CHALLENGE!!! Since you insist on doing all these retro nightmares from my past (although siginificantly improved, so thanks for that!) how about you do one of those doll dress cakes? This cake reminds me so much of how those were decorated.
My mom used to do cake decorating when I was a kid, and for my third birthday she made me (at my request) a beautiful 3 tiered wedding cake complete with plastic Doric columns and individually piped roses. AND she made me a commercial airliner pinata. BEST BIRTHDAY EVER. Age three was the best. My mom is amazing.
You described my wedding cake to a tee. 30 years ago my cake was white with blue piping and piped roses 🌹. It had the pillars and the stairs with the plastic bridal party figures. Thank you for helping me remember that. Since my husband passed away there are not too many happy memories but you just gave me a good one. Thank you for sharing and keep on caking 💜
When I was a kid in the 90s seeing those tiered buttercream cakes imprinted that style was the peak of sophistication and class lol they were so cool and I always wanted to have one at my wedding. still love them
I was poor in the 90s and I thought these cakes were only on tv cause no one I knew that got married could afford them. Someone you knew who could bake made a sheet cake and that was good enough.
@@TheCRAZYAunt128 my family was broke - I didn't go to a wedding till I was an adult. But I'd see them on TV or at the grocery store with displays of the book of cakes you could order. The displays were so fancy!
So glad I'm not the only one who likes the look of old style pillar wedding cakes with people on top. And there is a benefit to making vegan cakes, you can like the bowl clean without fear of salmonella.
JJR! Episode idea - do a crazy cool colorful cake for Pride Month! Rainbow flowers everywhere, tiers for various pride flag colors, love is love is love, etc. That would be so fun to watch, and so inspirational! Love, a queer aspiring home bakery business owner and huge fan of your channel!
My memory of wedding cakes from the 1960s and 1970s is that the cakes were made of rich, dense fruit cake. They held the weight of the decorations and never went soggy. The guests were given small pre-wrapped portions of fruit cake with marzipan topping to take home, eating the main cake at the reception, and the couple kept the tiny top layer in a dry, cool place in order to serve it at their 1st anniversary celebration. Well-made fruit cake (especially if "cured" with brandy) easily lasts and is edible for a year or more. Thanks for the time travel! ❤
HUGE flash back to my sisters wedding with that cake drop - we were in the middle of the reception when my dad makes a sprint-dash to catch the cake as it was literally falling. Thankfully he saved it from plummeting to a mushy end. Pity Brandon didn't manage to catch this one.
I loved when the guys did a cake that had a fountain and wedding party on the other show that must not be named!! 🤣❤️ JJR did back stories for the bridesmaids and groomsmen laughed my butt off.
You were not nearly heartbroken or angry enough when that cake went over for that not to have been staged. 😁 And, as far as I know.. you're not down a crew member or on the run from the police, which would have been the inevitable outcome. As a fellow baker/decorator though, staged or not, that was traumatizing!
Didn't see it at first but yeah you definitely made a Disney cake. Maybe they'll buy the design from you to have as an option to sell to Disney wedding fanatics for $10,000.
This was the perfect thing before going to bed, it really let the negative vibes I had all day dissapear. (I'm always struggeling to fall asleep, but it's easier, when I'm in a good mood before going to bed, and you guys always lift me up!😊❤) So thank you, keep doing what you're doing and good night!😁
I have fond memories of going through Wilton cake magazines looking at all of the designs (my mom made wedding cakes out of our kitchen). Why do your cakes sink in the middle? I imagine they’re rich and creamy yummy 🤤
My mum used to make wedding cakes in the 70s and 80s. I remember watching her pipe lace... none of that mould press or embossed rubbish that uses a stencil; proper piped lace on the cake. It was fascinating to watch.
I wish I could have been so entertained in the kitchen. I tried to do nice things with my cakes too, but something never came out that I could be proud of. you can see thousands of hours of work in your work. you are a genius❤
IZ BIG CAKE! I LOVE IT! I miss those elaborate cakes with all the details and stairs and such! They were so fun! P.S. I love the idea of the tattoo cake! You should try making it a flexing arm with a bunch of tats on it.
I made cakes like this back in the ‘70s and ‘80s including my own wedding cake. Way more work than the style of wedding cakes I’m asked to make now. Great to see you create interest for retro cakes!!!!
I also admired the tiered wedding cakes when I was a child in the 90s. I remember our grocery store had giant three tiered cake complete with pillars and all on display in the bakery section. You don’t see that much anymore…
There's nothing more that I love like an old school wedding cake they were absolutely gorgeous the pillars the stairs with the Little couples the champagne fountain in the middle they were just beautiful that's what a wedding cake should be not this crap they put out today you're right jjr they're great. They make the cake plates with the little legs on them that stick down in those pillars they snapped down in them that way they don't move around but you do want to stack that at an event you don't want to do it before I got married back in the early '80s and my cake was a big poofy very feminine white with blue roses it was beautiful and I still love those cakes and I do decorate cakes and I think those are still beautiful
My daughter thinks you should make a rainbow cake with a pink unicorn on top with a mermaid standing on the unicorns head and whatever candies you want! (She suggests candies stars & pearls and fruits and maybe flowers)
Not nearly as many layers… but for my grandparents 50th anniversary I tried copying their original wedding cake from the 1952. Was fun making it all “extra”. LOL
As I was watching this video I was also hearing a truck back up in my neighborhood. It kind of freaked me out it was happening to both of us! It was in stereo! 😂
It would be so cool if you could collaborate with Dylan Hollis! You could teach him retro piping etc. And he could guide you through a depression era recipe of ridiculousness! Would be epic
This is the only video out of hundreds where the star complained about background noise through the wall, and I could actually hear it. That must be driving you bonkers... well, more bonkers.
All the wedding cakes I’ve ever tasted were made of white batter, white frosting, etc but for some reason they tasted different from a regular homemade white cake. Maybe more vanilly? What is it about a wedding cake that makes it taste different? (And no, it’s not all in my mind. It’s in my taste buds)

That’s coming soon!!
JJR pick a year from the 1970s. Brandon pick a number between 1-150. Make the cake on that page number of that year's Wilton yearbook.

That yellow is such a seventies yellow! It looks like it’s out of my old Wilton cake book!
My mom used to get the Wilton catalog and I would sit and go through it planning my wedding, I loved those cakes when I was little.

I too love these beautiful cakes, I've always said this style would be my wedding cake with 10 tiers and 3 fountains. Yeah, I'm a bit extra!
So glad I'm not the only one who likes the look of old style pillar wedding cakes with people on top. And there is a benefit to making vegan cakes, you can like the bowl clean without fear of salmonella.
LmFao 🤣🤣 Never got salmonella from cake batter or anything else with eggs, and I do that all the time!! 🤣🤣
@@MsTwilightgirl94 good for you! You can definitely get sick from eating raw eggs, it's common sense. So keep gambling!

YAAAAASSSSS THIIIISSSSS!!!!!! Please please please! With rainbow cake layers!
Yes!! Could easily combine a retro doll cake (suggested below) with a pride cake for pride month, too :)

brandon causing the cake to fall is his and jjrs divorce arc
Bro weddings cakes of Disney princesses and their Beaus. A series that would give lots of content (but awesome content so it's a win win!)
I absolutely love retro so I absolutely love this cake! I agree, it does have a Beauty and the Beast vibe. Awesome job!
I loved when the guys did a cake that had a fountain and wedding party on the other show that must not be named!! 🤣❤️ JJR did back stories for the bridesmaids and groomsmen laughed my butt off.
Oh that’s right, I gave them all names. Lol
My daughter just handed me Lego Belle..Yes you're spot on..matches her dress perfectly!

That yellow! It reminds me of 70s bridesmaid dresses! With floppy wide brimmed hats! Vegas showgirl bridal viels!
I'm sorry, but the cake falling was pretty funny 😂
Didn't see it at first but yeah you definitely made a Disney cake. Maybe they'll buy the design from you to have as an option to sell to Disney wedding fanatics for $10,000.
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! OMGAGA!! I am SOOOOOO happy you are back!! Fills my life with so much JOY!!
I love that as soon as the cake falls he hurries to leave with that "he's gonna kill me look"

Yes, I remember these! I had one September 1989. It was beautiful.
Awesome!!!!! Finally phew after along time....so glad to hv jjr back with the team!! Can't wait for more ..going to give this a shot this week....
Thank you. I definitely feel the 1970's vibe.
Yellows & mint (light grass) greens were BIG at the time.
Keep creating food art, please.

They were taken out of the oven a little too early!

My heart stopped during that intro 🤣 I know y’all staged it but having a cake collapse like that was always my worst fear!
looks like those cakes at Giant
My wedding cake was yellow! In 1979! 🤣🤣🤣
That cake drop broke my heart. BRANDON!! You are a bad boy.
Gosh I love JJR! Hehe ❤
I did one similar in white with tiny violet rosebuds. So pretty. In ‘92. 4’ tall, pillars etc.
I love it! Nope this sort of piping comes back. Modern wedding cakes lack use of talent! I love the yellow!
I’m so glad y’all are back!! My favorite nighttime ritual is watching your channel. ❤️❤️❤️
Most underrated show on RUclips!
Omy gasshhh I've looking for you for 2 yrs now since u left the previous channel, this is the happiest day of my 2022!!🤩💓
yes, the yellow was really popular and Gunne Sax wedding dresses!

Nice to see you all back.
So...like...no commentary on what happened with the cake crashing?! 😆
I was born in 1980. This looks like all the late 60s, early 70s wedding albums I had to look at.
i am so excited i am going to be more zen after these videos
My daughter thinks you should make a rainbow cake with a pink unicorn on top with a mermaid standing on the unicorns head and whatever candies you want! (She suggests candies stars & pearls and fruits and maybe flowers)
Leaning tower of cake finally fell 😆 super epic cake with a super epic fall
Why do I love this cake?! But in a sickly 70s/80s pink color for my future bridal shower.
Ick! Thanks for reminding me of my childhood (80s baby/90s child)
I kinda love it and want to frost a cake yellow now
FINALLY YOU GUYS ARE BACK !!!
GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK. Missed ALL your Pretty Faces.
Omg I gasped out loud when that cake fell! Noooo! 🤣😭
Your gifted with cakes bro.
I just want to figure out out to make those chewy cookies they used to make at Becker’s back in the day. Heaven.
I would love to see you make a Sicilian torta settevelli, my favorite cake. :)
Hand piping is still the coolest
JJR: "I wanted it to be tacky and it's beautiful!" ... Yup!! 🍋 🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋
LOVE IT

Call me old fashion, but I think this cake is beautiful. Nice job JJR!! 👏 ❤️
Definitely Beauty and the Beast vibes!!!
Love it!! Thank you again for sharing :) will try this soon… subscribed to your channel :) ☺️
ohhhh yess i love you guys
HELLLLLOOOOOOOO!!!!!💜💙 Your videos are hilarious and awesome!
I ❤️ this 🎂
Omg i jumped/gasped so bad in the beginning wanting to help catch it 😂 ✨the anxiety✨
Whatever happened to the hard sugar roses from the 90s? I loved those as a kid.🌹
OMG,!!! I missed you all so much!!!🥰🫶🏼🤟🏼
Great job!
Oh my goodness! I was married in 1991 and I had a fountain on my cake!
What gold paint did you use to paint the pillars? Please!
As I was watching this video I was also hearing a truck back up in my neighborhood. It kind of freaked me out it was happening to both of us! It was in stereo! 😂
If you’ve moved to Colorado, does this mean you’re now going to do a baked cake “baked” 🤔 😂 just do it!
Beautiful dear
I so wish I could try one of your cakes 🎂
we need moreeee JJR
Makes me sad I see people talk about missing MAC and dont know this is available :(
It would be so cool if you could collaborate with Dylan Hollis! You could teach him retro piping etc. And he could guide you through a depression era recipe of ridiculousness! Would be epic
Hi! My 6-year-old daughter superfan Megan wants to know why the logo cupcake is a skeleton - “couldn’t you just do a normal cupcake?”
I'm thinking that at least part of the reason is Halloween being such a special time for the show.
This is the only video out of hundreds where the star complained about background noise through the wall, and I could actually hear it. That must be driving you bonkers... well, more bonkers.
Maybe try a retro cake with a tv show theme like threes company or all in the family. Something funny like that.👍😁
❤these videos
OMG flashbacks to my oldest sisters wedding-I was 7...

What is it about a wedding cake that makes it taste different? (And no, it’s not all in my mind. It’s in my taste buds)
Yeah, I would run away too😉Great looking cake though🥰... was
what a cake!
That opening was just cruel and unusual punishment for your viewers! 😂
I love it! But, I was married in 1971 so I was into that style.
I’d still eat the cake 😋😂 I’m sure it was delicious! ❤️
That was a beautiful cake avalanche! Also, I didn't realize that all of your cakes are vegan. Clearly my vegan senses need a fine tuning.
Brandon acted like naughty elf 😁😁
Ruffles ftw!!!!!!
Where the links???
Coming soon!!
Definitely a bridesmaid dress from 1977.
Question... so does anyone see the link for the modeling chocolate roses?
JJR Coming Out Pride Cake
Married by an Elvis impersonator at Graceland is a requirement for use of this wedding cake.
