Digging is certainly hard work: rocks making it more than doubly so. (And it certainly looks like Vermont is contending with New Hampshire over who is _really_ the Granite State). Happy to see your progress on this, and the step by step attention to detail. Every time y'all need to run or update a service line, and there's already a conduit in place, this hard work will be paid back, with interest! Now's the time to put in "too much" conduit, just in case. :)

    I’m impressed with your work!
    1. What is the purpose of placing the three colored plastic ribbons over the foam board before burying?
    2. Where’s Matt?

The ribbons are called detectable tape. They’re made of metallic foil so they can be detected by a metal detector or similar device to help locate utilities in future. They’re also brightly colored so that when you are digging, if you see the tape appear, you know to proceed with caution as there’s a utility line of some form underneath. The color indicates the type of utility: orange for fiber (communications), red for electric, green for sewer. We had all three in this trench.
I (Matt) was busy elsewhere that week but Diana did a great job without me!
