Yeah, I agree, it’s too over the top to be a royal cake, british royalty since the 1900’s went more understated (there are exceptions) But yeah this is more garish for Middle Eastern or American weddings (probably tastes nice though)
It would be so cool if you and Yolanda Gamp (from How to Cake It) did one of those old school RUclips collabs where you picked a theme and made a cake based on the theme. Since you guys have pretty different styles when approaching baking it could be pretty sweet! (Pun fully intended.)
Most extremely lavish cakes you see have false or artificial elements like foam or scaffolding. Its part of the illusion and sometimes necessary to fulfill a bride's (and groom's) vision. I've made cakes for intimate 100 head weddings where the bride insisted on an impactful cake. If the entire thing was made of cake, it would have served three times that much and so much would have gone to waste. With foam, you can have impact, with minimal weight or waste. Best of both worlds.
PatisserieBoy yes, but I had to cut and serve one of these cakes. It was years before the internet, and so I went to the library to see how they were created and so how to cut and serve a tiered wedding cake. I had no idea there were parts not made of cake, but of Styrofoam and dowels and had to be cut around those so it wouldn't collapse. As it turned out, the baker used both Styrofoam, dowels, and cardboard! It was a beautiful cake, but work to cut and I was glad I researched it.

I've never seen someone pass cake filling through a sieve before. Is it just for the almond chunks? Because if it was, wouldn't it have been easier to just run the almond paste through the sieve before adding it?

I think that a really interesting idea for a cake would be a dress cake (quite literally a cake, but carved and covered in fondant to make it look like a dress, preferably lifesized, or close to it). I would never even dream about doing that (I can't bake a cake to save my life), but I'm sure that Man About Cake can pull it off.

I know it was a few months ago, but fun fact: my sister got married the same day as the royal wedding so we decorated our whole house in British flags and had British props to take pictures with and it was so much fun

I always like the drape-y look before you tighten the fondant around the cake. Especially here it could have been used like a Cape or Drapery. can you do one that mimics fabrics and flows?
I know this is probably a stupid question but why do you have to do a final coat of buttercream when you are going to add fondant .can the fondant not just stick to the crumb coat?
Eiffel Tower you could. Most usually cover it after the first initial crumbcoat. But it never hurts to add another thin layer to get those straight sides.
Because fondant is gross and people end up peeling it off when they eat it, so you want to make sure there's enough frosting leftover. Also to ensure smooth sides.

I was confused when he said there was a American one without all the yucky stuff because the one with all the candied fruits, rum and stuff is all I've ever known from years past. And he's right these things used to last for YEARS being past around as horrible Christmas gifts few liked. Thank God those things are a thing of the past. I haven't seen a fruit cake in at least 30 years. I may one day try one the version he just made wherever it comes from, but it's definitely not the original ones from time past.

I was confused when he said there was a American one without all the yucky stuff because the one with all the candied fruits, rum and stuff is all I've ever known from years past. And he's right these things used to last for YEARS being past around as horrible Christmas gifts few liked.
Thank God those things are a thing of the past. I haven't seen a fruit cake in at least 30 years. I may one day try one the version he just made wherever it comes from, but it's definitely not the original ones from time past.
