Pretty exclusive club. Who else has that distinction? Certainly no one from '94. Alf Pike, Ott Heller, Bill Cook, Murray Murdoch, and Muzz and Lynn Patrick? I think that's it, even the great Frank Boucher started his career with Ottawa.
What an unbelievable highlight reel. I was lucky enough to witness his entire career... The man deserves more than 1 Cup, and every accolade he receives. He epitomizes what it means to be a pro, in every way, even to this day. Legendary work ethic, dedication, ability and heart. A true NYR legend. Thanks for all the memories, Mike!
Imagine if he had the equipment they had nowadays. The league I used to play in, I started was still using my dads pads from the 90s…. And had a 4.6 GAA….they were hurting my knees so I had to buy newer model… all of my equipment weighed the same as one of the old pads. Finished the season with a 1.75
Richter is an immortal legend in the hearts of Rangers fans. He utterly stood on his head in Spring 1997 and powered the NYRs to a pretty good run, especially against the Devils, he was phenomenal.
Some people want to say Lundqvist is the best Rangers goalie ever, but Richter is the one who delivered the cup and that puts him over the top in my book. Greatest Rangers goalie ever.
Wanted to add that his performance in the 1996 World Cup of hockey was one of the best I have ever seen. Especially when you consider the roster Canada put out there.
@@r3dl0g1c Indeed. Nowadays, the equipment is do big that they can take away most of the net even when they're in the butterfly position. Richter never had that advantage and looked so small out there.
Dang man, them 90’s goalies were built different! The athleticism…a whole different level man. They were almost gymnasts. Crazy! That’s what made me play goalie in the 90’s.
Thank you for this video! Brought back so many happy memories of watching every single game with my father. Hes still cursing at the game watching from heaven lol
Great compilation. He was my favorite of all time. It actually makes me tear up remembering all the games I used to watch him play. I would study him and try to play like he did. I was never good enough!
Dude should be in the hall of fame. Sucks for the injury and crappy rangers teams of the late 90s and early 2000s. Flyers should of traded for him after the 1998 season.
Second favorite ranger of all time. Only behind the best captain that’s ever worn the C Mark Messier. As a kid growing up watching his saves was what got me into hockey. And then having had the honor of meeting him multiple times. Fantastic goalie and a fantastic human being.
Grew up watching and learning from the modern era greats starting early 90’s after nearly 30 years I now realise the majority of my play style imitated Mike richter . Must have been a subconscious thing as I always enjoyed watching him play after watching ‘NHL’s masked men ‘ I owe thee a great debt 🫡
I always wanted to be a goaltender because of Richter, and I’m a habs fan who grow up in the 90´s with Patrick Roy. Richter was one of kind goalie, thanks for those highlights!
I'm a longtime Bruins fan but I love Mike Richter his acrobatic style is amazing...todays goaltending might be good down to a science but is boring. I grew up watching the stand up guys that were smaller had to rely on reflex and acrobatics to cover the net...I miss that period.
If his health was never an issue he would have been the best Rangers goalie ever. No one still till this day had the agility, flexibility and the ability to make multiple saves in a row like him!
I was telling my friend who has a man crush on Henrik Lundqvist. Why doesn’t he have one for Mike Richter? (No reply) Keep in mind, we both hate the Rags! But him being in ex-goalie, loves Hank! For as much as absolutely hate & the utter destain I have towards the fucking Rags! I actually do like Mike Richter. He played out of his mind for us in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey! He’s the reason we Americans won! Again: I don’t understand why Henrik Lunquist gets all the love? Mike Richter is the man! It is baffling?
If you watch highlights of goalies during this time; Hasek, Potvin, Hextall, Vanbiesbrouck, Richter, Belfour,...the list goes on and on....who am I missing??? Brodier, Roy. I'm telling you, there just aren't goalies like these anymore. Absolutely 100% you can see some amazing performances. But the late 80s, early/mid 90s was just a ridiculous time for goal tending. Richter was absolutely insane!!!!!
That man is the reason I played goalie and wear number 35. Without a doubt my favorite hockey player of all time
SAME!
I'm about to be 42 this June. I proudly say....same. 💪
I was at the game when Tamer’s shot concussed Richter and ended his career. Terrible night at MSG.
My childhood favorite
Same!
A career Ranger and Stanley Cup Champion, words we don't often hear together....but sound sooooo good. One of the best Rangers player, ever!
Dont forget the World Cup

He was literally like a piece of rubber. By far, the most athletic goalie I have ever seen.

Irbe, Richter, and Hasek by far the most exciting goalies ever to watch play for me.
I miss that period of hockey. The acrobatics made it much more exciting.
Some people want to say Lundqvist is the best Rangers goalie ever, but Richter is the one who delivered the cup and that puts him over the top in my book. Greatest Rangers goalie ever.
I love both. I wish Lundqvist had some of the supporting players Richter did early on in his career.
Wanted to add that his performance in the 1996 World Cup of hockey was one of the best I have ever seen. Especially when you consider the roster Canada put out there.
Richter didn't play with giant profly pads and chest protector. Richter flourished in the era of true reactionary goaltending.
Richter is the best Rangers goalie of all time, Lundqvist is the best NHL goalie of all time I don’t care what anyone says.

Lol my dad is probably watching with him. He broke the TV a few times. Imagine today with the delicate flat screens? 😆
Best Ranger goalie ever and one of the best big game goalies of all time in the NHL.
Great compilation. He was my favorite of all time. It actually makes me tear up remembering all the games I used to watch him play. I would study him and try to play like he did. I was never good enough!
Mike Richter is one of my favorite goalies of all time and he has so many great saves
What a great video- thank you for the memories Mike!
My idol back in the day, he had everything.
Dude should be in the hall of fame. Sucks for the injury and crappy rangers teams of the late 90s and early 2000s. Flyers should of traded for him after the 1998 season.
Now that's the best example I've ever seen of a goalie standing on his head, spinning like a top....UNBELIEVABLE
Richter does not get enough love when people talk about the best goalies of all time.
90's Rangers games and the Garden were special
Second favorite ranger of all time. Only behind the best captain that’s ever worn the C Mark Messier. As a kid growing up watching his saves was what got me into hockey. And then having had the honor of meeting him multiple times. Fantastic goalie and a fantastic human being.
Lots of great memories in these highlights. Richter was just so great to watch.
The goaltenders may change, but the joy of hearing Sam call their saves remains
I wonder if Jonathan Quick mimics his game after Richter. Richter and Hasek were my 2 favorite goalies growing up
Quick has always reminded me of Richter
Both undersized guys by todays standards
@D T Quick has stated that Richter was his idol growing up. So the answer is yes.
I can still hear sam going save by Richter save by Richter and another save 4 saves and than ohhhhhh babyyyyy from j.d
I always said that sequence shouldve at least made it into a video game at least once
Grew up watching and learning from the modern era greats starting early 90’s after nearly 30 years I now realise the majority of my play style imitated Mike richter . Unreal.
Forgot just how good he was. Great video 👍

This man is reason why I love the new york rangers to death
My favorite player of all time.
He was an animal!!! Cat Like!
He was a machine
See you at the party Richter!
LOL, all respect and honor to the immortal #35.
@@Torgo1969 he is probably my favorite goalie ever and I can't ever resist an Arnold Schwarzenegger one liner lol.
Don’t forget the barehand save
First save I think of when I hear his name tbh
If his health was never an issue he would have been the best Rangers goalie ever. No one still till this day had the agility, flexibility and the ability to make multiple saves in a row like him!
He was the best rangers goalie ever. Lundqvist right behind him. Just let them switch pads.
beezer and him were best tandem ever
He was a beast in the world cup

Mike Richter is twice the athlete and had twice the personality of Henrik. He gave NY a cup and owned New Jersey and Henrik could do neither.

I know he wasn't a hasek or potvin, but arturs irbe was my favorite.
Amazing athleticism.
I was short like him in middle school and played goalie
Oh baby!!!
Richter is still the GOAT Rangers goalie.
As an Islander fan I can always sit back and say to myself Richter was the best goalie to ever play the game
0:45
I haven't felt like this since 94. Where are my tissues?
I love shesterkin and lundqvist but richter IS HIM!
I love Henrik (king) but his highlight reel doesn't look like this! Great player
Hero
Shocked he’s not in the HOF yet.
as red wings fan I respect Richter!
Goat Goalie.
Go New York Rangers.
He is the American DOMINIK HASEK.
If Mike Richter played in the 70s .....forget about it.
Gatending was waaaaaay more entertaining back in these days
Before there was an understanding of technique there was the acrobatic goalie.
Yeah, but what's his slapshot like?
say what ppl want about the greats like brodeur and roy and even lundqvist.. there was not a more exciting goaltender to watch than richter
Sorry. He was the American DOMINIK HASEK!!!!
