  • Quick rundown on the Australian made Taipan X .223 Pump action / Straight pull.
    This model has a few upgrades over its predecessor, the Taipan Lite.
    In this video I go over the new modifications and then send some rounds downrange.
    Range testing yielded 1/2" groups at 50m and sub moa at 100m. Quite impressive out of the 16.5" barrel. I was shooting 55gr SBK Adi World class factory ammunition.
    Overall this rifle will come into its own in scenarios where quick follow up shots are required on multiple targets such as mobs of pigs. The Taipan X is well balanced even with a suppressor hanging off the end of it. N.B ( I am licensed for suppressor use in NSW for all my contract work)
    Features:
    * Nice and compact rifle sporting a 16.5" threaded barrel
    * Overall weight of 2.9kg
    * 1 in 8 twist rate allowing the shooter to run heavier projectiles
    * Comes with 2 x 10 round magazines
    * Spring assisted pump action
    * Case deflector
    * Removable straight pull bolt handle
    Manufactured in Australia by Southern Cross Small Arms
    Any questions, shoot me a message or comment and I'll do my best to help you out.

    Nice rifle mate. Lovely smooth action. Here in the UK we can't have semi auto or Pump action centre fire rifles . We're only allowed "standard" bolt action or straight pull. Love watching how you Aussies go about pest control. Looking forward to more great content in 2024.

      Should be pretty easy to eliminate the pump action and just have the straight pull. Looks like a fairly standard AR forend under the pump mechanism.

    That's really nice. I can see something like that gaining traction among the ar15 hunters in the states in areas that are clamping down on semi-autos.

    Good intro to the new rifle mate.
    Have you considered adjusting the cheek riser up so you can get a proper cheek weld and a bit more stability?
    I found it made the Taipan much nicer to get and maintain a sight picture.

      G’day mate, best of the season to you and yours.
      It’s not an answer to bulk feral control buts it’s better than a lot of what’s been available previously for the price point.
      Positive - Fit and finish are good. Cycles with no issues, 1:8 twist good for 65 gr Gamekings, price point (although you could spend another 1k pretty easy making it more shootable.
      Suggestions for future iterations: It needs a bolt catch like an AR or OP SP etc that locks the bolt back on the last round, using the mag follower only wears them and forces you to manually lock back the bolt so as to release the pressure off the follower and stop the bolt going forward into battery when you “drop” the mag, the mag won’t “drop” on its own without the pressure being removed from the bolt sitting on the back of the follower. This slows down mag changes considerably.
      Pin the rear stock as the machining tolerances are large enough that it moves when tight.
      The trigger, it’s just bloody terrible.
      Whinge: The OEM barrel break procedure is about the worst I’ve ever come across, it’s painful for a rifle with limited access through the action. Trigger feels like undoing a tight nut with a loose spanner, it’s so heavy it has no feel. I have a 2stage VP ordered which will bring it down to 2lb.
      The Eureka Gun Company “Stockade” looks promising from an efficiency perspective……..
