  • Clip from NHL Video's "Road To Victory: The '94 New York Rangers Story" documentary featuring legendary Ranger hero, Stephane Matteau, life-long Ranger fan, Marc Weissman, as well as many others involved in this memorable moment co-commentating on Stephane's epic wraparound goal during 2OT in Game 7 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals against the NJ Devils. Many have called this the greatest series ever played in NHL history as well as the greatest game ever played at Madison Square Garden. And keep in mind this was merely just to get to the Finals, let alone go on to win the Stanley Cup. Enjoy! :)

      Dom no: the Rangers won their third cup in a league with 8 teams (New York Americans and Montreal Maroons) and there first two in a league with 10 teams (Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Quakers). And if you draw back to the Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Scouts, the Devils actually go back a ways.

      devils & islanders are way more accomplished given their much shorter tenure but have no where near the same fan support. a ranger playoff game at MSG is one of the most electrifying experiences i've ever had while a devil playoff game at the old arena (i still call it "the byrne") was about as exciting as going to a wake (although the devil fans are better than the nets' fans used to be in that building). i have not gone to the new arena in Newark but hopefully its an improvement as far as crowd noise and excitement factor is concerned.

    back when hockey fever in NY reached an all time high. At the time of the finals, Viacom owned the garden and it would be the only time in corporate history that their stock price improved based on the revenue from the Rangers despite the Knicks losing the NBA finals to the Rockets as well as Forrest Gump from Paramount. The theater near the garden was named the Paramount Theater at MSG where i saw A Christmas Carol. When Dolan bought part of the team along with ITT, things turned sour.

    This is honestly a time and moment that forever stole my heart ❤️, so amazing and just euphoric. Sports is something that truly humbles and teaches humility. That 1994 New York Rangers Hockey Team beyond Words what a moment in time unforgettable and I always will love The New York Rangers

    My Parents remember this moment so well! My Family and I were in our Car leaving the Mets game listening to this game on the Radio! As soon as Matteau scored here, the entire Shea Stadium Parking lot was honking their horns as we were waiting to leave!

    This goal was the most relevant thing to happen to the Devils franchise ever. They didn't get this much attention after those cups nor did anyone care about the ot goal that send them to the final that was scored by Adam-whats-his-face.

    Who did it better? Rose, Thorne or Rosen?

    • @smoothjazzandmore
      @smoothjazzandmore 3 года назад +3

      Howie Rose, bar none. Right up there with Russ Hoges, "The Giants win the pennant.". Rosen call was good. Thorne almost blew it with ""1940 is history". I'm like, they didn't win it yet! Don't jinx them!

      @smoothjazzandmore2 IKR. They still had to get through John Shorthouse’s Canucks. The latter might’ve had a disappointing regular season, but they still could’ve won.
