I suffer from hydrophobia but want to learn swimming as a skill n recreation. I have been going to my local swimming pool, had a bad instructor, therefore, i still fear water and can't go beyond 4ft without a kickboard. I knw this is a mental block. I have been trying my hand for the last 5 summers. i haven't and don't want to give up without overcoming my challenges. I have a problem with side breathing during the freestyle. I watch your videos bit still am scared. Pls help me overcome my blocks.
Your videos legit helped me. Last night I was watching 11 videos of you teaching me how too breath not too be afraid of water and all that crap. Now I’m good at swimming. I used to suck at it since I couldn’t take my head above the water but you showed me that’s not important and not good and I should do the chin shit or something and it did work for me. I wanna say thank you for helping me you. THANK YOU
That swimming teacher story is the same as Myne my teacher took my airandbands of on my second week and pushed me in so I was sick and was petrified of water for 7 years now I love swimming I'm self tought
I found that i can just take a breath and just kind of go limp in the water and start breathing out, then kind of "flap" my arms to get my head back to the surface and take another breath. It requires almost no energy so once you get used to doing that for a while then you know you wont drown even if you're "stranded" in the middle of the deep water. It's also easy to flatten out into a front or back swim from that position, or even dive down if you want to touch the bottom.
So I'm 19 yrs old and I just started taking swimming lessons , everyone else Is improving except me. I'm really scared of the water like I get anxieties and my heart start racing, I'm afraid to relax and let go. I know how to blow bubbles, its also hard for me to kick my legs up in the water.
This is exactly me. Last summer my family rented a house down the shore that had a pool so I thought okay, this is the perfect opportunity for me to get over my fear. I tried every single day to learn, and finally I was able to go under the water, and actually enjoyed it. But I still have the same issue I think you’re saying you have: I can’t float. I’m too scared to just let go and let the water take control, because to me that means drowning. And obviously I don’t want to drown. So now I’m 13 and my mom is telling me that she wants me to take lessons (I took a countless amount of lessons when I was little but they never worked as I was wayyy too scared) I really don’t want to though as I know it will end the same way it did when I was little. My mom also thinks that my fear is literally no big deal and that it’s easy to overcome. Btw I’m 13 and your story actually made me feel a little bit better because now I know there are people out there who have similar swimming issues to me. I hope your lessons go well.
@@zombietimes8943 Yes but i can't tread lol. According to my swim instructor its because of my bodybuilder type physique and I don't plan on cutting down ever so guess I'll just sink to the bottom every time I try to tread in the deep water XD
Thing is, if you hold your breath that's all you need. When you're in the water forget about breathing out until you reach the surface. Plus, even if you do breathe out, you can easily swim up to the surface.
You need to be as much as relaxed you can otherwise you will lose energy waving with your hands and kicking legs. The best thing before getting in to a deep water is to warm up your lungs.
Lovely video i so badly want to go and learn...but the fear I have is how to stand back on my feet..I loose my balance...please let me know how to overcome that fear...
Hey Justin, your video is awesome, wish you were my teacher 😃. Recently I joined for swimming class and the moment I dip my face in water I get really scared. The silence and darkness under water plus holding breath has to be faced and dealt with so much courage and patience. Help me.
I used to love water so much when I was young and I swam without being taught how to swim but there was a freaking idiot in a competition who pushed me down in water and I almost drowned and from that point when I see pools I have panic attacks but then I trained but it didn't help but at least I wasn't scared of getting in the pool but I was scared of swimming until now but this video helped me now I feel confident. Omg thanks for the love.
Good video! I dont exactly have hydrophobia, but I do have fear of diving. The reason is because 9 times out of 10, i get water going through my nose no matter what I do!
vidfreak727 hey, if you're still having this problem, here's what works for me. Right as your head is about to hit the water, exhale through your nose, but only slightly. Don't do it enough to lose enough air. After your initial momentum is gone, you can stop exhaling, as the movement that gets the water into your nose will be over.
I have a fear of falling. I'm not afraid to get my head under water, it's letting go of the wall when I try to float, or to swim forward and kick. Even using a kickboard. That feeling where I start wobbling and I'm not study triggers a panic response, even though logically I know I'll be okay. How do I overcome this?
I learned how to swim but i m still not confortabile while swimming and i knoe i was swimming and i just stopped idk how and i started panicking and moving my hands and legs everywhere and then i put my legs down...now i am scared cause imagine if the water was over me i would be dead...and that s why i am scared
Hey Justin nice video but I have a question for you. While swimming in shallow water sometime I drift in deep end of the pool and I loose my form and goes into Y axis my question is how to get back into X axis again in the deep end .Help help !!!
i can swim and there isnt any sharks in my country, but whenever i go in the ocean i always get scared when i swim back to the beach that a shark is behind me and gonne kille me XD and i always get rlly anxious when im in the ocean with dark water
I want to learn to swim. My wife refuses to help me as she feels that according to her I panic when I am in the pool. Therefore I should keep away from water and not bother to learn to swim. I don't panic I just want to get fully comfortable in water.
Hey Justin, Me and my Family went to a Resort which has a Pool and near to the Sea Side too, which means i swam in both waters. I noticed how short my breaths were in the water and i struggle putting my head up to breathe while in X Axis. Im going to keep practicing once i inlist in a Swimming club which i hope i have someone to swim with me on Free time. One more thing, after the swimming, i got Sun Burned. Do you reccomend using sun block? I been walking in the heat and only Sea/Pool i got Sun burned. Thank you for your Videos.
Same with the short breath and pulling my head out to breathe in x- axis. After the first exhale I start to panic a bit so can't properly control that..
I alaways cry when i swim IT IS SOOO DEEP i am going the 6th grade :'( i hate swim I CAN'T TOUCH THE BOTTOM OF THE WATER i nearly drowned 6 Times btw I AM ALAWAYS GETTING PANIC WHEN I AM UNDER THE WATER!
My dumbass swimming teacher put his hand on my head and didn’t let me come up for air for like 40 seconds! I was like 8 and I avoided swimming but now I’m 14 and I finally know how to swim. But... I’ve developed a fear of the ocean so I need to figure that out too
Lmao its not the water im afraid of its the filters lights and holes in the water like I memorise were all the filters in a pool so i can avoid them and if i get to close to one i have a breakdown and panic and thats not good
hello i'm a beginner and while holding my hand to support and kicking once i breathe then blow bubbles the when again wen i raise may heaf to breathe i feel tough to breathe and i sink too....
When i put my head in water i automatically start panicking and get out and im done for the day
Aww feel sorry for that , same for me too
Yeah..
Same! I got traumatic experiences
yeah..same.
I HATE drowning it sucks and prevents me from my favourite sport
My teacher did the same. I still have fear of water
Me tooo omg
If my feet don't touch the ground then I'm drowning and that's it

Good video! I dont exactly have hydrophobia, but I do have fear of diving. The reason is because 9 times out of 10, i get water going through my nose no matter what I do!
vidfreak727 well duh in every swimming times water ALWAYS goes up to your nose so be prepared
i already know that.

Thanks...now, what about head position during diving?
tried it and water STILL got in my nose lol. I'm not very good at diving! Lets face it!
every time i get in any type of water even a pool i always feel like there is something in the water with me and i start panicking and rush out
If we come to your swimming teacher (the one who you mentioned in the video) if you do this then you are just increasing the fear of the learner
Learn tips from this video, Thanks Justin. Love this.

Ive been to that pool
I can't paddle
Can't bub for a long time
Mainly my body is not flowing in the water...
Honestly... Fear of the water is just as if fear of your own self.
That does not make any sense at all
Yes because your brain is made of 85% water.
Thank you
Thanks for your tips, Justin. Great l Will do That in the pool.
I have a fear of water but we have swimming class at our school and it’s required so I’m basically screwed

Very helpful video thank you
Thank you this really helps me
haha, i found that pool from the google maps based on the background of the video. lol
cool :)
Can u do a video on how to not get cramps on water
Thanks for the great video and tips.
Only problem is water enters my nose while I dive
Some times
"Just try to die lmao"
You need to breath out your nose when swimming, this keeps the water out
Just practise with your head in the water, I also had a lot of water entering my nose for some time, but after hundreds of attempts it stopped :)
Which goggle is best for adult swimmers, the brand, size, narrow or wide angle goggles?
Hey Justin nice video but I have a question for you. While swimming in shallow water sometime I drift in deep end of the pool and I loose my form and goes into Y axis my question is how to get back into X axis again in the deep end .Help help !!!
