also for what it's worth, I don't think that the rock slide vs body slam difference on Koga is a huge problem. As shown later, the effective power of STAB body slam vs supereffective rockslide is pretty similar (127.5 power vs 150 power) resulting in rock slide being about 15% stronger but with bodyslam being much more consistent (and the paralyze chance) I don't think it makes a big difference here to go with one vs the other. Your races are a ton of fun to watch, can't wait to see the next one!
If a pokemon can't take everything in 1 hit it better be able to handle some pain. Great showing from Kanghaskan today, reminding us that just because your rivals are faster doesn't mean you can't win the race!
Everyone else who makes challenge videos: well I played through it once guess that’s that. Scott: so I ran the simulation 667 more times with slight adjustments for rock slides accuracy
Before I clicked on this I thought to myself "clearly Tauros". 0:36 I realized this is going to be a lot closer than I originally thought. Kangaskhan has a much larger TM move pool for the early game. Then I noticed it gets Rage at the start. Another thing you later pointed out in the video is that Tauros levels up slower. This Challenge was clearly tilted against Tauros in the early game. HOWEVER! This challenge was also tilted against Kangaskhan in the later part of the game because of it's special and slightly worse stats other than HP.
At 27:25, that is so cute of you, Scotty! Pay attention to what he said: "On the fourth turn against it [that large poisonous psychic big-eyed moth], the rocks connect and the MOTH GETS SQUISHED". That's really cute. I really like how naturally Scotty call pokémon, like they were our familiar animals. Keep on doing that, please. Great content and quality. PS: this's just reminded me of him facing Blane's pokémon. He usually refers to those puppies and pony as something like this "Fairytale Dog" and "Fire Dog", as well as "Fire Horse". That's quite pretty!

When I was younger, I never used either of these in Yellow as I was too impatient for the safari zone rares. Only once I played Gold did I finally use Tauros and realized how good it was. I then went back to gen 1 and tried out both Tauros and Kangaskhan and now I love them both. I've grown to really appreciate the normal types when I thought they were weak as a kid.
Kabutops has so much coverage compared to scyther, and access to swords dance and dig. The only leader it has any issues with, is Erica. Scyther on the other hand struggles against half of the game and has a much lesser move pool.
@@kylesmith9573 Yeah I was going to say, I don't think that one will be close. Does Kabutops start with absorb? I feel like that will be game over at Brock.

I think there's a bit of a weakness in the reasoning behind the Consistent League segment. Yes, Tauros finished the league at a lower level, but it's also in a slower experience group. How much difference in playtime is necessary to achieve this Consistent League? Were they both similar because of the experience gain discrepancy? Or was Tauros still faster despite that? Of course both have the same base total and as such Tauros should have lower total stats at the lower level, but I feel the experience gain differences should still be considered somehow. Maybe compare the total experience points from the status screen?

Whoa, don't think anyone expected this! Seems like Khangaskhan had a lot of advantages we overlooked. Being in the faster leveling group, having a massive base 105 hp, and having a honestly almost as good if not better than Tauros' really helped. I thought Tauros' extra speed and power would give it an edge, but practically I guess it never got to show it since it leveled up less. How did these two compare to the other mon you've used? I imagine both of them were pretty solid in the overall standings?
Very solid in comparison to others. Right now it's still hard to tell how they all stack up though because I'm still learning. I think the gains are starting to plateau off though which will allow for some better comparisons between different species in the near future!
Honestly I think Kanghaskhan takes the crown because she has a better overall move set, able to learn better starting moves and water moves for early game coverage against rock types while Tauros wasn't able to get coverage until Celadon at the earliest. Funny how even though rock types are often considered jokes with their easily exploitable weaknesses, in these solo runs they can be a wall to progress until you can get coverage or over-level depending on what Pokemon you use.
WOW!!! This guy is great at the game. He really has a good thought process around the game and he puts together really intelligently done videos. The data and the methodology and stuff is rigorous and we trust his results.
Honestly, this was an exciting video. I love strong, single stage Normal type Pokémon. Really looking forward to Snorlax. Maybe a little less so Lickitung, but should be interesting at least!
before the video starts, i actually voted on kanghaskan. i never played gen 1 but i remember it being a monster in stadium, and any time i've used it, its been a brick wall with that hp stat. So glad to see how kanghaskan did! i love both pokemon and enjoy both but for me Kanghaskan has just always done better
Gotta love a good underdog tale! I love Kangaskhan coming in clutch due to overlooked factors such as HP, leveling speed, and access to a few extra moves such as Bubblebeam and (suprisingly) Gen 1 Rage. And don't worry about the Grimer video. Flubs happen to every prolific YTer. I have to admit I took super effective damage from the excessive amount of voiceover mistakes that were kept in that video, but it was not nearly enough to KO my subscription. I was not even at red health. I was just there to enjoy a good challenge run and I got it.
I always had to go out of my way to catch these two at the safari zone every time I played. I'm really glad you pitted these two normal powerhouses against each other. I'm surprised at the result. Really thought the big bull had this in the bag.
When Body Slam is enough to OHKO Venonat is actually is both more reliable (higher accuracy) and faster than Rock Slide, since the super effective message doesn't appear.
Something I think you missed out on that led to a few resets with Kanga is that Cloyster’s Aurora Beam has a chance to lower attack and it did that a few times and that might have led to Earthquake not OHKOing Jolteon a couple times. That being said it’s not like knowing that would lead to faster times bc it’s a luck thing, it’s just a neat thing to know. Great video as always, keep up the amazing content. Can’t wait for the starter battle next time it’s going to be awesome.
Im glad you have a fleshed out scoring system, that makes it feel alot better! I maintain an averaged time score would help you smooth it out a bit, that way you dont have to worry about your times being slanted towards good or bad luck
Kanghaskan in the Cubone line makes a lot of sense! Plus, we know early pokemon researchers were very inaccurate with their classifications, maybe they got this one wrong! (A baby Pikachu and Snorlax are different pokemon, which the gen1 pokemon scientists didn't know, but a baby Kanghaskan is still just a baby Kanghaskan?) I think you are really onto something here.

After all only a tiny fraction of players are competitive players thus they should be ignored where the vast majority matters as competitive players opinions are worthless when it comes to us non-competitive players.
Scott has proven that time and again with these solo-runs.
Sunday dinner had its mountain oysters handed to him by the mama pokemon every time.
@@valor1omega the problem with kanghaskhan is no one clearly knew how to use 1 to maximum effectiveness
Tauros has fallen off in competitive and is never used because several steel types and water types just flat out do tauros job much better than tauros
Kanghaskhan in competitive people starting finally using it very recently
It actually is banned in some tournaments because it does everything well in competitive enough bulk n power n with tailwind kanghaskhan is faster than pretty much everything
It really became noticeable for me on my Shield playthrough. I was forced to rely almost exclusively on my Cloyster just so it wouldn't fall behind. The experience sharing alone wasn't enough. I didn't use XP candies because I both wanted to do things the old-fashioned way and I didn't realize how broken they are until late in my playthrough.
op had it right slow exp group sucks you can basically multiply tauros base stats by 4/5 to get its real playthrough stats compared to medium-fast exp group
The EXP Group came in *clutch* for Mama
Yeah. EXP group is key. Tauros needed the grinding time.
It looks like the second playthough Scott chose to cut grinding for Tauros in an attempt to save time. Still slower.
@@naraiceylob
He did say that he skipped some grinding to save time but in the end the Sunday dinner still had it's tail handed to him by Mama pokemon.
I respect the OU Bull, but I’m real glad to see an awesome single mother outshine him.
*Lance the matador be like: "Tauros, Tauros, olé!" See, all he has to do now is dye his cape red so he can tease the bull with it*
Listening to your confidence and delivery improve week on week is amazing mate.
Just when I think there isn't room to improve I find like 12 ways to make things better haha. I think this sort of improvement will continue for a while...
I agree
When you do a Gen V race, I'd love to see Tauros take on Bouffalant in a solo run.
One day!!
Quality production and presentation on this one ! Great work. You’re a naturally funny dude so no need to force it
As one of the 18% who voted Kanghaskan due to the bulk, this feels good
At the start I voted kanga because we stan good mommas in this house
Everyone else who makes challenge videos: well I played through it once guess that’s that.
Scott: so I ran the simulation 667 more times with slight adjustments for rock slides accuracy
This video was significantly better than the previous 2-3. Just a way smoother balance with commentary and content.
Keep it up man
Agreed.
Noooooo! I missed the debut! Oh well, always next time. Another great job Scott. Keep up the good work. Appreciate the time and effort you put in!
I love the silly puns, man. They get me every time!
9:27 "It ends up being stroganoff"
😂😂😂
Kanga Gang! I was worried about Tauros’s lack of bulk but I didn’t realize the xp group difference
I absolutely love your videos. Not only are you a very charming and talented creator, but the information and passion you present is so intriguing! Stuff like this, learning about these various Pokémon and all that, it's so good. Currently binging your videos after picking up Pokémon crystal on the eshop. Keep up the great work ❤️
When I was younger, I never used either of these in Yellow as I was too impatient for the safari zone rares. Only once I played Gold did I finally use Tauros and realized how good it was. I then went back to gen 1 and tried out both Tauros and Kangaskhan and now I love them both.
I've grown to really appreciate the normal types when I thought they were weak as a kid.
Yeah, I've grown to appreciate normal types too. They actually have a lot going for them. Especially in gen 1 + 2
As a Taurus, I think I only have one choice on who to root for:
A kangaroo dinosaur thing, obviously.
Gotta go a "scythes for hands" race with scyther vs kabutops. Who's the sharpest?
Kabutops has so much coverage compared to scyther, and access to swords dance and dig. The only leader it has any issues with, is Erica. Scyther on the other hand struggles against half of the game and has a much lesser move pool.
@@kylesmith9573 Yeah I was going to say, I don't think that one will be close. Does Kabutops start with absorb? I feel like that will be game over at Brock.
@@kode-man23 at level 1 it has absorb and watergun I believe.
Yeah, no competition in gen 1. But maybe gen 2...
But probably not. Haha
@@stormcat2330 same issues as gen 1. Typing and move choices. Kabutops just has so much more to bring to the table. It's the same in every gen. Bug types were made to be terrible.
A battle in which Gen 1 Rage is actually useful... 😁
The legends were true...!
“When the pp is insufficient the only thing left to do is rage” is a sentence I probably took the wrong way but still find hilarious
This is the sentence I am most proud of on my channel.
Hrm, seems faster experience curves and better bulk can help momentum a lot in challenges like these, never considered that before. Great job to mama.
Really great job on this one sir! Versus battles are so exciting, looking very forward to the starters video :)
What about gen 1 starters Vs gen 2 starters???
Charmander Vs Cyndaquil
Squirrel Vs Totodile
Bulbasaur Vs Chikorita
In gen 2, yes!
To be fair isn't everything better than the G2 grass starter?
Squirrel
@@valor1omega the fact it's pure grass is nice. No ground physic death Also, chicorita is pretty cute.
whenever you say something that makes you laugh it makes me laugh too. your personality shines through when that happens!
You're the one expected to receive thanks, Scott, you're incredible! Excellent work!
Huh cubone being an orphaned baby kangaskhan would make a lot of sense
Bro! I seriously had started recording this very idea like six months ago, but you’ve done it far better than I ever could. Not sure how I missed seeing you on here. Phenomenal work my dude.
Thanks so much! I enjoyed your Stantler and Sudowoodo videos btw!
This channel just keeps getting better and better; the puns and the brutal Agatha burn had me creasing 🤣. (V appropriate too; the ghost trainer was literally invisible).
Scott you are SMASHING this RUclips thing man 💪😁🔥
Thanks TW Wolf
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon 💪😁 it really shows man, I absolutely love your content, your sense of humour (the Cringe Humour type is double super effect against the subscriber type), and how detailed each challenge goes. Its become a "drop everything cos Scott's posted another video" sitch over here 😎.
(Also we're all still mega impressed you've hit max Chad status and achieved the girl friend evolution)
P.s. im a professional voice artist lol so hearing your outtakes at the end is one of my fav bits cos I literally do the same things all the time! The ridiculous misreads where you are viciously betrayed by your own tongue thing (how could you, tongue??), and the talking to yourself until your actually laughing at your own jokes but then realise you're sitting alone in a sound proof box possibly having a breakdown thing 🤣
Kanga deserves some love, also in terms of competitive battling Mega Kangaskhan had some time in the spotlight too.
I've been loving your vids. Keep up the great content.
Btw, I think the style you used for this narration is amazing.
Actually it's not a theory or conspiracy. Kangaskhan was in fact part of the cubone line in the beta. They then later on made the two line different. So originally it is Cubones rightful mother
5:32 - Love the Cubone/Kangaskhan theory, even backed by Kanga showing up for Cubone in SOS calls in Alola!
2:11 “When the PP is insufficient, the only thing left to do is rage” lmfao
Really love all the puns and the steadily increasing subscriber count! Keep it up, you're great!
By the way, still waiting for Slowbro vs Slowking. Request #10.
Man, how surprising. With how hard Tauros demolished everything when I used it in my playthroughs as part of a team, I kind of assumed it would win out.
Wow what a coincidence! I’m in the middle of a safari zone Pokémon challenge run and I just did these two back to back!
XD usually forgets Bruno. Includes Bruno and then “Lance is next.”
I never really comment ever (even on videos I like) but these VS series are what I've always wondered about since playing Red Version when I was a kid. I don't really see many other tubers (even other pokemon tubers) doing this kind of thing and I never thought I would with how time intensive these things can be. But my man LETS GOOO, I love these series and will support with comments for the youtube algorithm Gods. KEEP IT UP!!!
Thanks so much from commenting! I'm certainly going to keep it up. I think it's really fun to compare Pokemon like this.
the elite 3 line killed me... I never laughed so hard in a while
“Taurus doesn’t need to smile, because it learns Body Slam” 🤣
"Tauros doesn't need to smile, because he can learn Body Slam."
I love the implication that Body Slam will ALSO improve your chances of getting a girlfriend
;)
9:15 The pun game here deserves a ton of applause, and that's no bull.
Way to roast Erika.
She probably had a cow after that loss.
Okay, I'll moooove on now.
Seeing as Venomoth's the mascot of this channel, when will you do a Venomoth challenge?
How about a Venomoth vs. Butterfree?
I'd love to see randomised runs with Venemoths typing being changed
@@valor1omega that one would be fun too.
Great video. Thanks for changing the format. It's amazing
WOW!!! This guy is great at the game. He really has a good thought process around the game and he puts together really intelligently done videos. The data and the methodology and stuff is rigorous and we trust his results.
honestly, i wasn’t really expecting that, i was expecting Tauros to absolutely sweep, anyways, thanks for another great video
That jab at Agatha with Tauros was pretty funny. Haha
Ah yes, Mama vs Beef, the battle that rages inside the heart of every human
6:00 such a great call not to factor in switch challenges time as it isnt strictly affected by the pokemons abilities...
The starter video should be a super interesting one!
The "now its ground beef" joke forced me to like & sub lmao
Bro I love your bull/beef puns. The steaks have never been higher and bodyslam was stroganoff lmao
Tauros beef jokes? That's rare!
"Scooter's Thooters!" My kids shout out on their lunch break. My oldest thinks Mama can beat Beef.
Also, my daughter Rebekah loved your Frozen Pokémon theory!
Awww that's so cute! I'm glad she liked the theory.
Glad you had the bulk to withstand the damage from the toxic sludge in the Grimer video. Glad it didn't poison you!
Kangaskhan is my favorite normal type, so this makes me happy. Also, the stats issue with Kangaskhan is hilarious and makes this even better.
I always had to go out of my way to catch these two at the safari zone every time I played. I'm really glad you pitted these two normal powerhouses against each other. I'm surprised at the result. Really thought the big bull had this in the bag.
I'm surprised too! I wish I had got the opportunity to catch one of them and use it as a kid. They always escaped me!
Gosh, those beef puns. They're gonna make my head meat my desk.
Scott: "Nothing in Gen 1 makes sense"
Me: Of course not bro... Gen 1 is held together with toothpicks, chewed-up bubblegum, and a dream.
And it’s actually fixed from Red/Green versions, which is even more buggy somehow.
The victory music starting when rhydon is frozen instead of when it's knocked out made me choke on my dinner.
Kangaskahn could totally have been cubones 3rd evolution. Maybe a stone evo. Like with a ground-stone. A stone-stone? Rock-stone. There we go.
I am so pumped for this challenge! Go Kangaskhan! Do you your best Tauros! Keep up the great work Scott this is so awesome!
Thanks Joseph
Before the first league fight, I was wondering why Beef's attack and defense were so much better than Mama's. Good thing you fixed it
Lord Helix will have a moment of silence for the missed ghosts in the E4.
Im glad you have a fleshed out scoring system, that makes it feel alot better! I maintain an averaged time score would help you smooth it out a bit, that way you dont have to worry about your times being slanted towards good or bad luck
5:30
This theory changed my life as a kid NGL NGL. I wouldn't be where I am now without these little monsters and neat world.
rly happy I discovered your videos! I love these comparison runs ^_^
Glad you're enjoying
Kanghaskan in the Cubone line makes a lot of sense! Plus, we know early pokemon researchers were very inaccurate with their classifications, maybe they got this one wrong! (A baby Pikachu and Snorlax are different pokemon, which the gen1 pokemon scientists didn't know, but a baby Kanghaskan is still just a baby Kanghaskan?) I think you are really onto something here.
Kanga got some key crits in the first run, so I'm very interested for the 2nd run.
Yes! I have been waiting for this video for a long time now! Well done Scott!
Hope you enjoyed it Frank!
Glad to see that I'm not the only one that thought that Kangaskhan was a ground type as a kid.
Can't wait for the sequel, Tauros versus Miltank, the battle of the burgers!
Tauros should be named steak and miltank should be called burger. This is so the audience can differentiate between the tauroses used in each versus.
