- John Amirante has been a staple at Madison Square Garden for years and here is his most famous rendition of the National Anthem before Game 7 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals. You really can't hear a word out of his mouth for the entire Star Spangled Banner, which should give you chills every time. One of the coolest moments in MSG History.

Love how everyone is coming here to honor John. It was the first video I watched as well when I heard the news. Rest in Peace, Mr. Amirante
Ortmeyer41 a true legend!
Definitely
Best in the business! Perfect way to kick off the 4th of july!
that man set the tone for many wins for this team!
Let’s go rangers let’s go rangers let’s d
Go rangers let’s go rangers
I've talked to someone who worked in MSG at that game, he said the mic volume was up as high as it is for concerts, which is louder than your typical game anthem. They could've blown the speakers out and the crowd would've outdone it.
If this song doesn't give you goosebumps, you don't bleed blue!!!!
I tear up and i was born in 02
Sadly, MSG has priced so many of those AMAZING fans out of the Garden. I would give anything to recapture this incredible energy.
Exactly. That energy can't be duplicated due to pricing out the real die-hard fan. Corporate business and hedge fund guys bought out so many of the seats since.
There is nothing rich in my family, but the luxury we have are Rangers tix. If you want to go you do. Actually you'd be amazed at the prices for tickets to this game. I can't say Id have sold one but i know there had to be people who bought season tix for 3 years by selling this game. This is less about money and more about who goes to games and how easy it is for people to watch the game at home. Trust me it's loud in the playoffs. But you won't get to hear it thi loud until game 7. And even then there will be plenty of people watching on 65 inch 4k tvs with 7.1 surround sound, and 3k in their pocket.
you said it!
tourists now go to these games!
Cell phones have lowered the crowd noise also - everywhere.
In 1994 you went to a game to watch the game and cheer your team. Not to bury your face in your phone and garner facebook likes
What the fuck are you talking about
Maybe the greatest atmosphere of any sporting event ever!! You can hear the fans begging, PLEADING, for a win to break the curse!! I've never seen any sporting event either on TV or in person that has topped the atmosphere in the Garden that night--absolutely incredible!!
maybe lake placid in '80 but that's about it. NY ranger fans are the best of the best.
nyterpfan I remember in game 7 vs Devils, when they tied it with seconds left, all fans were saying if we lost that game we were leaving with our seats, thankfully, we won
Jeff N the Matteau game?
yes, the Matteau game, luckily I was there for EVERY playoff game that year
there were lot of ex-Oilers on that team but also quite a few homegrown Rangers; Leetch & Richter most notably.
R.I.P John Thanks for this memory I will never forget this night . I just wish our country still had this love for our Nation anthem like we did this night !
Well said.
Its even worse now unfortunately 😔
We do still have the love for this anthem. It’s the media who’s pushing the anti-American stance on our country.
He might as well have not been singing because you can't hear anything. This is amazing to watch, I so wish I was there. Goosebumps.
ivan ricov I was one of the 18,000+ in attendance that night, we literally kept getting louder as it went on, trying to drown him out, we did out best, chanting all game, the Garden will never make that kind of noise again.
When you can't hear a single word, but can feel every note
I was at this game, I was 9 years old…I’m 39 now n can’t even comprehend wut I witnessed…wen the rangers won I was lifted in the air n passed around like a beach ball…don’t think I’ll ever be a part of sumthing this wild again 🤯🙌🏿
RIP John. One of the greatest to ever sing the Anthem.
So nuts how loud it was. Would have loved to have been there. Just had my friend's father telling me about his experience at this game...insanity!
My Dad and Cousin were there too. What a night for us. I was 19 and had never experienced the celebration in the streets of my team winning a championship. It was the greatest night of my life. It was so unexpected, I will never forget it.
Let's go rangers babyyyyyy

Always special when John Amirante sang the anthem at MSG. I think I saw his last performance in Feb. during the Ratelle ceremony. A true legend - RIP John.
Nobody can make more noise than a new yorker.
Dan Ski you damn right
Im lucky to be 1 of 22,000 people who experienced this 4-5 minutes that will forever be part of my soul. Make no mistake, it was deafening loud when the clock read 0:00 and we won, but these 4 minutes were a sound you felt.
I was there that night, will never forget how loud it was throughout the game. John was as much of the tradition as anyone. In complete awe as I watch this! RIP John.
No u weren’t
I still get goosebumps. Loudest crowd I can remember. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Mr. Amirante and his wife on the lirr after a game many years ago. He will be missed. RIP
RIP Mr. Amirante :(
moves one to tears
I got goosebumps all over again. Just like I’m back in 94.
I will never forget my father getting his cousins tickets for Game 7 agains the Devils in the Conference Finals one of the greatest games ever. That night was almost as loud during the national anthem but when I saw this on tv at 13 years old I literally was in tears and so pumped. Still one of the greatest nights of my early teen years was celebrating my Blueshirts winning the cup. I just wish they can get one for Hank. Also have John's autograph on a Rangers hat signed that year during the 94 season. Of course my dads cousin would not give up the tickets for this game! But the memories of course as Sam say last a lifetime.
A moment in my life I will never forget. Thanks for the memories....RIP John.
I can't believe there were 4 people who gave this video a thumbs down. Vancouver fans, perhaps because this gives me goosebumps to watch!
My Father and Cousin were at this game. What an amazing night. I have had a really blessed life and have seen, done and achieved some amazing things. However, This night was the number one experience in my life until my Son was born in 2012. I was 19 and had never experienced the celebration in the streets of my team winning a championship. Up until that point It was the greatest night of my life. It was so unexpected, I will never forget it. Forever the best. RIP in peace John.
Rest in Peace Mr. Amirante. Thanks for this memory which will last more than a lifetime!
RIP John Amirante - thank you for the memories over the years at the Garden.
25 years ago today. Thanks OP for this memory. Beyond Messier raising the Cup, this is always what will come to my mind remembering this night. I have still never seen an arena drown out an anthem singer like this since.
One of the most memorable things was that attempt at singing the anthems. NO FAN BASE ANYWHERE COULD EVER TOP THAT!
That's what makes Rangers fans among the most dedicated and faithful in the NHL.
June 14, 1994. One of the happiest days of my entire life. I will never, ever forget the greatness of that experience. Having been a Rangers fan my whole life and waiting for that special night. We all knew it was going to happen, too. We just didn't know how. And yes, I do get chills watching Amirante. Ranger crowds always drowned him out in big games, but NOTHING like that night. He always did the Anthem justice, too. Great singer.
Bad singer that's why they were to loud
Here on June 14, 2021. 27 years later, this still gives me total goosebumps. It was an incredible night. John Amirante will forever be in our hearts
It was a great night to be a Rangers Fan in MSG!!! I was there!!! Nothing will ever top it!!!
Can just imagine the vibe in that building! It was crazy just across the street!!! :-) So glad you got to be a part of Rangers history in person!
Rockey Neff no question about it
Rockey Neff THATS AWSOME
Me too, seeing this again gives me chills! Unreal! It was Deafening!
new york rangers Let go
RIP John! I've watched this video probably about 50 times, and it still gives me chills each time. I hope the Rangers honor him with a banner in the rafters at MSG.
R.I.P John Amirante. Thanks for the memories.
Those were hopes and dreams being poured out
RIP John Amirante!! The National Anthem before big games at MSG won't be the same without you!!
Thank you Mr. Amirante. A legend for our Blueshirts.
I remember that day like it was yesterday, RIP John I really hope I can hear the garden get that loud again but will never get as loud as it was for you in "94" Let's Go Rangers
"OHHHHH CAAAN-A-DA" (Lets Go Rangers!)
RIP John, thank you for all the memories.
Thanks for the memories, RIP
What a legend. Watching the game on MSG right now and had to watch John sing the anthem again. Amazing rendition
Forever, John Amirante. And also forever a part of one of my favorite National Anthem performers. Jim Cornelison and Wayne Messmer for the Chicago Blackhawks (my team), Rene Rancourt for the Boston Bruins, and singers Davis Gaines and Pia Toscano for the Los Angeles Kings.
i was at this game, and this still gives me chills.
Incredible how it just got louder and louder!
Still gives me goose bumps amazing !
My favorite moment of John Amirante. I'm very fortunate that his most famous rendition of the national anthem included my favorite lines of my favorite national anthem:
"With Glowing Hearts, We See Thee Rise
"The True North Strong and Free
"From Far and Wide, O Canada
"We Stand on Guard For Thee"
I plan to play this every year on July 1.
Rip John. They will stand on your shoulders forever.
The single most greatest unforgettable moment not only in NHL history but all of sports history that will last a lifetime like the results of this final game in 1994.
Goosebumps every time. RIP
I witnessed this at a friends house......the feeling was indescribable.
Every time I watch this video I get non-stop goosebumps
17 years ago and it still gives me goosebumps
I was there and it was truly amazing. John could have been singing rock lobster and no one would have known. It was so loud I had a headache from yelling before the puck dropped.
John - you will forever be a Rangers institution. All fans who ever saw you perform the National Anthem will forever love and remember your renditions as the best and most rousing we ever heard. One of the most remarkable voices. Ranger fans everywhere celebrate your memory.
MSG will be even louder for the first game back with fans. Absolutely deafening.
R.I.P. Mr. Amirante. You are and always will be a True Rangers Legend!!!!
That made me cry. Awesome memories! THANKS!!!!
Still gives me chills. I watched it on TV that night at my home in Brooklyn but it felt like I was there. The energy in all 5 boroughs and beyond was electric that night.
I've been waiting forever for this to be on RUclips. Amazing.
Best night of my life! Section 409. Row D. Seat 14.
Thank you NY RANGERS!!!!
This man taught me the national anthems. Thank you John we miss you

RIP John Amirante, the "voice of the NY Rangers". I remember this night like it was yesterday. Next to the day I married my wife, it was the second best day ever - so glad I was there helping to make that ruckus!
Completely drowned out. Place was up for grabs.
This gets me so pumped up
One of the greatest moment of my sports fan life. RIP to the greatest national anthem singer of my lifetime
This will get you jacked up
Goosebumps, every. Single. Time. R.I.P. John Amirante. The 🐐. LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!
Those were the days!
RIP the garden will never be the same
What a night and what a tremendous memory!!!!
tonyt13aa I know one of the best moments of my childhood
this brings back exciting, but painful memories, as a Canucks' fan.... SO CLOSE!!
love the anthem at MSG..... amirante and the organ are a great combo!
It's the earliest memory I have in my life. Going to a Rangers vs. North Stars. I'll never forget his voice. LGR!!!!
I like how you put exclamation points after all your words. It's funny as hell. It cracks me up. And I agree with you. I! CAN'T! HEAR! A! DAMN! THING! It's crazy loud.
RIP, Legend.
We were non stop that night. So many chants we had, but the anthem was memorable, we didn't stop screaming.
Wow. Got goosebumps watching this!!
I was at Game 7 against the Devils, but my cousin went to this one with my dad because his father had recently passed away.
For those who watched the men's ice hockey gold medal game between Canada and the United States at the Salt Lake City Olympics, the CBC broadcast the national anthems. Nearly five million, 4.957 million watched Game 7, the most-watched CBC Sports program until the 10.6 million for Canada winning their first Olympic ice hockey gold medal since 1952.
Seriously gutted by the news. Other than Messier hoisting the Cup, this is my favorite memory of that game. I still have never heard an anthem drowned out like this. Thanks for the 30 years of memories John. I literally grew up having you open up my Ranger games every night and they won't be the same without you.
Is it normal to absolutely fucking start crying every single time the Star Spangled Banner starts when I watch this video? #LGR
Thank you John. R.I.P.
This was my 1st year with season tickets. The building was shaking during the national anthem, you couldn't hear Amirante in the crowd. Was a surreal moment, and game, the We Want the Cup chants were LOUD as well.
Amazes me to think my grandparents, uncle and great grandfather went to this game. Wasn't even born yet but I can't even imagine what this experience must have been like!! I went to game 5 of Rangers Capitals which was the second round this year but that would never beat Game 7 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals
Getting chills listening to it now
I remember this like it was yesterday. You couldn’t even hear him over the crowd. Rip mr Amirante. I know the Canadian national anthem Bc of you
Rest In Peace! ❤️ #RangersForever
RIP John Armirante this one will last forever....
Goosebumps..
there is never gonna be another moment like this ever in all of hockey, not just the rangers....the only other night at the garden i can think of where the energy and the atmosphere were overwhelming like this was messier night and that was just a fraction of this.
One of the greatest moments in history of MSG of not the greatest
RIP!! A true class act!!
RIP John. You were one of a kind
Beloved John Amirante is a LEGEND.
Unreal.
“I have never heard something, quite like that.”
Was there that night and couldn't hear a thing. Still can't hear it watching this video. LOL
as of 2015 this is the longest he's done up to that point. I wish MSG airs game 7 of the finals but we have to deal with NBCSN lol....
