I am an old goth, and a friend back in the 90s baked a coffin cake with black icing for someone's birthday. She used all she had - lots of food colouring. All our mouths were black and it tasted so gross! (the icing, the cake was nice). I love that there's a way to do this in a way that isn't gross!

you're right. Gothic buildings have high arches and all those scary gargoyles 🤓 but that would be also a very cool cake for Halloween 😍
It's a baroque cake 🤓 but very beautiful anyway. But with all that dark chocolate I feel like this cake needs a red wine flavour. Either to moist the cake or a red wine mousse inside. That would be soooo delicious. Greetings from Germany

I love your cakes. Every week, my early Saturday morning is spent with my Watch Later list, built through the week, and you are a must-have part of it. I have saved several recipes and wish listed many of your tools. (I don't have the money or the space for them all lol) I can't wait to try the ginger one. I'm gluten free and I have found the reverse creaming method works best for the butter cakes. I'm hoping I can get good crumb with converting your recipes.

heres a baking tip: If you ever roll out black fondant, use coco powerder instead of flour so you won't get those white marks on the fondant.
It comes off tho and i wouldn't want cocoa powder all over my fondant

i had a gothic wedding cake. i was told the day before my wedding that i should change the colors of my cake because it would look tacky if they messed up. i flipped out but thankfully my cake turned out gorgeous. that was 7 years ago. this is lovely and makes me want to redo my whole wedding for our vow renewal next year.

I'm extremely late to this party, but it's fascinating to see that the gum paste techniques essentially haven't changed from Victorian times. The moulds might be silicone and not wood, but the technique is essentially the same. Ivan Day would be proud.

You can't see it really well on the video because of the lighting but the paper gave the bottom a crackle texture effect. So it looks cracked like stome. He just did it for the texture
